Steph (angel4492) | 32585 comments Hope everyone's 2013 is full of great reads!

In typical 'that's so me' style, I started reading Eternally Yours (Immortal Beloved, #3) by Cate Tiernan before I'd read Darkness Falls (Immortal Beloved, #2) by Cate Tiernan . :/ I'd guessed incorrectly (obviously) which book came first and jumped into the wrong one. You'd think I would'a realized I was a bit lost on some stuff. But, I read #1 in Mar 2011, so there was plenty I'd forgotten. Just figured I'd forgotten more than that I realized. LOL!

Now, I need to know ... should I stop where I am (~40% in) and start reading book #2; keep reading #3 and read #2 after; or keep reading #3 and skip #2?

I'm also re-reading The Prince (The Original Sinners, #3) by Tiffany Reisz .

Sandra | 25884 comments Love that pic Steph :)

Sorry I haven't read any of that series so I can't say :D

message 4: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32585 comments Thanks! Me too :D

No worries. I'm really hoping someone can help me though b/c I paused, but really wanna finish reading it. LOL!

SO very typically of me. I even double checked it when I added them to my reader, so I'd know which to read first and still flubbed it up. Damn! I'm leaning towards skipping #2, only b/c I think I now know what happens. But, my OCDemoness can't stand the thought of the gap and I'm sure there are bits to the story that I'd like to read which are included in the bits we're told in #3.

Josie | 1967 comments Oh dear, Steph! No doubt, it's happened to everyone - at least when it happened to me, it was HR book so luckily it had different characters!

In your situation, if it were me, I think I'd stop and go back to read #2, then carry on where you are. I don't think you'd regret it because I remember (hopefully correctly) that Ames really liked 'Darkness Falls'. Plus, it's not like you don't have the book :)

Lorelle (lozza2407) | 29 comments currently reading Kiss of the Night (Dark-Hunter, #5) by Sherrilyn Kenyon ( sobering up so i can start tonight ) . Then going onto Stormwalker (Stormwalker, #1) by Allyson James for a buddy read then The Greyfriar (Vampire Empire, #1) by Clay Griffith for a BOM

I'm about to start reading Loose Connections; Making Choices (#10) by Alexandria Infanté

message 8: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 90 comments I liked #2 much more, so I'd stop and go back. Plus you get a better sense of all the drama in the 3rd book from the 2nd one...as I type that out does that even make sense? Anywho, my vote is to go back and read 2, but I also don't think it would hurt the story too much if you just finished the 3rd one.

If you have forgotten what happened in book one Immortal Beloved (Immortal Beloved, #1) by Cate Tiernan , then I would reread it first. Then, read Darkness Falls (Immortal Beloved, #2) by Cate Tiernan and then Eternally Yours (Immortal Beloved, #3) by Cate Tiernan
I still have to read Eternally Yours (Immortal Beloved, #3) by Cate Tiernan and I'll finish the series.

message 10: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32585 comments All good suggestions ~ thanks! Amy, I remember most of book 1, at least now that I've read 1/2 of #3. I'm going to stop #3, read #2 and then finish the second 1/2 of #3. What a way to start off my yearly reads. Hopefully this will be a one time thing. ;)

message 11: by Josie (last edited Jan 05, 2013 02:59AM) (new)

message 12: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 18 comments I'm trying to clean up my TBR and doing the challenge, so am reading the 2 oldest books on there The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold and Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden I added them because they were popular and/or critically acclaimed and I wanted to read more books from that infamous BBC list. I expected them to be a lot more boring than they are for some reason, so I am glad I finally started reading them because so far I love them both!

Next up I think it will be either Bloodrose (Nightshade, #3) by Andrea Cremer or The Lost Prince (The Iron Fey Call of the Forgotten, #1) by Julie Kagawa

I am currently reading Seawitch (Greywalker, #7) by Kat Richardson , still trying to get through The Surgeon (Rizzoli & Isles, #1) by Tess Gerritsen and have a few others I am paging through and what not...

Oh and I also am trying to re-read Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs ..in anticipation for Frost Burned :D

You're welcome! I've finished Entice (The Violet Eden Chapters, # 2) by Jessica Shirvington which was amazing! I'm not reading: The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman I'm not that far into the book yet, but I'm kinda confused on what's gong on in the story at the moment.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9652 comments Sandra wrote: "Is that good, or bad Val. ROFL. Mine is in the mail, waiting, waiting ........"

Well, you can start reading the first 3 chapters on the author's website if you want. I was always fascinated by the demon realm so I got quite a bit of that in this book. Since the actions does not take place on earth the pacing and structure of the story is different naturally.

Is it any good? I liked it a lot even if it got me spitting mad. I can't tell you more because it would go into spoiler territory. Suffice to say that it's different and darker than the previous installments.

First 3 chapters:

Finished Night Walker (The Night Series, #1) by Lisa Kessler last night, which was a freebie I won at the author's Q&A at RRRC. A very different take on vampires and I really enjoyed it.

message 27: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32585 comments I finished Darkness Falls (Immortal Beloved, #2) by Cate Tiernan and Eternally Yours (Immortal Beloved, #3) by Cate Tiernan . I did pause 3, read 2 and return to finish 3. Glad I read both, my OCDemoness is quite happy too. ;) I rated them all 4. A really good trilogy. Sorry to see it end. I'd gotten hooked again, especially after reading the two back-to-back-to-back. Recommend it to those who like immortals and want something different from vamps and shifters.

Sandra, did you know there's a short out for that series book 1.5 Night Thief (Night Series, #1.5) by Lisa Kessler ? How's Hunter's Season? I have that one TBR also. Was holding off a bit longer since 6 isn't due until Nov-ish.

