It’s part of the process and while it can feel like staring at a brick wall waiting for it to become a window, sometimes the best ideas come after stepping away for a bit.

Over the years, I’ve learned that the best ways for me to tackle it is not to force creativity but to create space for thoughts to reemerge naturally. Here are some of my go-to strategies:

Change the Scene: A walk by the lake is my reset button. There's something about the sound of water and the rhythm of walking that clears mental clutter and often leads to unexpected ideas.

Play to Getaway: Sometimes, I’ll dive into a video game to completely get my mind off the topic. Immersing myself in a different world can shake up my perspective and, surprisingly, spark new angles for my writing.

Free-Write: Other times, I'll open a blank document or grab a notebook and write anything that comes to mind, even if it’s nonsense. This helps bypass the pressure of 'writing well' and often leads to breakthroughs.

Rest and Recharge: Sometimes, the block is just a sign I need a break. A good night's sleep, a quick nap, or even some mindfulness exercises can work wonders.(less)

Writing feels like having a passport to explore anywhere: past, present, future, or even realms that exist only in imagination. It’s a way to connect with others by putting words to feelings or experiences they couldn’t quite articulate themselves. It’s also the thrill of discovery. Writing isn’t just about sharing what you already know; it’s about uncovering new perspectives, insights, or ideas along the way as characters and themes come to life.

One of the most rewarding parts, though, is hearing from readers. Knowing that something I wrote resonated with someone, made them think differently, or simply entertained them for a moment is a profound and humbling joy. Writing allows you to leave a small but meaningful mark on the world, and that’s an incredible feeling.(less)
