So excited for the mini challenge!

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2181 comments I vote for SCROOGE & I’m also excited for the mini game!

FYI & JIC My daughter-in-law’s uncle passed away and the service is tomorrow. My son is a pastor so he’s officiating. His family (5 of their 6 children) will be coming and I’ll get to meet my new great-grandson!! So excited!!! He’ll be 2 months on Saturday. Then at 4:00 my granddaughter is having her 11th birthday party/dinner at BJ’s so my reading is cut into. Plus today I awoke with a headache. I’m telling all of this in case I cannot finish my reads. I’ll definitely get 7 Deaths finished. And I’ll do my best to finish the others, but my son’s family is coming from over 300 miles away so it might not happen. I know they’re returning home Saturday morning but not sure what time, so I hope everybody understands.

Erin, can you look at my planned books and tell me if there’s any preference for me to finish. And I normally have to post by 1:00 PST on Saturdays. Can I possibly have any later just this one time or will that mess you/the team up?

The Mini Challenge for next week looks exciting! I'm in the process of adding all the categories to the planning sheet right now.

You can claim some of the books when the spreadsheet tab is open. Our main priority is still fill the spell it outs. Thankfully the tasks are not too difficult, so this is not as hard as it looks.

Next week:
Do Spell-It-Outs for Last Week Points and Placement
Difficult Letters (O,I, etc.) for Placement
Mini-Challenge Bonus Points
4 Weekly Word Bonuses as Usual

As you can tell, it will be a pretty intense week!

On the Week 6 Planning Tab, if your book works to complete a bonus, please write Yes or No, even if you do not have that task/book reserved on the planning sheet (if someone else grabbed it for example)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6272 comments Also it looks like the December Anthology BOM works for the "Read a book that celebrates Hanukkah" task"

First, I'm sorry for your loss. Second, how adorable about your grandson! Sounds like your time is packed! If you just want to save the books and reserve for a strong reading week next week when you have time, that is okay. We are doing well this week, and may be able to conserve energy for next week if it has to work that way for you due to time constraints. Thanks for being such a strong, dependable player every week of this challenge - you are definitely appreciated.

Awe, thank you, Erin. :) BTW, how will I know if I've been chosen to do the DQ's for the BOM for December?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6272 comments So far we have four votes for Scrooge. One more and I'll let the mods know - then we can officially start planning =)

Unfortunately you weren't chosen. I was looking this morning. Our team signed up for every BOM but never got chosen through the challenge to ask questions. I'm not concentrating as much on BOM points because we never get picked for that, it seems the same teams do for those extra 40 points. Either way we've done pretty well for BOM since we have had several members at least reading and answering questions.

Right now we're placement 6 for that category, which is pretty good. I'm planning to finish one this week too, and I believe at least 2 of our members are reading the December anthology, so yay :)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6272 comments By Week 4 end, we were in #10 Placement.

So our Bonus Mini Challenge Points will be earn up to 200

As a reminder, we cannot read the same book for a Mini Challenge Task AND a Weekly Bonus Task (Like MPG)

I'm almost relieved. LOL Only because I've never done it before. It seems there should/could be a more fair way to choose the DQ's, such as if a team has already had to opportunity, they can't do them again until all teams have had the opportunity. Or something other than some of the same teams having 2 or more chances for the points and other teams (us lol) having no chance to do them.

message 661: by Vicki (last edited Nov 29, 2018 09:44AM) (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2181 comments BTW, I finally got my BOM for this month The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White . I assume that I cannot read it next month for extra bonus points, right? If the bonus points would help us, I could finish my one book I'm currently reading and then do the Elizabeth book, but I guess if I finish it Saturday it won't count since it's December 1. Or will it since Saturday ends our week?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6272 comments I will double check on that Vicki. I read somewhere that if you read within a month of when the BOM starts, it can still count.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6272 comments One thing to note is that while usually larger page count books are the most helpful (because of more points), with the Mini Challenge it doesn't matter at all as long as they are the minimum page count of 160 pages.

So usually those 175 pgers only get us 5 points and hardly seem worth it - but if paired up with the 40 or 50 point mini challenges, 45 and 55 for only 175 pg books sounds much, much better =)

I wouldn't aim for length unless you already are reading it for another reason for most of the mini challenges, as it won't make a point difference but will take up more time.

I'll start hunting for those smaller books then. lol

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2181 comments For the Mini Challenge, do you think A Court of Wings and Ruin (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3) by Sarah J. Maas would work for a green "item" on the cover?

message 667: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I'd vote for Goodwill just for the extra difficult letter, but either one is fine for me. 😊

message 668: by Colleen (new)

Colleen | 238 comments Either spell-out word is fine by me too.

I think that's more of a cover color than an item. To be safe I'd say no on that one, but it would probably work for something else.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6272 comments The consensus seems to be Scrooge, so I'm going to turn that one in and we can start planning.

Bigger length books are worth more points, but it looks like to get the bonus of 200 points (big jump), we need to finish 40 task books. We also have to finish 4 regular bonus books. So, 44 books total. We may have to whip out some of the short ones to accomplish this. :)

Either way, will be lots of fun I'm sure.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6272 comments Okay, looking at previous weeks, we have finished at least 44 books before. Because of this, we may not have to focus on shorter length. Longer does equal more points, so whichever works best for you.

It did me at first, I wasn't getting it, then I figured out if you look at each of the three numbers together, they are either counting up or down. Like 9-8-7 of 3-2-1

Oh shoot, I'll have to find something else for it then. Thanks :)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6272 comments

Our priority for next week - our last week - will be the Mini Challenge Bonuses. The 200 point Christmas bonus can be earned if all books are completed, and we get points for each bonus filled in addition to this.

I have reserved a few of the 50 and 40 point ones, and I see others have as well - if we do not finish all these bonuses, at least finishing the higher scoring ones will give us more points. I think we can finish all of it myself - some are very vague and some are more difficult.

If you finish a book you didn't have reserved in a task, and you find that it fits a task that is already reserved, please post here and let us know. It's possible the other reader may be able to find another spot their book fits, or they may be able to pick another book for another task instead.

Please reserve some books ASAP on the spreadsheet - we have two tabs (Weekly and Bonus).

Thanks, it's Friday already --- I will have my BOM done today, and my other short book finished by the morning.

Okay, looked into this. You have a month from the date the BOM begins to read it. (Around 12/16) - so you could read and count it this week or next week.

Thank you, Carrie. Which two bonuses are these for? I'm assuming the two for dogs but not sure - then I'll reserve them on the spreadsheet for you if you'd like. I see them on the Spell it out but not reserved on the bonuses tab.