I'm 1/2 through my re-read of The Prince (The Original Sinners, #3) by Tiffany Reisz .

Haven't decided which to start next, but debating between: Shaedes of Gray (Shaede Assassin, #1) by Amanda Bonilla The Accidental Genie (Accidentally Friends, #7) by Dakota Cassidy
Grabbed audio of Rapture (The Fallen Angels, #4) by J.R. Ward and hope to start that soon.

message 28: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25884 comments Nope, didn't realise there was a shortie, added it :D

As to Hunter's Season, I needed a T & also a Thea Harrison from the literature map so it was a no-brainer.

I keep shoving Shaedes of Gray back on the pile so read that one so I know whether I should get around to it sooner. LOL.

message 29: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32585 comments :D Cool! Just spotted it myself, but haven't read #1, so I didn't grab it. See how restrained I am in 2013? LMAO! Yeah, that won't last long.

Nice how that worked out.

Yeah, me too. Might go for Genie b/c I could use a funny palette cleanser. ;)

I've been reading some new-2-me authors from the library (Teresa Medeiros vamps-may have spelled her name wrong, but too tired to even click & search on the "add book/author" link above...)

What challenge are you using literature map for, Sandra? I'd forgotten about that, and it's rather fun!

message 34: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Ames, your books have such interesting titles!

I've been so chaotic with my reading lately, at the moment it's Up In Smoke (Silver Dragons, #2) by Katie MacAlister and Once Burned (Night Prince, #1) by Jeaniene Frost which I'm liking.

@Steph: Glad to see you liked the 'Immortal Beloved' series, strangely I found Darkness Falls (Immortal Beloved, #2) by Cate Tiernan at the library today so I'll hopefully be reading them as well soon :)

I also found Shadow's Claim (The Dacians Realm of Blood and Mist, #1) by Kresley Cole and I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me if the Dacia/main characters are introduced in the 'Immortals After Dark' series because sometimes I see it labeled as a new series and sometimes it's #13 of IAD. I have #9, 10 and 11 on hand, just not 'Lothaire' - do I need to read this one first?

I had to read the Purity Myth in spurts. I look forward to your thoughts on this. I had two major criticisms of the book and the presentation of the ideas -- both in my review (I won't spoil it for you here and say what those are). But I fully agree with the concept and the ideas, just not necessarily the complete package by the author.

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9652 comments Listening to Conspiracy Game (GhostWalkers, #4) by Christine Feehan , I like that the villain is behind the scenes. I read her other Dark series which diminished in quality lately but so far I like the Ghostwalkers.

LMAO! I haven't started either yet. I planned on skimming Chalice (Planetary Submissives, #1) by Amber Kell and now I'm 1/2 way through it. May go with Shaedes after, we'll see. ;)

Hope you like Darkness Falls, Josie. And, I haven't read that far in the series to know about Shadow's Claim, sorry. But, I have seen it listed as the first in a new series - maybe spinoff? I saw the audio at the library and was considering grabbing it, so if you find out whether IAD is a required read before starting it, lemme know.

CyberAlmu | 302 comments Happy New Year to all my fellow Series Addicts! I'm happy to see so many posts already in this new thread!

I've just finished re-reading Eclipse (Twilight, #3) by Stephenie Meyer and listening to Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris . I have to admit that I liked it. At first, the Sookie Stackhouse series was a big disappointment. I don't know when I started growing fonder of it!

I'm doing a reread of Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward for the challenge, and plan to listen to Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse, #12) by Charlaine Harris .

I liked Drive Me Wild (The Others, #7) by Christine Warren better than Big Bad Wolf (The Others, #2) by Christine Warren . I generally like Warren's shifters.

Sandra | 25884 comments I do too Sandra J, I just couldn't read Black Magic Woman (The Others, #4) by Christine Warren I thought it was terrible.

So I haven't picked up any of hers since then, even though I bought them. Just something about this one appealed so I hope I like it too :D

message 45: by Sandra J (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 145 comments I haven't read any of hers that don't involve shifters. I'm not real fond of stories involving the fae and most witches (I like Tess though). And since I have no problem bouncing around in a series, I just ignore those. The first one I read of hers was Born To Be Wild which I really enjoyed.

message 49: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32585 comments I hear ya, Ezi. I listened to that one too and mainly b/c of some serious GR buddy peer pressure. I ended up liking it, but I was not at all sad when it ended. It's just not for me.

I finished Chalice (Planetary Submissives, #1) by Amber Kell , liked it so much I read Orlin's Fall (Planetary Submissives, #2) by Amber Kell and now I'm looking forward to #3 due out this month. Short, sexy reads. She, Amber Kell, does a great job (IMO) of developing the characters and world-building in such a short story. Wouldn't mind them being a bit longer actually.

I also read Love Is The Beginning (Valerie Dearborn, #0.5) by Caroline Hanson , my first purchase/read for 2013. Paid 99¢ for about 35-40 pgs, which I don't normally like to do. But, I really wanted to read Jack's story. Some author's probably would've offered it free on their website since it's a deleted bit from book #1. Oh well. Decent read and look into the why of his desire for revenge.

I think I'll give Shaedes of Gray (Shaede Assassin, #1) by Amanda Bonilla a go next, Miss Sandra. I'll let ya know how it goes. :)

message 50: by Ezi (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments I normally love those historical romances, which reminds me of sense and sensibility, pride and prejudice or even the movie Atonement, but this one hasn't hit that stride and I am losing my patience!
