Cari Z. just has a way of making me forget everything while getting lost in her stories. This was no exception. A really nice, enjoyable break from the norm. If a happy-go-lucky, post-apocalyptic, budding romance sounds good give this a go. I think you'll enjoy the adventure.

Calling all Tommy & Prophet lovers!!!!! Here's a wonderful, sigh-worthy, get-a-little-more fanfic based on S.E. JakesHell or Highwater series. This is going to thrill you with a spot-on peek at what may come.
The author captures what we love about these two, plants all sorts of glimpses of things you'll recognize from the series and takes you to a place that will leave you very happy.

My read was:
Shoulders to my ears. Oh God! Oh God! Snort. Jeezus! God! Ha! Oh God! (Stop vomiting. You are out of vomit.) Eww. Hee hee. Holding my breath. And then there was a sound that I've never made before. Something like a sigh, a groan and conscience congestion.
Make no mistake, this is horror. And it is romantic.
I think.
5 Stars because it is really, really messing with my head and I can find no flaw....more

Football and Magic?
Wait! Wait! I would have bypassed this too if I thought it was about football. I don't really usually like to read sports related stories. But magic? Yeah, I do magic.
Turns out the magic and the magical writing supersede football.
I really may be full of crap here, maybe the writing is annoying and the story is just a rehash of the same old internal struggle that we always read. But I don't think so. This felt really special to me. There's a certain heaviness, a weight that didn't feel draggy, but felt solid, like a palpable pull.
It's just good.
At just under 7k words I'm not going to tell you what this is about, just grab it (IT'S FREE), read it on your lunch break and then come find me and let me know if I've lost my way. Or if, once again, I've discovered a little SSBB bonbon; a sweet gem of goodness.

Ninja Dave is rescued by pirate Ian who in turn is rescued by ninja Dave. In between all of that is healing, loving, sword-fighting, spying, killing and loyalty. An awful lot packed into just a few pages.
Don't get hung up on the loose time frame or quirky use of contemporary speak, none of that matters and, in fact, just makes for a light, entertaining read. Relax and enjoy romance on the high seas.

Lovely writing, not quite poetic, but smooth and warm and emotive. As tender and heart-heavy as this is, it is the subtle writing that guides you forward. A perfect little, tender delicacy to ponder and dream about.
Some may read this in fifteen minutes, but I think it will fill something in your heart much longer.

David, the wealthy, snobish curmugeon "meets" Jazz, the talented, but uneducated street-kid and nothing is the same for either of them again. As their unlikely story unfolds what becomes most apparent is how much these two opposites need each other.
If you like a story with hot, hot, hot sexy scenes, an age difference, and a grouch that just needs a little tender loving care (at the hands of a unbeknownst-to-himself Dom) give this a shot. I can almost promise that you'll be smiling at the end.
There are BDSM tendencies, a possibly difficult to swallow (ehem) beginning and a bit of a rushed feel, but none of that kept me from absolutely enjoying this story. I recommend it without hesitation. Much, much to enjoy here :)

I loved the dressing room scene. Makes me want to visit a leather shop in the hopes of running into guys having this much fun.
Buuut then [image] I laughed so hard during the Skype session my poor dog ran and hid under the sofa.
I cried while laughing at Evan being carried outside. OH his embarrassment killed me.
Mostly though, I'm [image] crossing my fingers and begging that there will be more, because this was not nearly enough. I could read volumes more of Julien and Evan.
So my beautiful, darlin', K.C. ... [image] Thank you for going way, way over and beyond anything I could have hoped for with my prompt. I LOVE IT!!!

This was a wonderful mix of fantasy, alternate-history and contemporary. Thought provoking and uplifting, romantic and sexy and very well written.
King Aryeah's gentleness and questioning ways kept me interested. Orev's innocence, freshness and clarity was delightful. The interesting and very surprising world created here was familiar and mysterious at once.
If you're looking for something different, something temptingly sexy and something fresh, give this a shot.
It's short, it's free and it's wonderful.

There was a moment of intense jealousy that was fabulous. Not the kind of jealousy that makes you cringe or seems ugly, but the kind that makes you soar because you can see how real the character's feelings are.
And then lovely little things like this:
Then he'd kissed Jonah, and he could've sworn the earth had tilted on its axis because suddenly his head was spinning and he'd fallen into that kiss with a sort of wild hunger that bordered on desperation. And he'd thought that kiss was the creme de la creme of kisses, but, no, they'd just gotten better, one after the other.
So, just grab this when you want a delightful little pick-me-up. I think you'll love Jonah's emotions compared to Laurie's calm and you'll realize these two fit together perfectly.

The slow build up in this story had me a bit concerned, but this is an author who takes her time with her characters -- usually to prove that they deserve to be together. So, I kept reading and was sincerely rewarded.
There is a bit of a learning/understanding curve here which involves dual thinking processes and intersecting thought patterns, but once you see what's going on it all works.
Alastair has to dive into his work partner's (Baba) subconscious to find and clean a weapon that's been placed there. What he learns about himself along the way, and how he learns about it is fascinating.
...he'd been in minds that had understood themselves [...] and therefore projected themselves as cities, swamps, mazes, factories, warehouses, beaches, libraries, supermarkets, caves -- but he could honestly say this was the first time he'd ever encountered a subconscious disco.
Some of Baba's thoughts and memories had me clenching my tummy. He and Alastair are both so close and so far.
He wants to so bad it nearly kills him, but instead, he digs his feet into the ground so they're just out of arm's reach of one another. Are you okay? he asks keeping his hands balled into fists by his sides, so tight they hurt; it's a trick he's learned from Alastair.
This is a little deeper and more complex than I'm used to from this author, but she handles it well. I was left with a smile, which seems to be her MO, thank goodness. But I did have thoughts that the arrangement in the beginning may have been handled a little differently. Possibly a clearer explanation of their job? Again though, it all worked out and became clear and very, very fulfilling.

Pen looked right at Jonathan and hit him with the full force of his smile, that beautiful madman's grin that felt like a laser-guided bullet right into Jonathan's core.
The writing is snappy, the humor is spot on and the ending is perfectly romantic.
