Spreadsheets

- Once all columns of a goal have been filled out a new goal will appear within 5 minutes.

- Do not change existing pages. You may add a new page to your spreadsheet if you want to track additional information.

- Mark books as used in your books list once they are used for a goal.

- Only books read during the current round may be applied towards goals, once the round has ended those books may no longer be used for a goal.

- Once you merge teams, you may use your books for your partner teams goals. List them in your books list and on their goals sheet. Mark them as used.

- If you end up with more than 3 open goals, contact a moderator for help.

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Hello team!! Very excited for this challenge.

I'm currently living on Oslo, Norway. And have quite a lot of time free to read, although I'm not a fast reader.
I tend to gravitate to fantasy, scifi and romance, but I don't have problems reading almost any other genre.

Good morning Gladiators!

I am from Sydney, Australia. I work full time, have an (almost) 3 year old and I am 7 months pregnant. So.... I will be having a baby gladiator during this challenge! :o
I read about 10 books per month and I can't stretch that much unless I choose shorter books for challenges like this. Half of my books are via audio while driving to and from work, cooking etc.
I tend to read character-driven novels rather than genre, but I do stay away from Horror and I don't enjoy flat out Romance so much. Most of the genres of my books are Fiction, Literary Fiction, Historical Fiction, YA and YA Fantasy.

message 11: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Hi, checking in!

I'm in Winnipeg, Canada. I live with my boyfriend and 2 cats. I read about 2-3 books a week, although sometimes less and I love a lot of different genres. I read general and literary fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, light sci-fi, light fantasy, contemporary, YA, and recently I've started trying out romance.

message 12: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I've just sent everyone a friend request. I hope that's ok.

message 13: by Kay Kay (new)

Kay Kay | 1794 comments Hi! My name is Karrie and I live in the US. I LOVE to read and read an average of 2 to 3 books a week. I am a very eclectic reader and will read just about anything.
I am excited for this challenge to start.

message 14: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments Hello all! My name is Melissa and I am in the U.S.
I live with my boyfriend and two daughters ages 11 and 10. Once September starts we get a little busier with school and activities but I can usually get in 3-4 books a month. Depending on how quick I get thru the books I may be able to stretch to 5 or 6. I will read anything but my favorite are paranormal fiction. I also like historical fiction.
I'm so excited for this challenge!
Congrats to the new Mommy to be!!!
The more friends the merrier!!

message 15: by Shan ~A~ (new)

Shan ~A~ (thebookglutton) | 836 comments Hey all!!!
My name is Shan and I live in the US of A. I am married, have 4 kids, and am district supervisor for a security company (so I work full time in and out of my home).

I love to read and depending on the time I have and length of book I usually try to read at least 2 to 3 books a week. It hasn't been that easy lately cause I have been having to work a bit more than usual, but I promise even if I get busy I will read at least a book a week.

I love romance in most of its subgenres, and I have spells where I will read just about anything else. I love to laugh, so if it is romantic and funny at the same time all the better. Even better if it's spiced up a bit.

The master spreadsheet and team spreadsheet has been added to the beginning of your team thread.

Captains and co-captains should message the moderator account with their team name and google doc e-mail to be added to the approved editors of the team spreadsheet.

Hi everyone!

Our first 3 goals have been revealed. Please yell out if you have a book you can read in the next week that meets one of these:

**Read a book with the main genre (listed on the first page on GR) as Science Fiction --Karen reading The Invisible Library

**Read a book written by an author who was born in Central America

**Read a book where a character is a dentist

These lists:

**/list/show/8...
**/shelf/show/...
**
**
**

may help with the central american authors. You will just need to check the author's country of origin. Central America consists of seven countries: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Hello team!! It's Nice to meet you all!!
So cool that we have a Gladiator baby!! Congrats Karen.

I'm not home for the major part of today so I'll check my books later and send the mods my email to access the spreadsheet.

Just don't forget that we can only start reading the books after the official start of the challenge.

