Allison (sockweasel) What are you currently reading?

How is it? Would you recommend it?

message 2: by Brandie (new)

Brandie (brandiemichelle) i just finished Divorce Party by Laura Dave. It was cute and a quick read if that's what you're looking for. I enjoyed it. I'm about to start Queen of Babble Gets Hitched by Meg Cabot - I'm sure I'll enjoy it because I love most of Cabot's books. What kind of stuff do you like?

message 3: by Allison (new)

Allison (sockweasel) Glad you liked Divorce Party, sounds like it was a cute read! I will have to check out more of Cabot's books. I really liked The Boy Next Door, it was very cute.

Right now I'm reading P.S. I Love You by Cecilia Ahern. So far I am really enjoying it. I loved the movie too.

message 4: by Emily (new)

Emily (teaandscribbles) | 8 comments I just finished The Little Lady Agency and the Prince. I really enjoyed the whole of the three books, but don't think it would stand well by itself.
Next up is Me vs Me.

message 5: by Denise (last edited Aug 28, 2008 01:47PM) (new)

Denise (deniseg53) | 3 comments I just finished The Condition by Jennifer Haigh. It was terrific. I also read two by Jonathan Tropper last week, The Book of Joe and How to Talk to a Widower, that were very good.

Ashley (bookworm84) (bookworm84) I'm reading "Looking for Peyton Place" by Barbara Delinsky. I don't know if I'd classify it as chick lit though :)

message 7: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 30 comments I am new to this group, but I just finished The Second Wives Club by Jane Moore.

I started The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks this morning.

message 8: by Liz (new)

Liz | 17 comments I just finished Sweet Love By Sarah Strohmeyer and am reading Sleeping Arrangements by Madeleine Wickham. I enjoyed them both.

message 9: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 11 comments I'm reading LoveHampton by Sherri Rifkin. I'm about halfway through and it's pretty good.

message 10: by Diane (new)

Diane | 20 comments I'm almost done reading "pride & prejudice". I'd seen the BBC miniseries & the feature film but never got around to reading the book until now. It's pretty cool how close the dialogue in the mini-series is to the actual book.

message 11: by Jen B (new)

Jen B (jennybee618) I just finished When In Rome by Gemma Townley yesterday. It was cute, but not her best. Some good, light reading for the day off, though! :)Then I started Questions to Ask Before Marrying by Melissa Senate last night...very cute so far.

message 12: by Beth (new)

Beth (izzysmum) | 6 comments I am reading What Remains: A Memoir of Fate, Friendship, and Love by Carole Radziwill.

I am only about 50 pages in, but I am interested so far. What a sad story...Has anyone read it? What did you think??

message 13: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (mac\u0026chip) (macchip) | 2 comments I just finished "Something Blue." I think I am going to start "Alphabet Weekend" next.

message 14: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 30 comments I am reading Jane Green's The Other Woman. Only 3 chapters in but I like it. I like all her books.

Just finished Jennifer Weiner's Little Earthquakes which I would recommend.

message 15: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (familywithbooks) | 53 comments I just finished Me vs. Me by Sarah Mylnowski which I always recommend. I'm digging around my bookshelf to find what to read next!

message 16: by Collette (new)

Collette (vwbernie) | 16 comments I'm in the middle of The Funeral Planner by Lynn Isenberg. It's a Red Dress Ink book about a woman that strives to be an entrepreneur but everytime she starts a business someone steals the idea. Finally she goes to a very impersonal funeral and decides to start a business that makes them more personal and memorable.
It's a cute book but not as funny as some of the RDI books I've read. Great story though and I even found myself with a tear in my eye in a couple of parts.

message 17: by Yolibear (new)

Yolibear (queendiva0331) | 6 comments I am currently reading Queen of Babble. I love it but I just can't seem to find the time to read this week. Its taking me longer than any other Meg Cabot book. Next I have 2 Jane Greens I want to read :)

message 18: by Yolibear (new)

Yolibear (queendiva0331) | 6 comments I totally loved Me vs. Me... it was a cute ending... I really intend to read more by her.

message 19: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 30 comments Currently reading The Time Traveler's Wife. I am about 160 pages in and I am so engrossed in it that I want to bring it in to work and read under my desk.

message 20: by Krista (new)

Krista (findyourshimmy) Allison,

I recently listened to Rosie Dunn on audio by Cecilia Ahern. It was fantastic!

message 21: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (familywithbooks) | 53 comments I was in Borders yesterday and even though I'm in the middle of reading Shopaholic and Baby (put it down and can't pick it up), re-reading The Devil Wears Prada, and muddling through The Starter Wife I just bought How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls - I fell in love with the show Privileged and it was based off of this book. Once The Starter Wife is done (I have to return it to my sister) then this is my book!

message 22: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 30 comments Kourtney-I love that show. I didn't know it was based off a book. Now I need to get that.

I am reading my first Marian Keyes book- Anybody Out there?

message 23: by Jen B (new)

Jen B (jennybee618) Ashley, that's by far my favorite Marian Keyes book - and I absolutely love her books! Some of her other books are about the other Walsh sisters (Rachel's Holiday, Watermelon, I think there may be another). I recommend those, too!

I'm reading the newest Emily Giffin book, Love the One You're With. Liking it so far, but I've read some very negative reviews of it. Hoping it doesn't take a bad turn...

message 24: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 30 comments Jen-Thanks. I read Love The One You're With. I liked it, but it isn't as good as Something Borrowed/Blue.

message 25: by Meghann (new)

Meghann | 6 comments I'm currently reading Mind Are Spectacular. I'm really enjoying it and I have Me vs. Me from the library to read next.

message 26: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (familywithbooks) | 53 comments Ashley - you can find the book as either "How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls" or the newly re-titled "Privileged." LOVE IT!!!! I snuck a sneak peek at the first chapter and I can't finish The Starter Wife fast enough!!

message 27: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 30 comments I am going to look for it then.

message 28: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 2 comments I'm reading HANDBAGS & HOMICIDE by Dorothy Howell. It is hysterical. I highly recommend it.

