S.E. Jakes is on fire! She managed to write a complex spy-assassin story with intrigue, complexities and betrayal rarely seen in M/M romance. Then she slipped in this gut-wrenching, developing relationship all while delivering some of the hottest sex scenes I’ve had the pleasure of reading (she’s really good at the sex scenes.)
Jakes is on fire. Mal and Cillian are scorching!!!
THE CHARACTERS
Cillian - His smooth operator persona got me, but now I know he’s even more than I had hoped for.
But in his business, you could never be too careful, too paranoid...or take too many chances. The ultimate paradox.
Mal - A hard knocks life makes Mal a very bad boy. Bad boys need to be…handled. Or, they need to take themselves in hand.
THE STORY
****A little modification here from my original review. I think a reader will benefit a great deal from reading some of the books that come earlier in the Extreme Escapes universe first. I suggest reading Catch a Ghost and Long Time Gone (Hell or Highwater series) before Dirty Deeds for an enhanced reading experience.**
But hell, of all the gay discos in all the world...
Spies spying on spies, spying on spies. Yeah, that just about sums it up.
Cillian is in Amsterdam meeting with his informants, gathering information on his target, a traitor and terrorist. A traitor that is also being hunted by Mal’s team. From here on out I can’t tell you more because I’d give things away. Suffice it to say that Cillian and Mal are on the same path and their paths cross in several unexpected and thrilling ways.
Oh, and Tommy and Prophet are lurking too.
THE WRITING
Leaving me with barely a moment to breath from beginning to end, Jakes nailed it.
It’s easy to get swept away in the absolutely soul-rocking hotness of this book, but it’s really the elaborate spy tale that caught me. I didn’t expect it. We had glimpses of Mal and Cillian in earlier Jakes books and I thought the relationship building was going to be the treat. And it was. But then all these loose threads from other parts of the Extreme Escapes, Ltd universe come into play making it much more involved than I expected.
In fact, once again Jakes opens up entirely new directions to for her stories and her characters to take, and for her fans to explore.
Mal was the real thorn in Cillian's side. Now, he was about to prove it.

I would like to thank S.E. Jakes and Riptide Publishing for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

FLASH REVIEW
After a too-long hiatus, Brandon Shire is back with the goods. Trust me when I say the wait was worth it. His Wicked Men do not disappoint.
I promised a review, but I have to admit it would be completely biased as I beta'd this and have already been determined to be Brandon Shire's sycophant (that's a nice word for boot-licker, kiss-ass, minion, slave, bitch - I looked it up ;) ).
So, forgive me for the non-review, but I'll just say if you've read season one and thought it was worthy of being right up there with the NYT big boys, like I did, then get ready to hold on to your socks. This season is even more, even deeper, even sexier, even grittier and definitely more INTENSE. How is that even possible?
And I love Sid even though he is completely unlovable. Or is he?

Full disclosure: I was a lucky beta reader and must admit I'm a little bit involved here. Although I've written short comments on each episode of season one (see my ŷ reviews) I hadn't written a full review. After reading this backwards and forwards many times would you believe that all I really want to do here is fangirl?
REVIEW
A complex, involved beginning turns out to be only the tip of the iceberg. The further we delve into this story the more vast and interconnected it becomes. You never get to step off, take a break or breathe.
THE CHARACTERS
Sid Rivers - Bastard Extraordinaire! Jack Brown - Sexy criminal looser. Or something else entirely? Drake - Big, silent, broody, badass. Trust me, you don't want to piss off Drake. Sweeny - Tech geek genius and sex kitten. Jeffery Marn - He's the one pulling all the strings. Right? Larry - Sid's legal partner - or is he? Shane -???
THE STORY
Sid went to the window and pushed the curtain aside, looking out on the street, wondering if he'd already gotten in over his head. They hadn't chosen Rivers & Dunn because Sid Rivers was a rising legal phenomenon. They wanted Sid's firm because they needed someone who was in no way associated with the oil industry, or with Jeffery Phillips Marn. They also wanted someone who was just as disposable.
On the surface this is a roller coaster ride through an unscrupulous world of law and crime, justice and vengeance. But, oh so surprisingly, upon finishing, I think you'll find that this entire season was a mind game played by the author to see if he could make you, the reader, his bitch! So maybe that makes Brandon Shire the wicked man. Let's say it's something of an experiment to see if you can justify loving wicked men.
These guys are bad, evil, corrupt, mean, bastards that more than one reader has walked away from. These aren't good guys making nice, uh uh. So, the mission, if you choose to accept it, is to see if you can get to the end without loving these guys just a little bit.
If you can't set your moral compass in the margin for a moment maybe this one's not for you. But if you're intrigued to find out why other readers have fallen madly in love with these nefarious, debauched men then grab this and see if you can keep your own morality in check, or if you too become Shire's little pawn.
THE WRITING
It's the writing that sets this apart. Shire is a story builder. He shovels around intrigue, layers on some gritty dilemmas, and places each brick so solidly that you don't even see where you've taken your misstep. Be wary of that whiplash effect, because there is going to be more than one incident of, "I didn't see that coming!"

