Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2179 comments Right? LOL It's so funny how different book lovers are from non-readers who don't quite get it. My daughter Heather (who happens to be on GR and is an English teacher and freelance editor) said to me about 2 weeks ago, "Books just make me so happy!" and that was out of the clear blue. LOL I love that she loves books.

I met Trisha when she got to go to SF for a Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ event in 2016, I think it was. We'd been online friends in GR since August 2012 and finally met in person. It was so nice. I live a little over an hour from SF UNLESS you got in the morning after 3:30 and then you're looking at 3 hours. LOL

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments How nice to live that close to SF. I wouldn't want to live there but I'd love to visit it regularly. It was a delight to meet some of the names on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ. I wish I could do it every year, but sadly this was a one-time thing.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments Our word of the Week is Eggnog, but for the bonus word we can also use "Drink". That doesn't make it much better honestly. I'm looking right now for non-hyphenated genre tags that fit either. Won't be easy to find since we can't use cookbooks.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments I may have found one but it's tagged "Food and drink". I own it actually. I will double check with the mod group to see if it can be used.

Ugh nevermind, my book doesn't count because it's too low of a page count. But I still put out the question to see what could count. I'm still on the hunt.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments Found one!!

To Brew or Not to Brew (Brewing Trouble, #1) by Joyce Tremel

Has "Drinks" as its tag.

I can take if no one else wants it. I may have to cut out one of the other planned books to make it work, will see what time I have this week. I always overplan

Sounds great. It actually sounds very cute, I'll probably read it someday as well. Let me know what you think of it.

Cecily Black | 1805 comments Finished a "G" book and starting an "E" book.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments Thanks, Cecily, updated.

I'm re-reading Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. Was up to the wee hours absorbed in that world again.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments We're off to a great start. We finished our first spelling of Eggnog, one bonus, earned the 15 point completion bonus, and are over halfway through a second spelling.

message 612: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 1805 comments Finished another "E" book and started another "G" book.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments I finished "Bitten", now am off to bed - work tomorrow after my four day break (bummer).

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments Cecily wrote: "Finished another "E" book and started another "G" book."

Thank you, you, Vicki and Teri are definitely off on the right foot. I think you've both finished like three books each already!

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Finished a G book. Erin I also have to go to work tomorrow after a four day break. Im not excited at all..

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments Jessi wrote: "Finished a G book. Erin I also have to go to work tomorrow after a four day break. Im not excited at all.."

Yeah, it's rough. I woke up feeling like I was walking around in a dream state this morning. So odd. Zombie Erin took over.

I'm waking up with some Podcasts, which is helping. We can hope work goes quickly to help us get over the shock :0)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments It's so sad these are the last two weeks of the challenge. It's gone so quickly.

It went by super fast!! I'm a little sad too

Cecily Black | 1805 comments Does anyone know of any new NBRC reading challenges coming up after ????

message 620: by Cecily (new)

Cecily Black | 1805 comments Finished my James Patterson book!! Started reading Broken Things this morning, another PD Day at school so I have more reading time today.

message 621: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2179 comments So I’m not the only one who’s sad this challenge is nearly over?

Cecily Black | 1805 comments Vicki wrote: "So I’m not the only one who’s sad this challenge is nearly over?"

Nope, I am sad too :(
really helps me pick what I am going to read next!!

message 623: by Teri (new)

Teri | 678 comments I like these challenges because I always end up reading something I normally wouldn't, or something that has been on my TBR forever but for whatever reason, I have not gotten to yet.

My books will be at the library tomorrow, the ones for eggnog in the title and the MPG drink. So hopefully I will get those done within a day or two, I am working an O and a G right now. I have two more G's I got from the library, but I'm not sure if I have overbooked myself or not.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments Cecily wrote: "Does anyone know of any new NBRC reading challenges coming up after ????"

No, but I hope they come up with another team one soon. After this and Towers, I'm still having fun.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments Vicki wrote: "So I’m not the only one who’s sad this challenge is nearly over?"

No, definitely not. Six weeks goes by too fast apparently.

Same, I'm in a big reading mood but I'm trying to push extra hard since it's the last two weeks. Hoping we can climb a bit but we'll see. It's fun to keep trying.

Oh, and I officially love the term "overbooked" when it comes to reading challenges =)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments We are already one letter off from finished our third full word!

We took reading G's seriously, I just used one of my G's for an N. Eggnog isn't looking as intimidating anymore, we're filling them all out quickly.

message 628: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2179 comments I think a lot of our books could cover all the letters because there are only 3. Lol I’ll let you know the other letters my books cover. I’m pushing myself too but today has pretty much been out since I’ve been gone all day. I’m still not home. I should finish Forever My Girl tonight though.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

message 630: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Erin, I see you put yourself down to read Gone if you have time. Let me know what you think about it. I'm reading it now and really enjoying it!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments Glad to hear it's good. I heard about it from a Stephen King rec of all things. I haven't tried any of it yet so not sure how easy or difficult the reading/writing style is. Encouraging to hear it's good. I was hoping to get to it this week. I'm about to finish up a series romance book, and then start my Eggnog book.