I've found Demon Dentist which is a children's book, and I haven't found a word count, but the audio is almost 5 hours to it would count as over 160 pages. Unfortunately it is not available at the library yet. I'vbe stuck it on hold just in case we need it though.

Having loads of trouble with the Central American author as we just really don't stock them in libraries here. I'm hoping one of you has more luck!

message 20: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Team, could you leave a message with the link for you challenge's shelf? I'd like to list them all in one message at the beginning of the thread.

And when reporting a finished book, please put the following data: Title (with link for the specific edition read), author, date finished, number of page, and if works for any of the goals (describing which one and why if not obvious).

Example

The Last Command by Timothy Zahn
Finished: 8/01
Pages: 467
Goal: Science Fiction as main genre

And don't forget to put it on your challenge's shelf.

message 21: by Juliana (new)

Juliana Rodrigues (julianamfrodrigues) | 1748 comments Karen, I think I may be able to find a book on my local library that fits the Central American author goal, but I'll have to wait til Monday to go there and see what I can find.

message 22: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments Found one! And I have it on hold at the library. I'll try and get there today before it closes if not I'll get there on Monday for sure.

Joanne Wow so much activity since I last checked. The only book I can think of featuring a dentist main character is To Rise Again at a Decent Hour by Joshua Ferris by Joshua Ferris which I read a while back but I actually didn't care for it so would have a hard time recommending it to anyone.

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments Hi everyone, I'm Stacey. Sorry I'm late--I spent the last 2 days in the car traveling, and I hate posting on my cell.

I live in the US--usually North Carolina, but currently Maine. :) I typically read about 2-3 books a week, but my reading time has been cut recently by my 6 month old puppy--he's VERY busy! I'm hoping to get back to this level. I will read just about anything, but my preferences tend to run toward UF, PNR, YA and anything that has romance.

I'm excited to get started!

message 43: by ±õ²Ôê²õ (new)

±õ²Ôê²õ Faria (inesrfaria) | 209 comments Hello everyone!
I'm currently reading The Invisible Library (The Invisible Library #1) by Genevieve Cogman for BOM and I'm already half way through The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1) by Mary E. Pearson
I don't think either of them complete any goals right now, but they still count for attack points though :)

message 44: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I finished one of my currently reading books last night and started Dark Fire (Matthew Shardlake, #2) by C.J. Sansom which is #2 in a series and is due back at the library on August 5th. So I'm going to try to do some heavy reading today and make some progress on this one.

Both of these books look so interesting... *must...resist...adding them...*

±õ²Ôê²õ Faria (inesrfaria) | 209 comments I just started reading them today, but they are both getting SO GOOD, you have no idea :)
I know what you mean, my tbr pile is enormous, although I just can't resist adding more books!

message 47: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 3744 comments I will be getting the dentist book tomorrow at the library. I am currently reading Dreams of Gods & Monsters last book in the series. (BTW is very good if anyone is looking for a YA paranormal series)

I read the first 2. Not sure why I haven't gotten around to this one yet. Should just finish it already I guess.

Oh I loved that series! Book 2 was my favourite (which is a bit unusual for me) as I found book 3 she just tried a bit too much to throw a lot of things together. I'll be interested in your thoughts!

I'm also reading our BOM
The Invisible Library (The Invisible Library #1) by Genevieve Cogman
which I nominated as it was chosen for one of my RL bookclubs that is meeting this month. It counts for our Sci-Fi genre goal, so Ines if you finish first we'll count your copy to the goal!

I finished
Crocodile on the Sandbank (Amelia Peabody #1) by Elizabeth Peters
today which unfortunately doesn't count for the challenge as I started it a week ago. It was a series recommended to me during TT and it was quite enjoyable for an old-school cozy mystery!

Next up is
Erak's Ransom (Ranger's Apprentice, #7) by John Flanagan
which is another series I started a while ago. It starts as middle grade and then as the characters age it is moving into more YA. This is book 7 in the series
