WORK IN PROGRESS
I have started a new book a political adventure story in the style of my early works, like The Peking Payoff and The Seizing Of Singapore.
The new work has a complex plot as it is now envisaged so it will take me some time to get all the pieces properly into place. But I certainly don’t expect it to be a ten-year project like my South-East Asia saga Nanyang, which required considerable research.
(Nanyang is both an eBook
and 700-page paperback
)
I took time out from producing Nanyang to write a light-hearted action romp, The Unintentional Jihadi, a novella, and published it as an eBook.
But when I had finished creating Nanyang as a paperback with CreateSpace, I decided it was important to start thinking about a new full-sized novel while my mind was still in creative mode.
I found it interesting that the first idea that sprang into my mind revolved around the cultural and political relationship between Hong Kong and China. I continue to be fascinated by the historically-fashioned, sometimes fraught ties between the former British colony, where I lived for 15 years, and China, the history and politics of which I studied at University and wrote about as a foreign correspondent. Accordingly, it was probably not surprising that my thoughts steered in the direction of a new story centered on my old passion.
I look forward to weaving a tale that I hope will appeal to readers.
