Natalie | 234 comments Hi All! You both are doing great and we are just ahead of the game at the moment thanks to it.

Jessica has unfortunately been having some health issues that has affected her reading. She's staying with team, but is unable to read her color books. So we need options for the following:

8 Yellow
8 Red

Let me know if you have anything, otherwise I can cover them.

Natalie | 234 comments Also, I found a status table in a few of the other teams spreadsheet and added it to ours to give an easy assessment of what we still need to cover. For the most part, I fill in the sheet as I go and slot it into the next available space. I have been filling reverse cards early as those can be annoying to find at the end of the month if they aren't covered. Right now we have two left!

I am currently reading In the Woods, which I think you read Natalie, so that should cover one, and I'm also thinking of reading Clean Sweep.

I'll take a look at my color books and let you know.

Venecia | 131 comments You can put me down for the 8 yellow, Natalie.

Cecily Black | 148 comments I found Wicked Appetite (Lizzy & Diesel, #1) by Janet Evanovich for 8 Red but it is on hold and I am #1 on 3 copies so I should get one soon!!

message 256: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments I also just added one that could be used for reverse as well!

message 257: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Reverses are covered!

Venecia | 131 comments I wonder if the mini challenge will have a St. Patrick's/Irish theme.

Probably!! And maybe a spring theme for April!!

message 260: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments I can't speculate since I've already seen it, but it will be posted soon so get ready :)

message 261: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Can I get this clarified please.
2. Read one book that is one of the team names for 30 points
Note: Where a team name is a series book, only book 1 of the series can count for this part.

Read the first book the character is known for. For our character, it would be The Book Thief (one book). For characters from a series (Kate Daniels) only the first book of the series would count, Magic Bites.

I'll add a tracking area to the spreadsheet.

Also how are people at scrabble? I'm not that great. I did come up with one seven letter option, but we get bonus points for completing part one, so we should focus on that first.

Thanks. The wording of the task is weird. Or I'm weird, one of these :-)

Both? :)

I have A Man Called Ove on audio so I could use it for that task, unless someone else wants to read for it. It would also work for the other parts.

Limited to 14 characters :P

The most I found was one that did 36, but I'm pretty sure that there were more words that it didn't find.

message 267: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments I think both of you like having tasks to read for, so add to the sheet what you are planning and I can fill in from there. I know I'm also going to read Magic Rises which works for parts 1 and 3.

message 268: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments I am so lost, might take me a bit to understand what is going on.
I know I have already read The Book Thief

message 269: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments What about the word "Blanked" because that is what I just did lol

message 270: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments or Blanket lol

message 271: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments Or the word "yesterday" I am unsure what we are supposed to do. :(

message 272: by Venecia (last edited Mar 12, 2017 12:34PM) (new)

Venecia | 131 comments The plan is to focus on the first part of the Bonus mini challenge first, then we can tackle the Scrabble part.

For Part 1 A, we need to read books written by the authors that wrote the books that the team names were taken from. We can do up to 5 of those.

Part 1 B - Natalie is doing that with A man called Ove.

Part 1C - We need to find the names of characters from the team name books, in the books we read.
For example: I may find a character called Robert in my book The Shipping News. That counts as Robert is a character from the book used to get Team Robert Langdon. We need to get 10 different ones.

I don't get the first part. Is there somewhere I can read about it?

I explained a bit in my message above. You can also check out the mini thread here. /topic/show/...

Okay thank you!!
So it can be any one of the teams names and characters, not just our own. That was where I was stuck

message 276: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments And we can't start until the 15th for the mini!! Just in case no one else saw that :)

Yes any of the teams.

message 278: by Natalie (last edited Mar 12, 2017 01:02PM) (new)

Natalie | 234 comments And for characters, it doesn't have to be for the one that the team is named for [edit: this is for series books]. For example since we have a Team Ron Weasley, any book we read that has a Harry, Sirius, Hermione, etc. would work.

message 279: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments can we find the same name more than once? (for example if I read two separate books with a Rachel in it)

No each name only once.

message 283: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Cecily wrote: "ooh Natalie!! How did you like This Savage Song???"