You're really on a roll. I have a good feeling about this week with our team. Maybe the Thanksgiving holiday helped a lot of us unwind, I know it did me.

Same, I will miss our team when it ends next Saturday. I'm crossing fingers we get a word we like for the final spin.

I agree, Carrie! It's so nice to "work" with others who are participatory and nice people! It's been a good and FUN group! We might not be #1 on the billboard (is that the right word? lol), but we are #1 of the groups!!! :)

Teri | 678 comments Finished one for O, about halfway done with a G, and I'm going to start To Brew or Not to Brew

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments I finished my romance book, read 33% of a shorter 5 pointer I'm working on (The Chronicle of Heloise & Grimple), and about to start my bonus book Eggnog and Extortion

That's the spirit - and you're completely right on that score =)

Did everyone see the new challenge announcement for when Wheelathon ends? It's an individual against individual challenge. Sounds...different. Signed up.

message 640: by Jessi (new)

Jessi (jazzykitty) | 1644 comments Thanks for the link Erin! I've been busy busy reading to get Gone finished so I haven't been on much today so I hadn't seen the new challenge yet. I'm now signed up!

So Gone is like a YA version of Stephen King's Under the Dome only everyone 15 and older disappear and then it's like Lord of the Flies under the dome. It reads easy and fast. My only complaint, and it's a small one, is that the main characters are 14 almost 15 and they act more like 17 year olds. No sex, there is some love interest but it's appropriate for the age group. There's violence and a couple of the kids are Christians but the book never goes preachy. I really enjoyed it and will continue on with the series!

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments This has been a fun challenge and a great group! I'm sad there's only 1 week left.

Off to check out the new challenge....

message 642: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 1377 comments I've decided to do the first BOM next week. It's an anthology - how does that work for letter purposes? Can I use ANY of the author's names?

message 643: by Colleen (new)

Colleen | 238 comments Good luck on those joining the new challenge! Amazing how fast 6 weeks goes - especially this time of year.

message 644: by Carrie (last edited Nov 28, 2018 06:53PM) (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1220 comments Thanks Erin for the info on the new challenge! I also added my current book (plus the one I finished and was added to the team ss already) to the planning sheet. I'm bad about planning ahead. Hopefully, I'll have this book finished by tomorrow.

I started watching the under the Dome TV show and really liked Lord of Flies. I'm more excited about it now after hearing this.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments The mods did a new twist on the last spin. We have to choose one of THREE words that we want to do. Our deadline is by the end of this week, so it would be nice to put in our choice tonight to start planning.

SCROOGE
GOODWILL
EGGNOG

I vote no on Eggnog since we are already doing that one and I'm already tired of that word.

The other two give us double O's with helps with placement for difficult letters.

Goodwill is 8 letters, and Scrooge is 7 letters, so one is slightly shorter than the others. However, this doesn't seem to really matter overall since we only get points for finishing the first word (15 points), and will probably still finish the same number of words depending on which we choose of these two.

I'm intrigued by Scrooge I think, because S, R, E are easy. That can leave us with the C's, O's, and one G to tough out. On the other hand Goodwill has two difficult letters (O and I)

What are everyone's thoughts?

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 6267 comments Jessi wrote: "Has anyone seen the mini challenge?"

Yes, I was about to post about that as well.

A way to earn extra points!

They will have this on our spreadsheet by the end of the week.

We can start reserving for extra points - I will also be putting on the Planning Spreadsheet.

This is an optional mini challenge for our Wheelathon players during week 6 only.

This mini challenge is all about reading different tasks related to the holiday season!

¸¸.*¨*•♫ ¸¸.*¨*•♫ ¸¸.*¨*•♫ ¸¸.*¨*•♫ ¸¸.*¨*•♫

How to play

For each task read you will receive points (as listed)
If you complete all 40 tasks your team will receive Christmas Bonus points
Only books read during week 6 of wheelathon will count for this mini challenge.
The usual book length requirement and other rules for wheelathon apply.
☃Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books for what you are claiming for your wheelathon spell-it-out. They DO need to be different to what you are claiming for your weekly bonuses (for e.g. word as MPG)

Bonus Points
Bonus points will be dependent on your teams ranking as at the end of week 4.
Teams in places 1-4: 100 points
Teams in places 5-9: 150 points
Teams in places 10-13: 200 points
Teams in places 14-16: 300 points

Yes, that should be fine on using any of the author names. I will doublecheck to make sure.

Looks like no - found this from the mods faq:

for anthologies, with an editor, we can only use the editor.

i.e. for the BOM My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories, the available letters would be M (title) / S / P (editor) & any character names