Stephanie

message 29: by Brandie (new)

Brandie (brandiemichelle) I'm also reading Jane Green's The Other Woman. So far it's pretty good. First Jane Green book for me...she seems pretty popular, so I wanted to give her a shot.

message 30: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (angelashly) | 30 comments Brandie- That was one of my favorites from Jane Green. I really like her.

message 31: by Brandie (new)

Brandie (brandiemichelle) Now I'm reading Baby Proof by Emily Giffin. I love her stuff! She's one of my favorite authors now. I'm also about to pick up the second book in the Twilight series. They have sucked me in.

message 32: by Jen B (new)

Jen B (jennybee618) Brandie, I'm sucked into Twilight, too! I'm reading the first one now and I can't seem to stop! :) I love Emily Giffin, too. Baby Proof is the only one of hers I haven't read...I think my favorite of hers is Love the One You're With.

message 33: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (familywithbooks) | 53 comments I'm too scared to start the Twilight series as I'm addicted to Harry Potter as it is (and I have the urge to reread all 7 again but am trying to wait until the holiday's as school rears it's ugly head). For now I'm back to reading an old favorite "Remember Me" by Sophie Kinsella. Been there done that so it is easy to put her book to the side when homework comes calling. My "to-read" list is growing daily!! Yikes!

message 34: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 1 comments I'm reading the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. All the fuss about this book is true. It's an easy read and you get really involved with the characters. I'm going to hate leaving them behind when I'm done.

message 35: by Becca (new)

Becca (becca2) | 16 comments Kathy: I finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society a while ago, and I so miss the characters. I read the book while I spent two weeks without power after Hurricane Ike and was cleaning up our property. It seemed to make the book resonate even more with me.

TWILIGHT readers: I took my daughter back in May to meet Stephenie Meyer. There were thousands of people there. It was crazy, but it got me interested in the books. I've read them all, and would love to have a discussion sometime after you all have read the whole series. I'm headed out tonight for the midnight release of the movie with my daughter. I think I just might be insane. ;-)

message 36: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (familywithbooks) | 53 comments To all the Twilight readers - is it just as addicting as Harry Potter?

message 37: by Jen B (new)

Jen B (jennybee618) Kourtney - I just finished Twilight last night, and I liked it a lot. It was a quick read for me, and I definitely found it addictive. I had the book with me at work yesterday so I could read at lunch, and I actually spent about 10 minutes hiding behind my office door and reading so I could finish a chapter I didn't get to finish at lunch. :) I'll definitely be buying the others, because now I have to see how the series ends.

That said, I don't think it's quite as good as Harry Potter. The imagination and creativity of Harry is what I loved so much about that series...and Twilight isn't quite on par with that.

message 38: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (familywithbooks) | 53 comments It's so funny that you said that you hid at work so you could read Jen! Just yesterday I had to arrange things in my cubicle so I could have "Remember Me" open on my desk while pretending to work. I managed to read 100 pages and finish the book (thank goodness I read fast!)

Ashley (bookworm84) (bookworm84) I found it more addicting. I've never read four books faster in my life!!

Twilight is like a drug to me. lol I just keep needing more!!! haha

message 40: by Becca (last edited Nov 24, 2008 02:02PM) (new)

Becca (becca2) | 16 comments Yes, the Twilight books are addictive. No, they are not quite on par with the Harry Potter series. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks of the final book of the Twilight series.

message 41: by Brandie (new)

Brandie (brandiemichelle) I finished Twilight and LOVED it. And I saw the movie this past weekend, and it was awesome. I'm reading the second book, which is a little slower. But I'm still enjoying it.

message 42: by Meghann (new)

Meghann | 6 comments i'm reading tales of a drama queen and it's hilarious! i recommend it to everyone.

message 43: by Kourtney (new)

Kourtney (familywithbooks) | 53 comments Oooohhh I love Tales of a Drama Queen!! The follow up True Lies of a Drama Queen (or something to that effect) is another great one!

message 44: by Meghann (new)

Meghann | 6 comments i just finished it last night and absolutely loved it. i'll have to check out the follow up to it. thanks!

message 45: by IUHoosier (new)

IUHoosier | 4 comments I just finished Christina Dodd's Darkness Chosen series - they were ok, but didn't keep me enthralled. I've started rereading Katherine Neville's THE EIGHT now. I read it the first time nearly two decades ago, so I'm anxious to see if it meets my remembered expectations. And I need the refresher to tackle her new one, THE FIRE. Has anyone read it yet?

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading Bridget Jones's Diary right now. It's a nice light read! And super funny!

message 47: by Becky (new)

Becky I'm reading The Wedding from Danielle Steele. I really like it but it is long and kind of repetetive, but I started reading it because my grandmother gave it to me since I am getting married. Allegra reminds me of me a little.

message 48: by Brandie (new)

Brandie (brandiemichelle) I have never gotten into Danielle Steele books and I feel like I'm missing out. She's such a popular author and I think I've only read 2 of her books in my lifetime. Now I'm reading Beach House by Jane Green. Anyone read that one yet?? I'm really enjoying it although it's kind of depressing with certain story lines.

message 49: by Liz (new)

Liz | 17 comments I just started Beach House by Jane Green. So many characters to keep up with.

message 50: by Jen B (new)

Jen B (jennybee618) I'm reading One for the Money, the first book in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. I'm flying through it -- it's hilarious!
