Alley (alleycatfish) Hi everyone! This is going to be fun!

message 5: by Amanda A (new)

Amanda A | 812 comments Hi all! Looking forward to getting started!

Any suggestions for team names? I am the least creative person, but I will try to think of a few suggestions.

message 6: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments I'm not great with names either but I shall put on my thinking cap.

Any volunteers for team captain? I've never done it before but can do it if no one else wants to.

message 7: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments I'm still thinking but what about High Fivin' Book Girls

message 8: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 90 comments Hi, team! Just wanted to check-in. I'll have to think about some ideas for a team name.

message 9: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments Another team name idea is

The Quintessential Quintet

message 10: by Sherri (new)

Sherri | 781 comments Hi all! Didn't realize we had teams. I'm also terrible at names, but I will try to think of something.

message 11: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments Anybody interested in being team captain?

message 12: by Amanda A (new)

Amanda A | 812 comments I like the Quintessential Quintet. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get online at the exact time of the draw each week, so I won't volunteer to be captain this round.

message 13: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments Another one is

Femforce Five

message 14: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 90 comments Those names are good suggestions, but Femforce Five is quicker for me to type. ;) I'm not really interested in being captain this go-round.

message 15: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25884 comments Team #5 you've got about 10 hours to decide on a captain :D

message 16: by Amanda A (new)

Amanda A | 812 comments Julianne, are you still available to be captain? If so, go for it! :-)

message 17: by Amanda A (new)

Amanda A | 812 comments I like Femforce Five too. I think this is my favorite.

All I came up with was a pathetic High Five. Thanks for all of the creative suggestions, Julianne.

message 18: by Sherri (new)

Sherri | 781 comments Rabid Readers
Bemused Bibliophiles
Chapter Chicks
Five for Reading
Give Me 5
Fabulous Fictional Five (F3)

and I can't help think of Babylon 5, Maroon 5, category 5 hurricanes and pentagrams.

message 19: by Sherri (new)

Sherri | 781 comments I would prefer not to be captain

message 20: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments I'm still up for being captain. Now we just have to nail down a name.

message 21: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 90 comments Yay, we have a captain! Femforce five still sounds good to me. :)

message 22: by Alley (new)

Alley (alleycatfish) Femforce Five sounds fine. Can't wait to get started!

message 23: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments Cool! Femforce Five it is. I'm so excited to get started.

Steph (angel4492) | 32584 comments ★MARK THIS TIME
The time is now 6:30a, Sunday JST. ;)

Let's Play!
Team captains, you may now draw a card and get your team on the board. This week, each team will move on the board. From this week forward, however, in order for your team to move forward, all members must have read, rated and reviewed their book by this time (give or take) next week.

HG

message 25: by Sherri (new)

Sherri | 781 comments :( no card drawn. Hopefully soon.

message 26: by Julianne (new)

message 39: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 90 comments Hehe, good for you!

message 40: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments So I've started Stolen, it's interesting so far but I just seem to find these books long reads. Its rather daunting...I can't imagine what I'd be like reading an 800+ page book.

message 41: by Alley (new)

Alley (alleycatfish) Switched my book to Thirst and finished it this morning. Figured I'd save the other in case we draw orange next.

Draw 1: Queen of Clubs
Batwing space 101

Thirst by L.A. Larkin
Book: Thirst - LA Larkin
Completed: 01/28
Rating: ★★★☆
Review: Luke and his group of fellow scientists are studying glacial movement in Antarctica when they are attacked by a mysterious group led by a wealthy Chinese business man. Lots of action, ice-climbing, snowmobile riding, etc... Not bad for a kindle freebie.

Samantha | 90 comments Good job, Alley!! Sounds like an interesting book.

A Brief History of Montmaray (The Montmaray Journals, #1) by Michelle Cooper
Title: A Brief History of Montmaray by Michelle Cooper
Date completed: January 29, 2013
Rating: 4-Stars
Review: Sophie, our narrator, is the princess of a small island of Montmaray (pop. 11 on a good day). Her newly gifted journal allows her to document daily life in their aging castle (or 'fortified house' as her cousin, Veronica would say). It was very easy to love Sophie and the gang as well as Montmaray itself, because Cooper does a wonderful job bringing them to life. Although the plot isn't really action-packed, the story is unique and you can't help but root for this family in their crumbling castle with all the signs of its former glory around them. I'll definitely be reading the next in this trilogy.

Book: Stolen by Kelley Armstrong
Completed: January 30, 2013
Rating: ★★★★
Review: I put off reading this book for a while because I found the first one a little slow...well slow this wasn't. Elena finds herself 'Stolen' and being kept in an underground facility with other supernatural beings she didn't even know existed. I was on the edge of my seat for almost the entire book. I absolutely can't wait to get started on the next book.

Samantha | 90 comments It's a good time to continue with that series, Julianne, especially since the author just finished the last book. :)

Yeah exactly. I hate having to wait forever for the next book in a series to come out.

Amanda A | 812 comments Blood Winter (Horngate Witches, #4) by Diana Pharaoh Francis
Finished 1/31

Blood Winter is the fourth installment in the Horngate Witches series. I just recently read it may be the last book of the series, but I hope not. Horngate is set in an intriguing world, post magical apocalypse Montana. There are many complex characters, but Max is my favorite. She would lay down her life for her people no matter what. Max faces off against a new threat to Horngate in Benjamin Sterling, a blood witch who is amassing his own followers. His goal is to destroy all other magical beings and take their magical powers for himself. The action is well paced and there was a twist with Sterling's accomplice that I did not see coming. I enjoyed the progression of Max and Alexander's relationship, and even though it floundered during the course of the book, the ending was appropriate. I hope this author has another series or book in the works soon.

message 47: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments It sounds good Amanda. That series is on my behemoth TBR.

message 48: by Sherri (new)

Sherri | 781 comments I'm done with my book just haven't had a moment this week to do a review. I'll do one tonight or tomorrow. But before tomorrow night since we need it in order to be able to take our turn.

message 49: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments Ok hopefully you can get it done soon.

My phone dropped and shattered so that is actually how I get my internet (even when I'm on the PC ). I can still use my son's phone (as I am now) and my bf's but I may not be able to get on right away tomorrow, I'll be able to do it for sure by 7pm Pacific time (normally it would be 1:30 Pacific). Hopefully that's ok with everyone, unless someone else wants to draw the card for tomorrow.

The Cat's Meow by Stacy Kennedy
Book Completed: 27 January 2013
Rating: ★★★★

A new author for me and I picked it up due to the cover. I enjoyed the story and will definitely continue with the series, but I wish there had been romance between the main characters. The mystery that Libby and Kale were brought together to solve was the main focus of the story and their romance developed as the two of them were forced to work together. Liked the twists and turns and was pleasantly surprised at the end. Overall a good read.
