My Novel Does a Better Job Capturing Our Time Than the A24 Civil War Movie But Then Again, I Know My Country
The participants in this focus group conducted by Jordan Klepper totally reflect how most people feel about Florida:

This is the transcript for the Fantasy Draft section of the video.
But if America was going to be divided in a civil war, where would the modern day Mason Dixon line fall?
It was time for a state by state fantasy draft.
Well, nightmare draft.
We’ve terraformed the states that have been red and blue to kind of create one land mass.
Who sees themself as conservative, part of the red map here?
Are these the states you would want?
- Oh, I much prefer the red states.
- What breaks your heart? What are you gonna miss?
- Well, Arizona, isn’t that supposed to be a red state though?
- Yeah, let’s say we give you Arizona.
Where do you wanna travel to?
- Well, I love California, but it’s turned into such a shit hole.
- Let’s be fair, as a red state guy, the blue states have the best food.
- Oh yeah.
- Right? Bro, what would you miss?
- Not a ton.
- As a liberal, you’re feeling pretty good about the states you get?
- Honestly, I feel all right. We got Hawaii.
- You do have Hawaii.
James, what are you missing?
You’re gonna be in this red conglomerate, right?
- The family’s from back east in Ohio.
So, yeah, I mean, that would be --
- You’d miss Ohio?
- I wouldn’t trade Cleveland for anything.
- I’d trade Texas for California, so I can go to San Diego.
- Okay. Any other trades? Texas for California.
Blue side, would you allow that trade?
- I’ll take Austin for Cleveland, but I don’t need all of Texas.
- We’ll do an Austin for Cleveland.
- I don’t want Cleveland. He’s in Cleveland.
I want San Diego.
- What will you give up for San Diego?
- I would give up Florida.
 No thanks.
- There’s no takers on Florida?
- No.
- Okay.

I’m not surprised to see a movie about civil war in Americaâ€ that’s the theme ofÌý, after all.ÌýHowever, I am surprised to see a movie about America’s second Civil War that completely avoids our politics.ÌýWe are facing the prospect of enduring a January 6 in every state capitol in the country.ÌýHundreds, if not thousands, of people might die in a period of time that’s short even by US standards. This isn’t about the fact that the director is British. I’m just wondering why he made the movie.

Libraries: The Best Source for Free Audiobooks
A couple of hours before turning in for bed, I open a bottle of wine and listen to a few chapters of an audiobbok. I have an account, and I agreed to the 90 trial of , but increasingly, I'm listening to more and more audiobooks through my local library.Ìý
Last night I started listening to Gun Street Girl, written by Adrian McKinty and performed by Gerard Doyle. The book is available on Audible for $14.95 (or 1 Credit, of course), but it's also available on Hoopla and can be "recommended" to your library as a title to add to their OverDrive managed catalog.
I suspect most people reading this post will have no problem with the idea of accessing content for free through your library. But for the rare soul among you concerned for the financial well being of the artists who have made this content available to the world, rest assured, borrowing content from the library is probably a far better way to support those artists, since:
Libraries that purchase books pay a higher royalty than you do, individually, andÌý suggest that Libraries remain major access channels and important drivers of audiobook discovery. 27% of people said borrowing from a library/library website was very important for discovering new audiobooks. rSo the book you suggest to your library by clicking the RECOMMEND button that appears under the title in the OverDrive app, or the one you rate in hoopla, may be discovered by someone who otherwise may never have heard of it.Ìý
1 More evidence of point 2 can be seen in the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ poll started by Otis Chandler in 2012.
Finally, audiobooks from the library has become an extremely simple process. The more I do it, the easier it is.Ìý
I found Gun Street Girl on the 2016 list of finalists for the award in Mystery. Listening to the sample, admittedly, is easier on website, but the book was available immediately on , since my library had not reached its daily limit for borrows. And even if the library had reached its limit on hoopla, I could have recommended the book to be added to my library's catalog through the app, in which case it would likely have been available to me sometime between ten days and two weeks. Planning & Executing An IAMA - The Steve Downes Example
To help spread the word aboutÌý serial, Steve Downes sat down today for an IAMA on Reddit.Ìý
If you're thinking about doing an IAMA, here's what I recommend.Ìý
Ask to be added to the IAMA Calendar. The is located on the subreddit on the right side of the page under the words Please check out our Rules and FAQs. This should be done at least two or three days in advance.Post announcements on all subreddits relevant to your IAMA. In our case that includedÌýÌýsince Steve is the voice of Master Chief,ÌýÌýandÌýÌýsince Steve performed the voice over for the character Victor Daco in Episode 4 of , and Ìýconsidering his many years as DJ on the radio show The Drive.Make sure to respond to comments and replies to your posts. My Reddit account was not set up to forward comments to my email address when I posted the announcements, so I didn't see the comments that were made regarding the announcements until the following day. I'm glad I decided to check those posts the next day, but I could have replied to those comments in a more timely manner.ÌýAbout 15 to 30 minutes before your IAMA is scheduled to begin, your request to the IAMA subreddit. If you're like me, you're thinking it can't possibly be that simple, that easy? Well, it was for me. Their makes it clear that even spur of the moment AMAs are welcome, which suggests the process is easy by design. Ìý
fromAll of the questions were great. Steve, Adrianne, and I had a great time, and I feel like I learned a lot about the Halo community. There was a lot of positive energy during that hour. ÌýÌý

