Tim Johnston is the author of the novels THE CURRENT and DESCENT, the story collection IRISH GIRL, and the YA novel NEVER SO GREEN. A New York Times, USA Today, and Indie national bestseller, Descent has been published internationally and optioned for film. The stories of Irish Girl won an O. Henry Prize, the New Letters Award for Writers, and the Gival Press Short Story Award, while the collection itself won the 2009 Katherine Anne Porter Prize in Short Fiction. In 2005 the title story, “Irish Girl,� was included in the David Sedaris anthology of favorites, Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules. I just finished reading Descent. Bravo! You completely drew me in with your exceptional writing. You were spot-on with the emotional aspect of your characters. The answer is, I hope to have a new book out by 2017, and it will be in a similar vein as Descent, in that it will be a story about a number of characters brought together--as opposed to torn apart--by random acts of violence & one old, unsolved murder. I don't have a question. I just wanted to tell you how much I love "The Current." I just read it for the second the time (the 1st time was about 2 years ago). Thank you for writing such a beautiful novel! I'm not sure how to articulate this other to say that you characters are so real and you manage to convey heart wrenching events, and life experiences, with very clear, moving, and uncomplicated language. How?

No question; just so thankful to have discovered your writing. Since reading The Descent, I’ve been hooked. You write beautifully, poetically yet not pretentiously. (I wouldn’t have imagined I’d be moved by a description of someone peeling potatoes, but you’ve done it in Distant Sons). You engage the senses; you convey a realness and often a quiet sadness in your characters. The effect is powerful. Thank you!?
