What if you come up with a great first chapter and write it down immediately but no idea of a plot? Or have a plot and the whole thing written in your head but don't know to write it down chapter by chapter?

I usually need an idea for the ending. That's key. I had it with TALENTS (the nod to A. Conan Doyle) and TROPHIES, too... I knew where I wanted to end up, and the the rest was just back stepping to there.
Same with Creatures of Appetite. I actually started with the ending.
