I've noticed that a lot of people mention blogs on GR. I just started mine, but seriously have never even read a single blog... I'm kind of struggling on what I should put on it...
So, here are my questions...

What makes you want to read a blog?
What are some good blogs that you follow? Why do you follow them?

and... anything else blog related. lol

sonya marie madden | 441 comments I'd like to put book reviews on mine. Would that be like plagurism though? .
I blog on topics going on in my life.

message 3: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 441 comments my friends' blogs because I love those people, one on signing an electronic book? and how technology has changed publishing.
I do read blogs in selfharm because I have done this behavior. It helps get my feelings out, even if no one comments.

message 4: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) I have my own blog as well. I mainly do book reviews on mine. I'm working on fixing it up a bit right now and trying to figure out what exactly keeps people coming back. I've been thinking of switching over to blogspot but I can't come up with another blog name right now.

I personally like blogs that deal in books of course, and those that have a little personal flair are very nice.

Lisa | 617 comments One of my favorite Google apps is Google Reader, where I can file all the blogs I like to keep up with on a semi daily basis. It's fantastic! However, my list of blogs I read may be getting out of control. Here are some of my favorite book related blogs:

The best piece of advice I can think of is to make sure you write blog posts, at least, two - three times a week. If you don't post often enough people get bored and stop checking your blog. Since the blogs I read are mostly in my reader I delete the ones that haven't kept up on posting.

So far, I haven't done much with my blog. I love to write. Emailing, ŷ, Facebook, writing a book... all come naturally to me, but the blog doesn't. It might be that I never paid much attention to them. (sigh)

message 8: by Thalia (last edited Jun 02, 2011 10:15PM) (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) This particular blog is for my book reviews. That's why I got a GoodReads in the first place.

When I'm looking for blogs to follow (on this account), I look for blogs dedicated to books. You see a lot of reblogs of photography and quotes involving books on my blog, in addition to my reviews.

message 9: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) If you're just starting a blog, tumblr is the place to go. It's the easiest to use and you don't have to necessarily fill it with all your own stuff; you can reblog photos or quotes you agree with or things you like from other blogs, and users get a sense of what you like and who you are from those, as well as your own posts and photos.

Emma Lou (rubyeskimo) | 14 comments I have had a few blogs before but now i finally have one that focuses on books but I do weekly posts about my life too.

message 11: by Alex (new)

Alex Sinclair I run a big book blog site. I say big because I host the popular, Book of the Month, which had over 20,000 hits and 980 votes last month. I feature different authors every single day and pretty much every other day we have a giveaway contest. This month we have got some best selling kindle authors guest blogging on the site. It is a good place to get free reads and learn about great books.

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 199 comments I just finished "The Art of Saying Goodbye: A Novel" by Ellyn Bache, and I've posted my review here:

My friend and I originally wanted to run a book blog but she bailed on me so I'm on my own on this. :)

message 13: by sonya (new)

message 15: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (bookishevents) My blog is mostly book reviews with some tv and movie reviews.

I thought it might be neat though because promoting the blog is so much work to start linking up reviews of the same book in linkys sort of a sharing traffic kind of idea. I also thought it might be nice to have a resource for information on hops, challenges linkys and etc. So I set up a yahoo group, like I'm still putting it together and haven't invited members setting up to kind of be able to get promotion updates. If anyone would be interested in that sort of thing that blogs that can be found here

I'm setting it up as a strictly no chat group, just info and having moderated posting to make sure that happens. I don't want for it to be a flood your inbox group filled with conversations, that's what forums and places like goodreads are for, to chat and talk, I just thought an email sort of group with members sharing info would be a quicker resource to help build and promote blogs.

My friend and I had planned how we're supposed to run the book blog but she recently got a new job and had no time to read or review. So I'm running the site on my own. It's very new and I hope I can continue it. :)

It will have pretty much what I've said on the sticky post. Reviews, reader guides, and anything book-related.

message 17: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shadowrose) I subscribed to yours Cate :)

Cate (The Professional Fangirl) (chaostheory08) | 199 comments Hello guys! Just a favor... I have a blogroll page on my blog. If you guys have book blogs as well, kindly leave a comment on that page with your blog name and URL and I will add you to the list.

Thanks! <3

Michelle (shadowrose) I've changed my blog around since I last posted the link, I think it looks much better now. But if you guys have suggestions let me know.

message 21: by Keryl (new)

Keryl Raist (kerylraist) | 66 comments I run a small book/self publishing blog. It's about 75% reviews of indie books and 25% self publishing information.

If you're interested in in depth critical reviews of books you've probably never heard of, it's a good place to visit.

message 22: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen Valentine I've been blogging for six years and blog nearly every day. I post book reviews, promote indie authors, ramble on about various things that flit through my brain, post knitting designs & patterns, recipes, -- basically whatever I'm thinking about at the time.

I run a blog reviewing YA and fantasy book in particular. If anybody is interested then you can find it here:

I've just posted my first Waiting on Wednesday post! :)

message 26: by Amy (new)

Amy I'm fairly new to blogging. I started mine in June of this year, and I love it. It is centered around books...reviews, opinions, research, my life...just how books play a role in my day to day life.

It's called I Ponder the Page

I also love reading blogs and I've got some great ones listed in my blog roll...one of my favorite's is called Susie's Blog.

message 27: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Bloging can be good or horrible depending on wether you are just blustering on your own personal views of the world. Or whether you are talking about an interesting and informative subject. If you are hipping people to something interesting or open up a disscusion where other people can offer keen insights. That's would be a good blog. Some people just ramble on about their religeous and political views, or whatever. That is your self indulgent boring type blog. So you want a blog that is interesting, and which other people can make interesting comments about.

message 29: by Hayley (last edited Aug 18, 2011 12:33AM) (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) I need a blog to make me amused - some slight comedic outlook on regular day life that just makes me go 'know how you feel about that'.
Or a good book review blog that can point me in the right way of something new to read (though not at the moment, please, I have too many to read!)

I personally just randomly blog for the sake of it - I actually started it to relieve frustrations and make it look like I was actually doing something worklike on my computer at my old job ;D I don't expect followers or comments that much - but I did recently decide to try out reviewing books (total beginner, not too drastically bad).

So yeah, if you have a few hours spare - I make no promises -

Still love people to get my book:

Julia Anderson (julia_anderson) | 1 comments I blog on Wordpress and now here as an author. Blogging not only express your opinions on a topic but a way to gather others opinion. There is no wrong or right in posting a blog it's like a sound-off. You vent on a blog or you can just give a review. Most author's blog to inform the public or there followers on topics they feel important enough to express. I write books for children with a moral twist. I am also very politically involved so most of my views are on the direction of our country.

message 37: by Chris (new)

Chris Galford (galfordc) What makes me want to read a blog? Well, it's terribly simplistic, but: a theme that interests me. I tend to go to blogs looking for other fantasy or sci-fi writers, blogs on writing in general, book reviews, what have you. Photography's also a favorite. The important thing, though, is establishing yourself as a knowledgeable and intelligent explorer of certain topics. People will recognize that, hopefully, and come looking to you for it. It's also a plus to find writers that actively engage their community - it's not as common as you might suppose.

I myself maintain a wordpress blog, dedicated to my poetry, upcoming novel, and writing in general:

Always looking to connect/network with new folks, so feel free to swing by or shoot me a message.

Alex S (sheehanigans) I have been keeping a blog since moving abroad in order to keep my friends and family in the loop. It seems recently I have attracted some new random readers. Blogging is really growing on me and I have thought about doing book reviews, but I think I'd rather be reading books than spending the time to write about them ;)