My Review:
This is something of a split decision. I recommend the read, but it started stronger than it ended, for me. I think you'll identify this one as a cross between the movies National Treasure and Da Vinci Code. I suspect that was intentional (National Treasure is referenced in the narrative) and it makes for a good bit of fun. The treasure seeking adventure plotted out well enough, but it's some of the characters emotional reactions that didn't make sense at times.
THE CHARACTERS:
He joked about being the bad cop and how everyone here considered him a hard-ass, but Kelly knew better. Nick had the purest heart of anyone he'd ever known.
Nick O'Flaherty - I'm a sucker for a big, redheaded, alpha. Add to that his honor, intelligence and undeniable love for Kelly and you can't help but love him.
"It's me, babe," Kelly whispered against Nick's chest. "It's Doc, you're safe."
Kelly Abbott - Kelly really can keep his cool under pressure. He has much to contend with in this book, but he keeps it together, always with a smile and good humor.
Fuck, he was kind of Nick's type.
JD (John Doe) - I really liked JD. I have no idea if Roux has plans for him in the future though. I was sort of hoping that she had plans to "use" him a bit more here (i.e., MMM) but alas, that didn't materialize.
Julian Cross - Julian's, all too brief, appearances and castrated, cut-off-at-the-knees weakness did.not.work.for.me. Okay, maybe he's one of my book boyfriends, and I can't help it, but most of his actions were not in his nature. Compromised or not.
THE STORY:
Kelly and Nick's vacation plans are usurped by a case that Nick has to see through. What seems to be a run-of-the-mill robbery turns out to be much more. Adventures, shoot outs and cemetery scenes ensue. That's okay, we like that stuff. We also like the hot, passionate love scenes Roux writes.
"Soft spot?" "Please," Kelly said with weak laugh. "If we weren't a thing, you'd be all over him." Nick opened his mouth to protest, then shut it with a snap of his teeth. "You're probably right," he admitted.
There's also JD, a witness who's memory loss keeps us from knowing if he's the good guy or the bad guy. Not to mention his attraction to Nick, and visa-versa, also keeps us from knowing if he's a good guy or not. (I was hoping for not, as I mentioned above, in the MMM sense, but that's just me.)
The state of Nick and Ty's fracturing friendship was a topic only the bravest of men would touch on. Zane had balls of brass to do it.
There are brief, very brief, appearances by Ty, Zane, Julien Cross and Cameron. That's probably where my frustration started. Lesson learned? Keep the story solidly about the MC's, sure? But in this case, it was too clipped. Sorry, maybe some of us just can't be pleased.
THE WRITING:
The tell-tale marks of Roux's writing are all here. The good and the not-so-good. Snappy, interactive banter, quick, smart comebacks, and deeply romantic, soul-touching confessions wrap you up in the characters. Adventure, wrapped in mystery surrounds you in an entertaining getaway. But, missed opportunities, misplaced sentiment, continuity errors and frustrating, incomplete character appearances just leave me wanting something more.
Again, I recommend the read, particularly for fans, you'll like what's here. You'll just miss what's not. I would like to thank Riptide Publishing for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

