I am sad about Parks & Rec and Mad Men - also sad about Parenthood and Justified ending.

I agree with this, and you know what makes it even sadder? When you see one of the actors of the show on a new show. Just a smack in the face like, "Yep. It's over."

Yes Tommy! Seeing Kyle Chandler on a new show makes me miss Friday Night Lights even more :)

Jaimie (jaimier) | 123 comments Speaking of shows cancelled, Heidi did you ever watch the Veronica Mars movie?

Oh and I'm sad about Parks and Rec and Justified too. Even though I watch Glee I'm not sad about it ending, I think it is time.

I dident like the Veronica mars that Movie, but I enjoed it. And the books are great.

I really liked the first book Oda (especially since Kristen narrated it) - I need to get to the second one but since Kristen doesn't narrate it I will be reading it in print so will take me awhile to get to.

p.s. I should NOT have read the book before I saw the movie. It was not a good idea.

I hate when tv shows have really bad endings! I hated the ending of Gilmore Girls. just saying...

Bluemoon wrote: "I hate when tv shows have really bad endings! I hated the ending of Gilmore Girls. just saying..."

I dont get that. People saying Gilmore Girls had a bad ending, yes the last Seasons werent ideal but the last episode was a great finale. In my opnion at least. Yes it would have been nice seeing luke and lorelai engaged again but still.

message 465: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Yeah. I wish Parenthood would have just ending without the future montage thing. I was not super in love with the GG ending but didn't hate it. It is hard to make everyone happy I guess. I can't think of a show ending that I was 100% satisfied with off the top of my head. Maybe Sopranos?

message 466: by [deleted user] (new)

Most of the time I dislike finales first time watching them but when I watch them a second time I like them more. I enjoyed the coupling finale much more the second time I saw it.

message 467: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
That is probably a good idea Oda (watch them again). I did really like the Gavin & Stacey finale. I can't think of a lot of others I loved though off the top of my head.

I hated the ending of GG. It would have been good to see a nice relationship that actually lasted in that show.

I did enjoy Friends last episode. That I think is my most favorite.

I didn't really hate the end of Gilmore Girls, but I just didn't like the last few seasons in general. It went downhill after season 4 or so.

message 470: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Oh yes Friends finale did come to my mind too - it was defiantly one of the better ones.

oh gosh, I didn't even watch the HIMYM finale but just hearing about it made me furious. So I'm just going to imagine it didn't happen, lol. :P I stopped watching after like season 7 or something.

I stopped around season 5 so I guess it was a good thing!

I just watched couple of shows, but when I heard its the finale, I wanted to watch it. It was the worst!

message 477: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Things that do not rock: When there aren't enough hours in a day for everything you want to accomplish.

Like today, for example. I'm at work for a few hours, then at the library for a few hours, then home for dinner, at the theatre for a few hours, and then bed. Not enough time for reading or cleaning the new house.

It also irks me because I'm reading multiple books at the moment and I'm still falling behind on my GR challenge :P

message 478: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
Oooo new house Ashley!! Congrats. I gave up on my reading challenge for this year Ashley. I have sucked at reading this year but I decided that some reading is better than no reading. More than half the people I work with never read - ever - so I am ahead of them! hahaha

message 479: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Absolutely! I'm contemplating knocking my challenge down to 100 -- 120 may have been a tad too ambitious lol

message 480: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I already changed my total 2-3 times Ashley. I gave up! For example it has taken me an entire week and then some to read 100 pages in Nevermore. I am in a rut - I will get out of it at some point.

message 481: by Brigid (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Haha I feel your pain, Ashley. Except I don't really have an excuse because I am not in school anymore and my job is only like 10 hours a week, and yet I still seem to accomplish nothing. I've been getting a little writing done but it's really slow-going. :P And I'm very behind on my GR challenge as well, even though I set it much lower than I usually do and I also keep reading multiple books at a time!

*b*l*u*e*m*o*o*n* | 986 comments Mod
I know what you guys all mean! There's just not enough time to read. hahahaha...I try to read as much as I can too, but I just feel like I'm not making a dent on my TBR pile. argh. At least I'm 'on track' with my GR challenge, but that's only because I've been sneaking in a few graphic novels.

message 483: by Brigid (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
Hahaha that's a good idea about the graphic novels, Bluemoon. I've been thinking about doing that myself ... partly to boost my book count, but also I feel like I need to delve into graphic novels more. :D

message 484: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Graphic novels and manga are the best way to get your count back up.

