Loved it. I am deeply invested and I might turn a wall of my house into a murder board. Waverly would understand.

I have no idea if my review would've been different if I read this when I first bought it when it came out, but honestly? As a Canadian, I'm so sick of American politics and, while this tries not to be about American politics Trump Eras Tour 1, that' ...more

This was a fantastic read, despite being a difficult subject. I know this book was published in 2022 (so probably written in the 2018-2021 range), but reading it in March 2025 was surreal.

I highly recommend it.

Looking at the reviews and my own reading experience, I think it might be normal to hit the 40% mark of this book and think there's no point in even trying. In many ways, that 40% mark existential crisis that you develop can be seen in a lot of puris ...more

2025 re-read: my opinion hasn't changed. I do like Topari more now, though, and that he's presented in a different light being at home and with his own clan.

A cozy book that's perfect for cold, short days.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book about a woman in her 60s, going through marital and financial hardship, and landing on her feet. I remember years ago on Twitter a joke between a number of people about ma

Quotes by Krista D. Ball  (?)
Quotes are added by the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ community and are not verified by Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.

“Never let the details take over the story; let the story dictate what details to use.”
Krista D. Ball, What Kings Ate and Wizards Drank

“We don’t need to justify disability, gender, people of colour, and varied sexual orientations and identities. People just exist in real life. They don’t need to be explained or justified. Likewise, people do not need to be justified in books. They just exist. If we can even get used to the background, minor people to reflect reality, that would be an improvement towards changing the Strong Female Character into a strong character who happens to be female this time around.”
Krista D. Ball, Appropriately Aggressive: Essays About Books, Corgis, and Feminism

“When a thundering horde of drunken Vikings rush a person, it's only natural to flinch.”
Krista D. Ball, Spirits Rising