THIS is why we read SE Jakes.
So many questions answered. So many new revelations. So much emotion, sex, vulnerability, depth and pain. And still, so much remains unknown.
THE CHARACTERS
Prophet Drews -
Prophet put up a hell of a fight, but when he surrendered it was so completely, unmistakably beautiful.
Tommy Boudreaux -
Everything had suddenly gotten really complicated…and somehow better at the same time.
Lansing - CIA prick.
John Morse - Best friend, first love, SEAL teammate. And a dead man.
Cillian and Mal - OH man, I can’t, just can’t.
King and Ren and Hook Yup, they’re here and in fine form.
THE STORY
Intrigue x 10 Mystery wrapped in tension, action, danger. Sexy, well…Tommy & Prophet. Love. Yes. Love. And Chapter One doesn’t require breathing.
The entirety of this story is just too big to condense here, but suffice it to say that this third book in the series picks up about four months past where Long Time Gone left off and at about the same time as Dirty Deeds begins.
“We’ve gotten through a lot of shit already, Tommy. A lot. Maybe more than we’re supposed to. Maybe we’ve reached our limit. “Still trying to protect me. “Aɲ. “I’m going to chance it. Figure the universe already put us through hell. I think we’re meant to come out the other side together. Prophet rolled his eyes. “Romantic fucking voodoo Cajun shit. “That’s lovely. Anyway, what would we do with all our free time? “We could go run a goat farm, Prophet suggested.
Things have been moving forward with Tommy and Prophet on the home front, but now they are called upon to help a buddy who has been kidnapped, stirring up old conflicts. There’s no question that they’ll take on this mission together, but they’ll also be joined by colleagues…and ghosts. Believe me, I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of everything that this book contains.
THE WRITING
SE Jakes drives her story and her reader like an OTR trucker drives a semi; with control, power and a her sights set on getting the product there. She knows where she’s going and you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.
And that’s when he began fucking Prophet in earnest, saying his name like a cross between a chant and a prayer, and Prophet was damned sure no one had made it sound better.
There’s a reason this series has become so popular and it’s because of the storytelling. The books create discussion and you just want to tear ‘em down, figure ‘em out and discuss, discuss, discuss. I think I pity the poor reader out there who doesn’t have someone to hash this all out with.
OH and finally, to answer my lead up post to this review:
”Isn’t it enough that you threw the couch out the window? “You fucking love that shit, Tom growled. “The jealousy turns you the hell on.

TRUST TRUST TRUST
Trust me when I tell you that this is the best thing SE Jakes has written, and she’s been entertaining me with her writing for a while now. This book is an entirely new level of writing and story development for this author. Watching a series get better and better is a great thrill. With recurring characters and revisited storylines it could have easily slipped, instead the energy feels charged and the layers of inter-connectedness are much more complex. Which gives this series the potential to really explode.
This is a culmination of the last three books and you have to be on your toes to keep up. It’s worth the effort though. And geez, I haven’t even told you how sexy it is.
THE CHARACTERS
He could blame the drink or the stress, but really, the rough touch and the handling always did it for him.
Yeah, me too.
Lucky (Josh Kent) - Lucky is this beautiful wild-card throughout this book. You will completely fall for him, want to protect him, and hold him, while holding him at arms length too.
Dashiell (Dash) Bain - Yeah, come on Dash, just plow right ahead and take what you want. Damn.
I love the chemistry between these two. It is all chemistry in the beginning and sometimes that’s not okay, but it works here because the relationship gets to build into more, and isn’t that what we really want to see?
Additional Characters Rex Poor, torn Rex. Sawyer Wow, I can only wish I could have played it so cool. I love Sawyer. Clint The Rock. Jace If I could buy a best friend it would be Jace. Cooper So. Damn. Smooth.
THE STORY
Lucky is living a happy-go-lucky life. He’s safe, has his needs filled and he’s happy. Sure he’s lonely, but you would be too if you couldn’t remember anything earlier than four years ago. He also knows he doesn’t want to know what happened four years ago and he’s got the scars to prove it.
Dash lives a very secret double life, one he can’t even share with his family. For their safety. When he discovers the thing he’s been trying to keep his family safe from is living with them his entire world turns upside down. And then the mental tug-of-war he plays with himself? It’s just…mental.
By way of this discovery many, many lives are affected. Many of the men we’ve read about previously in the Men of Honor series are about to have to revisit a past from which they are still trying to recover.
Jakes often weaves a paranormal or even a mystical thread into her work in a way that feels like that unexplainable energy in the universe. Works for me. It never overwhelms the story, it just puts a bit of possibility into it. In this story you will find some unlikely coincidences, but they are acknowledged as such. Sometimes you are just where the universe wants you to be.
There is one minor continuity fact that I keep questioning, but I’m going to my favorite boards to sort that out. I’m sure it’s something I just didn’t connect with.
From the jungle, to the brig, to beaches and bedrooms hang on for an ambitious story that has tension, tenderness, torture and trust. Trust, trust, trust.
Lucky was being treated with a mixture of respect and suspicion, sometimes both at the same time, and it was beginning to freak him the fuck out. …] But now that he was here, he was given extra escorts into the building. Men in uniform who surrounded him like he was a bomb they were worried would detonate. Am I?
THE WRITING
They forced you to believe the lies.
This felt so much like reading a movie that I just kept losing myself in it. The complexity and multi-layered connections woven into this story set it apart from everything Jakes has written previously. This is a giant step forward in her work, but I don’t think it’s a fluke at all. She’s been improving constantly and I’m more anxious than ever to read what she writes next. With this book she has moved into a category of writer that I feel very comfortable giving 5 stars to.

