Ripley | 9 comments I loved Laurann Dohner VLG series, Nightwind Pack Series and Mating Heat Series, I am looking for more werewolf books or stories I haven't been able to find any that are at least this good. I don't like other shifter stories just wolfs and I am more into romance than erotica but I don't mind if the series or books fall in that category as long as the storyline is good and the hot scenes don't take more than 30 % of the book. I have read some books where it got boring because of the overwhelming hot scene % in the book. I love the VLG series the most, then Nightwind Pack then Mating heat.
I am looking forward to your recommendations, thank you!

BJ (barbararhodes) | 26 comments I've listed a few from A - I have loads more but first let me know what if any, suit you. I recommended only those I rate highly, 5 stars. They are all romance, love stories with some steamy scenes. I like stories where the couple work for their HEA.
The Leopard King (Ars Numina, #1) by Ann Aguirre - book 1 in one of my favourite series, romance, wolves but the 1st book both leads are 'cats'.
Midnight Touch (Midnight Pack #1) by L. Ann - book 1 in series, romance and wolves.
Black Gold (Takhini Wolves, #1) by Vivian Arend - book 1 in series, romance and wolves.
Basic Instinct (Shifters of Darkness Falls #1) by Jasmin Quinn - book 1 romance, wolves and a murder mystery thread in background. For me, this is an outstanding series.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 156 comments So I'm the opposite to you. Felines are my fav type of shifter, but I generally prefer 'mixed' species stories as I find them much more interesting. The few wolves only that I can recall that I've read are;
Wolfsong (Green Creek, #1) by T.J. Klune This is the best of the best as far as I'm concerned, the whole series is 5 stars (and I've read book 1 three times and book 2 twice... and I very rarely reread, even my favs)
Secrets of Lunar Falls by Lashell Collins the romance is not my personal fav but a good series arc
Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega, #1) by Patricia Briggs better to start with the prequel novella, but this is a great series that is connected to the Mercy Thompson world by the same author but I prefer this series

Gentry (Wolves of Winter's Edge, #1) by T.S. Joyce for short reads for when you only have a little bit of reading time. This author is a go to for her shifter stories for me.
Steal Her Heart (Kaid Ranch Shifters, #1) by T.S. Joyce by the same author as above, also novella length. This first book is a bear shifter but the others are brothers and are all wolves.

The Last Wolf (The Legend of All Wolves, #1) by Maria Vale And this is one that I'm going to read this month that I've had on my TBR since the first book released.

BJ (barbararhodes) | 26 comments All the stars for The Last Wolf is in a class/world of its own!

That's good to know.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 156 comments Carolyn wrote: "I just finished Kresley Cole's book A Hunger like no other. I am currently starting Wolfsong but I got to thinking. Are there any pnr books where the beings aren't vampires or werewolves. Is there ..."

Hey, me again (I'm the one that told you about Wolfsong in another thread).

This is another series that I loved
Death's Dancer (Grace Bloods, #1) by Jasmine Silvera Dancer's Flame (Grace Bloods, #2) by Jasmine Silvera The Talon & the Blade (Grace Bloods #3) by Jasmine Silvera is based on necromancers and those that dance for the Gods.

Deal with the Demon by Chace Verity The Demon Next Door by Chace Verity These are cute and angst free shorts (you may need something like this after Wolfsong!),

The Lightning-Struck Heart (Tales From Verania, #1) by T.J. Klune TJ Klune also has this series that I've not yet read, but I think it's high fantasy rather than PNR but is a very different kettle of fish to the Green Creek (Wolfsong) series. It has a unicorn...!

The Unleashing (Call of Crows, #1) by Shelly Laurenston This is a trilogy by another of my fav authors that I've not yet read and they are valkyrie type creatures based on Norse Mythology. I need to get to this one soon. And her Shifter world, which is three series is multi species shifters and is hilarious, especially the last one, the Honey Badger Chronicles, which is comedy gold as far as I'm concerned!

