Callie,
To the extent that the Roswell story is true, Alien Affairs retells it faithfully in the first two chapters. From there it steps forward in time and postulates what the big secret was, still punctuated with popular lore concerning how various presidents were or were not involved. When the story arrives at a time only slightly in the future, it plays out on the stage of current events.
You met MUFON members? That makes you a sort of celebrity. That's pretty cool. I wonder how they would view Alien Affairs.

I am currently promoting my new novel on Kindle Scout. Read an excerpt and nominate it for publication through Amazon. Here is the link:

The best advice I can offer is: join the groundswell of the self-publishing industry. I recently met a writer who tried to find a publisher for twenty-two years before he finally got a break and he is still having to do his own promotion. If you are fortunate enough to have twenty-two years left in you, do you really want to wait that long to get published? If you are afraid of stigma, get over it. Self-publishing is the future.

I've never suffered writer's block. I consider writing to be work, and when it gets tough, I just work harder. Now, having said that, at this time I'm taking medication that has turned my brain into mush so I think writing would be a waste of good kilobytes. Fortunately, my doctors, who don't look old enough to drive let alone practice medicine, tell me that I should be normal again in a couple of months, so stand by for updates.

The best thing about being a writer is getting validation. When somebody takes the time to tell you that they loved your book, you go straight to the moon. All my books have received positive feedback but the readers of Golden State Blues (save one miscreant) are raving about it. The size of my head is embarrassing.

It's all about source material. Once you find something interesting you must then become an expert on the topic. Only after I feel sufficiently padded with facts am I inspired to write.
My first and second, Family Traits and In the Blood, were the result of fifteen years of genealogical research. I wasn't just inspired, I had to write those stories. While doing research for In the Blood I discovered a fact about the relatively obscure Mexican-American War that gave me an intriguing idea, and that was the genesis of The Hundred Years Farce. Then I was stumped until I found a folder in the garage filled with yellow crumbling newspaper clippings from 1985 about the discovery of the grave of Nazi fugitive, Josef Mengele. I waited thirty-five years to write Face of the Angel.

Golden State Blues was inspired by the socio-political train wreck that the United States—and California in particular—has become. I based it in the little town of Claremont, California, which is a couple miles from my home, because it is a bastion of liberal and politically correct thinking. Golden State Blues runs roughshod over political correctness and tweaks the noses of politicians, bureaucrats, and public servants. Plus, it contains a healthy dose of vitriol aimed at the irritating, rude, dangerous and downright boneheaded people I see on the streets every time I leave the house.
I suppose by its very nature I limited my audience to no more than thirty percent of the population, but I want to tell you, I had more fun writing Blues than anything else I've ever written.`