Locke & Key and Maus are two of my favorite GN's :)

message 485: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 6961 comments Mod
I really think some people are just better at skipping words/paragraphs than I am when they read. I seriously have to read nearly every single word in a book or it drives me crazy. I often end up back tracking and re-reading paragraphs because I think I missed something. I have never gotten the hang of speed reading because I am too afraid I will miss something!

message 486: by Brigid (new)

Brigid ✩ | 2471 comments Mod
@Ashley - Thanks! I've heard a lot about Maus and I've been meaning to read that. Haven't heard of Locke & Key but I will look that up. :)

@Heidi - I'm kind of the same way ... I read pretty fast, but I'm also always going back and re-reading paragraphs (sometimes whole pages, haha) because I feel like I wasn't paying close enough attention. Maybe that's why I always fall so far behind schedule. :D

I haven't read Maus(really need to change that), but Locke and Key is absolutely brilliant.

Kaylani (cityeclectics) | 277 comments So... I'm just here to update a little.
Since my brother died...
My SIL's oldest daughter has been super clingy with her mom (she is the reason he left the night he died and might still be alive if she hadn't tried to fight with him)
and keeps threatening to kill herself.

My SIL is really depressed nad I'm worried about her.

My health which was precariously hanging before my brother died took a turn. Not a good turn.

Was pickpocketed on the 11th for the majority of my money for the rest of the month. hurrah.
The 12th was the 18th anniversary of the first friend I made myself killing himself. Wednesday the 14th I found out another friend killed themselves that day.
Friday the 16th I they found tumors during a medical test and I'm waiting to find out if my cancer has spread/have cancer again.
Monday I fell and might have to have back surgery again. Things are getting worse and I have an MRI today to find out. It might have to be an ER kind of deal. :(
And I was supposed to have 24 hours of neurological testing to get a baseline so my epilepsy could be treated and I could start functioning a little again but I got a stomach bug and spent most of wednesday, instead of being hooked up to a little machine, projectile vomiting.

And this is just since the 11th of october... and its kind of been a steady stream of shit like this.

I am very saddened about the attacks on Lebanon and Paris. I am lucky to come from a country of plenty where people are free to think whatever they want and grow up thinking they can be anything if they put in the work. Attacks like the ones that just occurred remind me of just how lucky I have it. I am not really a religious person but I am glad I was not raised that to love a God means you have hate in your heart for others. My thoughts are with the people who were attacked not because of who they are as people but where they live/happened to be at the time.

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Heidi (Yup. Still here.) wrote: "I am very saddened about the attacks on Lebanon and Paris. I am lucky to come from a country of plenty where people are free to think whatever they want and grow up thinking they can be anything if..."

Well said, Heidi. It's been difficult to put into words how this makes me feel, but I'm quite saddened for our world right now.

Me too Kristen. It is crazy to me that we haven't evolved more as a species in 2+ million years. I understand why people attacked others that they didn't understand in the early times because people fear what they don't know but in this modern age where news/info is readily available I would hope we at least have a better understanding of each other :( I wasn't raised with propaganda or lacking for anything though so it is easy for me to be an idealist.

I think you hit the nail on the head. It's fear based. Unfortunately, I think it's still an emotion that's hard to control and easy to manipulate. In a lot of ways, the internet even makes that easier.

message 498: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments In general, there are less violent attacks/murders in America, and I think in most places world wide, than there has been in a very long time, but reports on them have gone up. So we hear more about violence that is happening less.

I don't mean to correct anyone, or to take any spotlight off the tragedies that have happened, which are just terrible, but I do think it's worth noting that these types of things are not at an all time high or anything like that and, if anything, they're trending down. I think most people are genuinely decent. It's scary how much power the ones who aren't have. How much damage a small percentage of bad people in the world can do.

message 499: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Tommy wrote: "It's scary how much power the ones who aren't have. How much damage a small percentage of bad people in the world can do."

This, in particular, is spot on. I don't disagree about what you're saying at all; in fact, I agree. I do think we're more aware and I think that awareness is important for change. There have always been religious zealot attacks and I suspect there always will be. But the idealist in me hopes our acute awareness brings about the evolution Heidi mentioned.

That, and until the number of incidents has declined to zero, I hope we will always continue to be devastated by such events. Otherwise, humanity really is done.

I do not think aggression/attacks are at an all time high or anything like that Tommy. People have always been violent and ruled by religion and fear. It just makes me sad that this has not changed when information is so much more readily available then even 20-30 years ago when I was in school.