I could go on 😆 as I have tons of other shifter types (some of my fav series are multi-species shifters lol), a few other non shifter/vamp ones and quite a few standalones too.

The Last Wolf (The Legend of All Wolves, #1) by Maria Vale I mentioned this one in my last post, but I'll also offer up this wolf series that I've just devoured because it is very different to the 'norm' in that they are animals first and foremost and in their human 'skin' (they don't call themselves human when they are in skin) secondary (they only have sex in skin though) and it makes for some really interesting dynamics and fun piss taking of humans and some of our habits! They also make a distinction between 'wolves' who are ruled by the moon and 'shifters' who are not. It's a new fav series, and perhaps the most fascinating shifter series I've ever read, and I can't wait for the finale to be released next year.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 156 comments Carolyn wrote: "Hey Book Bestie (@kittykat-aka-jo-tortitude),
Did I read you are more into cat shifters? I don't believe I read a pnr with a cat shifter. What would you recommend for a beginner cat shifting reader?"

Hey bestie! Ooh, so many!

First, questions. Do you want the start of a long series, or a short series or novella length? Do you mind the middle of a series? High or medium heat? Felines only or are mixed species with a lot of felines ok?

Robin (rockin_robin) | 81 comments There are lots of pnr with various animals--Zoe Chant does some hot pnr with various animals. Shelley Laurenston did a series of various types of paranormals that had a lot of humor.

Feline specific series that I've enjoyed would be
The Lion's Pride series by Eve Langlais:
When an Alpha Purrs

Celia Kyle's Ridgeville series: He Ain't Lion

These are the ones I can think of that I enjoyed but I'm looking forward to Bestie's recommendations, too

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 156 comments Carolyn wrote: "Long series is great. Novella aren't my thing. My ocd would kick in so I would probably start in the start of the eries. OOO High lol Either one or both works for me :)"

Ok Cool! I hear you re; starting a series at the beginning - it is a very rare thing for me to do otherwise, and usually because I'm not interested in the rest of the series! Even more reason to be book besties lol!

Hey, Robin, I second the Celia Kyle series (I also enjoyed her bear shifter one too) as I really enjoyed that too, but you have highlighted one that I don't recall hearing about before with the Eve Langlais so thanks!

Robin wrote: "There are lots of pnr with various animals--Zoe Chant does some hot pnr with various animals. Shelley Laurenston did a series of various types of paranormals that had a lot of humor."

Yes to Zoe Chant - although I've not read much of theirs yet and none of the feline ones. But what I have read, I've enjoyed.

And Shelley Laurenston is the QUEEN IMO. I would def say that her series covers a multitude of different animals (incl the wild honey badgers!), but there are a good amount of different felines there - lions, tigers and a couple of feline/other animal hybrids! If you are interested in busting a gut laughing at crazy, campy, chaotic and totally OTT shenanigans I would highly recommend her. To get a taste of her style before you dive into her shifter world ( 3 series listed in the full reading order here, one that follows another that whilst don't have to read like that, I think are far better because of how she writes), you could try this one which is in KU
My Kind of Town (The Long Island Coven #1) by Shelly Laurenston .

I will say that this is far from my fav of hers, her writing has improved tons since this one and it has more sex than the majority of what I've read of hers so far, but it will give you a very good idea of whether her humour and storytelling works for you as she has a very strong signature 'style'.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 156 comments So here goes;

A Cat for Troy (Wishes & Dreams, #3) by Allie McCormack I've only read this one and that was because the FMC is a HOUSE CAT shifter! You don't see many of these.

Chasing Savannah by Dria Andersen The Friend Contract (Hamilton Brothers #1) by Dria Andersen The Alpha's Affair (Hamilton Brothers #2) by Dria Andersen Despite it not being included in the series link on GR, the first book is in the same world and is a MFM and they are all felines.
Surrender to the Moonlight (The Georgia Arcane Series, #1) by Dria Andersen and this one by the same author is the start of a new series and is felines and wolves (and a curse!)
These are all on KU.

