Peter Tetteroo asked Jamie Malanowski:

Hi Jamie, Thanks for the story beyond 1976. Its all clear to me except two things. Robbie bought the publishing rights of all Bands songs. Later on Levon is not content with this. 1.Why did the other guys sold those rights, they didn't have to 2. Why did Robertson bought those rights, he didn't have to. Whats your opinion on that?

Jamie Malanowski No one has ever spoken about this matter to me in person. All I can do is repeat what I read elsewhere, and what I infer. One is answer is that in the early seventies, it wasn't clear to a lot of performers how much songwriting credits could be worth, so perhaps they undervalued their long term value, and settled for cash. The other answer is drugs. Some of the fellows made poor decisions that affected their bottom line. It seems Robbie eluded that.