Okay, so this is a quickie 'cus I gotta move right on to book 5 Bound For Keeps. I just gotta say how much I enjoyed this intense bit of hot, he-man, alpha-action. Honestly, something about the blurb had me questioning whether or not I wanted to read this, but I couldn't be happier that I read it. I think it was the idea that there were two couples or something, but it worked perfectly and made for a great read. Btw, S.E. Jakes writing is constantly improving. The edgy tone in the first half of this book really set the mood. It smoothed out as the story progressed, as the relationships progressed and that just felt right.
I will say that I felt that Rex and Sawyer's relationship wrapped up a bit abruptly, but maybe there's more to know there. No matter, it was all very fulfilling and very, very hot.

Nothing else mattered, because nature’s wrath couldn’t compare to this.
I was blown away with this book!
The reunion scene alone would have been enough. Luckily for me (and you), there’s so much more.Wow! Action, answers, confessions, apologies, anguish, promises, ghosts, voodoo and gators. And some of the hottest sex around. CraZy shaking need!!!
OH, and one of the best “mine moments ever! Okay, so it’s a little erotic, but I thought it was perfect.
Oh, oh…and the “gooseflesh. Oh jeez, yeah I am really just all about these two guys and their story.
THE CHARACTERS
"No one's ever taken care of you back, Proph. You have to fucking let me." "I don't know how," Prophet said, and Tom sighed internally because that wasn't a no. Not by a long shot.
Tommy Boudreaux - It seems like everyone’s out to get Tommy in this book. But mostly, it’s about Prophet “getting him.
Guess you don’t need flashbacks if you’re living the real thing.
Prophet Drews - Working himself nearly to death to forget about Tommy and to still his flashbacks we learn much, maybe too much, about Prophet’s past.
Side Characters - Mick and Blue I can’t tell if I want to chase or be chased. Damn these two! Cillian Someone wants to kill you? Really? Huh. Mal Oh boy, I think you have a lot to say. I’m a goner for Mal!!! Roger and David "Roger and Dave enjoyed the show," You’ll enjoy Roger and Dave too.
THE STORY
If working with Prophet had taught him anything, it was that promises were dangerous, especially if they were worthwhile.
Tommy and Prophet have been separated for four miserable months. Tommy's training in N. Africa, but sends daily emails to Prophet that are completely ignored, leaving Tommy to believe Prophet has moved on.
Prophet finally reads all of the emails, all 122 of them, in one sitting, and then promptly finds himself heading into the heart of a New Orleans hurricane. He may not want to reopen his wounds, but he knows he can’t deny Tommy’s voodoo instincts.
Best Scene: I’m torn between the muddy tackle and the “ladder scenes. No, I’m not. The muddy scene for sure, but damn, the “ladder is hot.
THE WRITING
This book reads like greased lightening. I blew through it. And then I read it again. It slows down just a bit in the middle, but there weren't any dull moments. It was all...
S.E. Jakes has a habit of closing one door and then opening another. She keeps me on my toes with a plot that is complex enough to keep me interested, but rewards me with solid explanations...all in her sweet time.
I think it goes without saying that I can’t wait for the next book. I’m just enjoying this series so much and find I really need the rest of the EE universe too.
The other thing he knew for sure was that sex gave them a way to tell each other all the things they couldn't bring themselves to say out loud.
Yet.

I would like to sincerely thank S.E. Jakes and Riptide Publishing for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I suppose I should have read this first, but I do that sort of thing often. Anyway, this was enjoyable, but a little rushed, choppy maybe. Somehow though, that made it a very quick read and satisfied my need to know where the M/C, Prophet, in Catch a Ghost comes from.
This story is about Blue and Mick and how they come together. Trust me, they come together very well. There is a bit of action here, a bit of relationship building, but it's the sexy sex scenes that really reveal the story. I didn't get too worried about them, but I had a surprising emotional connection to Blue's sister that I didn't expect.
Anyway, this isn't a full review, just some thoughts because I'm going to read the whole Men of Honor series so that I don't miss a thing. My hormonal state is demanding rough, tough, gritty right now and it looks like S.E. Jakes can deliver that for me. Thank goodness.

I'm just doing a quickie comment here, but I think I enjoyed this C&R series book as much, or more, than any of the others. And that is a huge surprise to me. I really didn't love Stars & Stripes and for some reason didn't expect much here. I had known there was a LOT of hoopla over this book, but had managed all this time to stay away from any real spoilers. So, the twists & turns, ups & downs that this book had made it a real stand out for me.
I think that I'm in the camp that believes this book, with all its angst, was entirely necessary. I do believe the series was waning, or at least had the potential to start down that road. Now, we have fresh perspective, a new start and unexpected challenges to come.
Yeah, I may be back on board now.
