I think the only advice is to write, write, read, read, and write some more. I know from experience how difficult it can sometimes be to find the time -especially if you have kids, and have another job in order to earn a more secure income - but even a little bit helps. For me, it works if I set aside a time for writing every day, even if it's just a short time. Inspiration is good, but hard work is what really pays off if you're writing a book.
