There are many periods of history that fascinate me, but I'd really love to write a book set in ancient Egypt some day; it's always been one of my obsessions.
I think historical fiction remains so popular because it reflects the past to us in ways we can understand. No matter how factually accurate a writer may be, in the end, the historical novel says more about us, while allowing us to experience the drama of history through the prism of our current reality.