Full Cast Audio Books - Are they Finally Ascendant?
is the best Audiobook in America. We've got the creme de la creme of Chicago's acting community, including: Adrianne Cury, Amro Salama, Amy Montgomery, Antonio Castillo, Cameron Knight, Deb Doetzer, Fawzia Mirza, Jeff Cummings, Jennie Moreau, Juan Francisco Villa, Karin Anglin, Kevin Theis, Rebecca Cox, Scott Duff, Steve Downes, Tony Dobrowolski.Ìý
If you're familiar with the work of any of these artists you know how true this statement is. This cast is awesome. Up until now, though, we've not only been the best full cast audiobboks in America, we've also been one of the few full cast audiobooks in America. It seems, however, we are no longer one of the few.
I just published the 4 Book Series on Audible, and as part of my usual metadata change requests to ACX, I noticed that having full cast in the "Narrated by" field has put us in interesting company on the Audible platform.Ìý
Clicking on that link, the first thing that stood out for me was the updated audiobook version of one of my favorite novels: . I'm a big fan of Clair Danes', but I'm eager to hear the impact expanding the cast will have on the listening experience.Ìý
And then there's the full cast presentation of . This book, along with The Notes From Underground, helped me see the power of storytelling. Ìý
I'm hoping others in the U.S. have come to appreciate the beauty and strength of individual performances, especially when those performances are supported by sophisticated audio design.Ìý

Author's Republic Helped Blur The Lines Between Publishing An Audiobook and Publishing A Podcast
I had originally planned to publish my serial as a podcast, but theÌý campaign failed, and in 2015 ACX seemed like the only viable way to publish .Ìý
Audiobooks published through ACX are only available for purchase on , and . That is not the case with Author's Republic. In addition to buying copies of each episode of The American Fathers onÌý, , ,Ìý,Ìý, andÌý, audiobook fans can borrow the books from their local libraries throughÌýAxis 360,Ìý, andÌý.
Experiencing on Hoopla is very similar to subscribing to a podcast, since Hoopla makes its entire catalog available to the libraries that subscribe to its service. If your library has a Hoopla subscription, all you need to hear The American Fathers is a valid library card.
is almost as easy. If an episode is not part of your local library's catalog, you can make a request to have it added by hitting the recommend button next to the book's title. Listeners need only to log onto the site through their local library's account. The only requirement is a valid library card.Ìý
You will have to ask a librarian at you local library about the process for requesting that an audiobook be added to the Ìý library's Axis 360 catalog. That process varies from library to library.Ìý
If you have a personal subscription with ,Ìý, , or you can also hear The American Fathers.Ìý
It's as if I've come full circle to the original way I wanted to make the serial available to the public.Ìý
