Sooty-Foot came out first BUT (and this was a big but) they had never sent me a contract AND they released the printing without a blue line for my approval. Normally, this would not have been an unsurmountable problem BUT (there's that word again) they had the illustrations out of order AND there were typos. Sooty-Foot was pulled from the shelves and destroyed. Penguin and I begin discussions in earnest to revert the rights and Puddle Pines was never printed. All that said, the Puddle Pine Paddle Whackers and Sooty-Foot will be released in January. Personalized autographs will be available from stephencosgrove.com. (less)

SOS, the song of the sea

I wrote SOS because I was troubled by all of the whale and porpoise beachings I had been reading about in the news... troubled because I couldn't understand why it was happening. The ensuing literary journey led me to a story about our environment narrated from a unique perspective, the creatures of the sea (whales, dolphins and others).
A whale, Harmony, is the initial voice of the novel, followed Read more of this blog post »

“So when you're cold
From the inside out
And don't know what to do,
Remember love and friendship,
And warmth will come to you.”
Stephen Cosgrove, The Gnome from Nome

“Never judge someone
By the way he looks
Or a book by the way it's covered;
For inside those tattered pages,
There's a lot to be discovered”
Stephen Cosgrove

“As you walk through forests
or the meadows of your mind,
Stop and talk to those you fear
Good friendships you may find”
Stephen Cosgrove, Buttermilk Bear

“The skill, the art of literacy is a gift. To read is to watch in your mind as a single word explodes into a confetti of images. Truly, of all the gifts given to man, reading is most sacred, For from words come dreams and from dreams come great tomorrows.”
Stephen Cosgrove
