Hi Sarah! Thank you so much! :)

Inspiration is kind of a weird thing; I'm not sure where it comes from or that it's ever just one thing, you know?

In the case of the G&G series, it was a couple of things. My sister was in high school at the time and I really wanted to write something I thought she would enjoy. Plus, I was reading a lot of YA at the time (the market was just starting to explode back in '06/07) and it was so much fun, I wanted to try it.

Fun fact: a lot of the details in the G&G books, particularly the first one, are based on my high school experience. For example, the gym uniform that Alona wears is what we were required to wear in high school. And the cafetorium is a real thing!

In fact, the first book was SO much based on my own experience of high school that I forgot a very important detail. When my sister read the first draft, she said, "It's great. I love it! But where are all the cell phones?"

In attempting to recreate high school, I'd forgotten to account for the technology change! :D So every cell phone mention in the first book was added in later, post-first-draft. (I went to high school in the '90s when cell phones were huge and expensive, usually owned by dads.)

As for Will and Alona specifically...well, that's a bit different!
I keep a writing journal where I write snippets of things that float through my head. One day, it was something like, "Staring up at the undercarriage was a sucky way to spend your afterlife." And from that I figured out that whoever was talking was a girl, she was dead, and kind of a b*tch. :D That was the start of Alona. I knew she had a problem, but I didn't know what it was yet. Will showed up not long after that!

Thank you for reading the G&G books! I'm so glad you enjoyed them.

All my best,
Stacey

P.S. If you haven't already, I hope you'll consider checking out my other series, Project Paper Doll! :) The first two books, The Rules and The Hunt are out already with the third coming out in April. Ariane and Zane are not Will and Alona, but I hope you'll get a kick out of knowing them too! (less)

Hi Carly!
Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed the series! I had so much fun writing them! :D

Unfortunately, no, there won't be any more G&G books. It was planned as a trilogy from the beginning, and I'm pleased to have had the opportunity to complete the story. However, publishing is a business and they make determinations based on sales, and those numbers just aren't high enough to justify additional books. Which sucks, but I completely understand.

That being said, I did write a short story follow up that takes place after Body & Soul, just to give a little more info on Will and Alona's future. :) You can read it here on my Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ blog: /author_blog...

At the risk of being TOO self-promotional, I hope you'll consider giving my new series, Project Paper Doll, a try! :) The first two books, The Rules and The Hunt, are out now. The third will be coming out next year. Ariane and Zane are definitely not Alona and Will, but there's romance and chase scenes and humor! Plus, the mean girl gets covered in shaving cream pies--how can you go wrong with that? :D

Thank you so much for reading my books! And for taking the time to submit a question! :)(less)

“She shrugged and flipped her glossy hair behind her shoulders. "What else do you have to do with your time besides think about stuff like this? It's not like you're real heavy into extracurriculars. Besides, you're all, like, goth and into the dead, right?"
Alona Dare, queen of the insult-compliment. "Wow. Thanks. Anyone ever tell you you're good with people?"
She frowned. "No."
"Good. I'm not goth."
"Your hair is black, you have piercings, you wear black all the time and act all freaky-"
"My hair is naturally this color. I have three earings in one ear, that's it. This shirt" -I tugged at the fabric across my chest- "is navy blue, and if I act weird all the time, it's because of ghosts like you.”

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

goodreads summary-Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story...

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn’t expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

goodreads summary-Chloe Saunders sees dead people. Yes, like in the films. The problem is, in real life saying you see ghosts gets you a one-way ticket to the psych ward. But then her room mate disappears after confessing she has a poltergeist, and some of the other patients also seem to be manifesting paranormal behaviour. Could that be a coincidence? The Ghost and the Goth by Stacey Kade

goodreads summary-Alona Dare–Senior in high school, co-captain of the cheerleading squad, Homecoming Queen three years in a row, voted most likely to marry a movie star and newly dead.

I’m the girl you hated in high school. Is it my fault I was born with it all-good looks, silky blond hair, a hot bod, and a keen sense of what everyone else should not be wearing? But my life isn’t perfect, especially since I died. Run over by a bus of band geeks—is there anything more humiliating? As it turns out, yes—watching your boyfriend and friends move on with life, only days after your funeral. And you wouldn’t believe what they’re saying about me now that they think I can’t hear them. To top it off, I’m starting to disappear, flickering in and out of existence. I don’t know where I go when I’m gone, but it’s not good. Where is that freaking white light already?