Jungle Rapture (The Jaguar Queens, #1) by M.A. Jewell Jungle Salvation (The Jaguar Queens, #2) by M.A. Jewell these are Jaguars and this is set in Brazil which makes a nice change. The first is short, but is necessary to get the context of book 2 which is full length.

Diaries of an Urban Panther (Diaries of an Urban Panther #1) by Amanda Arista Claws and Effect (Diaries of an Urban Panther, #2) by Amanda Arista Nine Lives of an Urban Panther (Diaries of an Urban Panther #3) by Amanda Arista and this is a trilogy of the same characters which has been recently re-released with these new covers
Diaries of an Urban Panther by Amanda Arista Claws and Effect by Amanda Arista Nine Lives of an Urban Panther by Amanda Arista book 1 is currently 77p in kindle.

Beastly Desires (The Verochka Pride #1) by Nikki Winter Beastly Passions (The Verochka Pride #2) by Nikki Winter these are tigers. book 1 is in KU, not sure why but book 3 seems to be unavailable.

Secrets (Fierce Hearts #1) by Lynn Crandall Cravings (Fierce Hearts #2) by Lynn Crandall Heartfelt (Fierce Hearts #3) by Lynn Crandall Probabilities (Fierce Hearts #4) by Lynn Crandall Unstoppable (Fierce Hearts #5) by Lynn Crandall these are lynx's and have also been given new covers but the first two are whitewashed so I'm not going to link them. There is an overarching plot that runs throughout the series even though they are all different couples. Also, I've not read the couple of short stories listed in the series. Book 1 is also on KU.

Nightfall (Dark Age Dawning, #1) by Ellen Connor Midnight (Dark Age Dawning, #2) by Ellen Connor Daybreak (Dark Age Dawning, #3) by Ellen Connor book 1 is not really a shifter story but book 2 and 3 are. This is a post apocalyptic trilogy - well book 3 is well in the future so dystopian.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 156 comments Pride Mates (Shifters Unbound, #1) by Jennifer Ashley And one of my favs and one of the few traditionally published ones. This is a loooong series with lots of novellas in between (still worth reading!) so I'm not going to link them all, and has an overarching plot which is the main thing that attracted me.

Most of the shifters are felines (if I recall rightly), but there are also a number of wolves and bears BUT one thing that makes this one different is that it is also intertwined with the Fae world including some Fae characters and it has lots of lore and politics to it and covers multiple different locations.

There is an origin story novella that gives the backstory, but that and the first couple of books in the series are a bit rough writing wise, but again, I love the overall plot. I personally don't like some of the romances (which is funny because around the same time, this author wrote one of my first and favourite historical romances! The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie, but that is not a problem for me because the things I do love about it make it worthwhile for me.

Sorry for inundating you lol! One of my fav things to do is rec books and especially lesser-known and mostly indie ones. There are of course many other much more well known ones, but I don't always read those and most people automatically discuss them so I'm sure you will come across them at some point.

I wrote reviews on some of them, so if you want to know my thoughts on any of these in particular, as we are GR friends you will see whatever review I wrote when you click on the individual book.

Lone Tiger And Cub by Lizzie Lynn Lee That Time She Broke Her Viking's Curse by Erin St. Charles And I know that you prefer longer books, but I also have a ton of shorter ones that I think are well worth trying including these two cute standalones - the second one is not really a shifter as there is a curse involved, but the character is another rare housecat!

Also this huge world Damon’s Mountains Universe by one of the authors I mentioned in my wolf post above, is one of the most diverse in terms of the numbers of different animal types but it takes a while to get to the felines. It's also 10 different series (but they are shorter books) that follow on from another and like the Shifters Unbound, covers a series-long plot.

OK, I'm done!!!
