Well, my advice to aspiring writers could be pretty detailed so let me just give you the short version: Read a lot, write a lot, get instruction and learn not only the craft of writing but the business of writing, be active in a writers group, have your work critiqued, attend writers conferences, take time for inspiration, and be prepared to work hard and persevere. As you can see, like in so many other things, 1) practice pays off and 2) slow and steady wins the race.