Will Killian–Senior in high school, outcast, dubbed “Will Kill by the popular crowd for the unearthly aura around him, voted most likely to rob a bank…and a ghost-talker.

I can see, hear, and touch the dead. Unfortunately, they can also see, hear and touch me. Yeah, because surviving high school isn’t hard enough already. I’ve done my best to hide my “gift. After all, my dad, who shared my ability, killed himself because of it when I was fifteen. But lately, pretending to be normal has gotten a lot harder. A new ghost—an anonymous, seething cloud of negative energy with the capacity to throw me around—is pursuing me with a vengeance. My mom, who knows nothing about what I can do, is worrying about the increase in odd incidents, my shrink is tossing around terms like “temporary confinement for psychiatric evaluation, and my principal, who thinks I’m a disruption and a faker, is searching for every way possible to get rid of me. How many weeks until graduation?

Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin

goodreads summary-Welcome to Elsewhere. It is warm, with a breeze, and the beaches are marvelous. It’s quiet and peaceful. You can’t get sick or any older. Curious to see new paintings by Picasso? Swing by one of Elsewhere’s museums. Need to talk to someone about your problems? Stop by Marilyn Monroe’s psychiatric practice.
Elsewhere is where fifteen-year-old Liz Hall ends up, after she has died. It is a place so like Earth, yet completely different. Here Liz will age backward from the day of her death until she becomes a baby again and returns to Earth. But Liz wants to turn sixteen, not fourteen again. She wants to get her driver’s license. She wants to graduate from high school and go to college. And now that she’s dead, Liz is being forced to live a life she doesn’t want with a grandmother she has only just met. And it is not going well. How can Liz let go of the only life she has ever known and embrace a new one? Is it possible that a life lived in reverse is no different from a life lived forward?
This moving, often funny book about grief, death, and loss will stay with the reader long after the last page is turned.

See Me by Lauralynn Elliott

goodreads summary-When Maddi Drake inherits an old house from her great aunt, she decides to move in and fix it up. But it seems she isn't quite alone there. Then she meets the perfect man...so she thinks. But someone in the house disagrees.

This novella combines a little mystery, a little humor, and a little romance for a quick, entertaining read.

Excerpt:

Feeling frightened now, but knowing she had to see what was down there, she turned on the lights like she had done the night before and went cautiously down the stairs. The glow was coming from the parlor again. She walked in, only to find that the glow had disappeared as it had last night. She felt uneasy in the dark, but she didn’t turn on the light switch just yet. She waited in the dark to see if anything brushed against her like it did last night. She was scared, but she wanted to find out if it was her imagination or not. Then she felt it. Not anything brushing against her this time, but something almost like a soft breath on the back of her neck. She shivered. Her first impulse was to run for the light switch. But there was also a sense of curiosity that she couldn’t deny. She was frightened and fascinated at the same time. She waited there in the darkness for something else to happen. She felt it again, that slight stirring of air at her neck that felt like someone breathing lightly on her. Suddenly, she couldn’t stand it anymore. She rushed to the light switch and flipped it on, twirling around to look at the spot where she was standing. There was no one there. She hadn’t really expected to see anything or anybody. But she knew something had happened.

She started to turn and go out of the room, but she saw something out of the corner of her eye. She turned back and faced where she had been standing earlier. There on the floor was a scrap of paper. She knew it hadn’t been there before. She cautiously walked toward the paper, and then stooped to pick it up. There on the paper were two words. See me.

“Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.”
E.L. Doctorow, Writers At Work: The Paris Review Interviews, 2nd Series

“Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.”
Ira Glass

“I am trying to see things in perspective. My dog wants a bite of my peanut butter chocolate chip bagel. I know she cannot have this, because chocolate makes dogs very sick. My dog does not understand this. She pouts and wraps herself around my leg like a scarf and purrs and tries to convince me to give her just a tiny bit. When I do not give in, she eventually gives up and lays in the corner, under the piano, drooping and sad. I hope the universe has my best interest in mind like I have my dog’s. When I want something with my whole being, and the universe withholds it from me, I hope the universe thinks to herself: "Silly girl. She thinks this is what she wants, but she does not understand how it will hurt.”

Hi! Unfortunately, I don't know when it'll be in bookstores in the Philippines--I hope it will be soon! :) But if you want it right away, I know The Book Depository has it and and they will ship for free to the Philippines.

Here's the link if you're interested:

Book three, the final book in the trilogy, will be out in 2012, as far as I know. Should have more details soon!

Thanks for reading! :)

All my best,
Stacey
