I thought it was really great Terry. Highly recommend it :)

97237 On an autumn day in 1686, eighteen-year-old Nella Oortman knocks at the door of a grand house in the wealthiest quarter of Amsterdam. She has come from the country to begin a new life as the wife of illustrious merchant trader Johannes Brandt, but instead she is met by his sharp-tongued sister, Marin. Only later does Johannes appear and present her with an extraordinary wedding gift: a cabinet-sized replica of their home. It is to be furnished by an elusive miniaturist, whose tiny creations mirror their real-life counterparts in unexpected ways . . .

Nella is at first mystified by the closed world of the Brandt household, but as she uncovers its secrets she realizes the escalating dangers that await them all. Does the miniaturist hold their fate in her hands? And will she be the key to their salvation or the architect of their downfall?

Beautiful, intoxicating and filled with heart-pounding suspense, The Miniaturist is a magnificent story of love and obsession, betrayal and retribution, appearance and truth

97237 Hi all :) We need suggestions for new group reads to kick start us up and running again!! I am currently reading The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro (i think it's genius)
I still have an obsession with anything WW1 or WW 2 related so anything on this theme i would love. I recently read The Aftermath by Rhidian Brook which was really good. The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
I have Night Train to Lisbon by Pascal Mercier to start which loiks intriging and if anyone hasn't yet read The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins then it's a must read..great thriller!

97237 I have been studying some historic speeches recently for a course I am doing in American Modern History and it has got me interested in the power of a really great speech!
Would love it for people to share some that they find uplifting/inspiring or just historically interesting.

I will kick it off with Bobby Kennedy

I think this is such a great speech because it was put together so quickly yet says so much.

97237 Hi Terry. Definately the best YA book i have read for ages. I don't even know why it is classed as YA because that often puts people off. Certainly many YA books are dumbed down rubbish but there are many shining stars and this for me was one of those.