I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the sequel. I am a bit confused about the world and wish we got a bit more info about that.

Vicious is still my favorite by her. I love a good villain and she is writing a sequel to it.

Glad you liked it!! I know what you mean about the confusion about the world, but it really just makes me want to read more!!

I will have to check out Vicious soon ! :)

message 285: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments I made a few changes to the tracking sheet. I moved the scrabble game to its own page and added a section below for unplaced books. If you finish something (started after 3/15) and it does not fit for part 1, add it there with what letters it works for.

message 286: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments Have you heard from Jessica, Natalie? How is she doing health-wise?

message 287: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Venecia wrote: "Have you heard from Jessica, Natalie? How is she doing health-wise?"

I have not, but I just checked in with her. We're reading ahead of what we needed between the three of us (mainly you two) so I don't think we would get another teammate.

message 288: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments What words have we decided on for Scrabble? I just want to keep an eye out for the appropriate letters..

Venecia | 131 comments Cecily wrote: "What words have we decided on for Scrabble? I just want to keep an eye out for the appropriate letters.."

We haven't decided on the words yet as the goal is to use as many of the letters as possible. I would work off the list of letters on the mini 2 tab, focus on the vowels first and then go from there.

message 290: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Cecily, does Where We Belong fit for any of the March mini tasks? I don't see it on the tracking sheet.

message 291: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments I don't think that it does, unless we can eventually use it for the scrabble portion.

message 292: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments I added a part to the scrabble planning section of books we don't use for part one. Can you add it with what letters it work for?

message 293: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments Is it all the same categories as the cards? Like characters and locations etc...??

message 294: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Cecily wrote: "Is it all the same categories as the cards? Like characters and locations etc...??"

Yup:

Normal "spell-it-out" rules apply. i.e. Letter needs to be the first letter in the book title, author first name or surname, character name or nickname, or setting. Articles (a/an/the) can be ignored in the book titles. For this spell-it-out, you can also use the first letter in the series name.

Venecia | 131 comments Natalie, check out the scrabble words. I think that is place to stop. What do you guys think?

Natalie | 234 comments Venecia wrote: "Natalie, check out the scrabble words. I think that is place to stop. What do you guys think?"

Looks great! Thanks for figuring this out. We'll need 43 books to fill every spot and we have 10 books put aside right now, I don't think we'll get them all, but we'll get as many as possible.

For the other parts of the challenge.

Cards - 15 spots open
6 & 8 Yellow - Venecia
3, 5, 7, 7, 8, 9
And then 7 W/WD4

I'm certain we'll have no issues covering these cards as we work on the mini challenge.

For March Mini Part 1 -
Venecia
- Blood Bound
- Gunmetal Magic

Cecily
- The Luxe

Natalie
- Cry Wolf
- A Man Called Ove

12 Days to go! Please let me know if you have trouble finishing anything

message 297: by Venecia (new)

Venecia | 131 comments I might change my books for the Mini Part one, but I'll finish everything I have committed to.

message 298: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments That's fine. As long as we're covering the spots we said we would, we'll be good. If you need to change, just let me know and I can find something.

message 299: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 148 comments All Looks good! I am about 1/2 way through The Luxe right now and then after that I will just keep reading, hopefully we will get most of it covered by the end!! We are doing pretty fricken awesome for 3 people!!

message 300: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 234 comments Eleven days to go!

Cards - 11 spots open
6 Yellow - Venecia
5, 7, 7
And then 7 W/WD4

I can swap books around so read for whatever and I can fit.

March Mini Part 1 -
Venecia
- The Mirror Crack'd
- Magic Gifts

Natalie
- A Man Called Ove

For scrabble, I think I'm going to wait until Saturday, start slotting books in, and then see where we need letters. E, N, R, S, & Y are the most frequent.
