message 103: by Kimber (new)

Kimber Wheaton (kimberleighwheaton) | 17 comments Hi, I'm Kim and I'm an avid YA reader and writer. I don't gravitate to any particular theme within YA though I do have a soft spot for fantasy be it urban or high epic. I love books where the fantastic happens right under our noses, like Harry Potter and Mortal Instruments. I write reviews of YA books with a special emphasis on self-published and small publishers. I also list Kindle specials and books under $2.99 periodically. The link to that blog is in my profile if anyone is interested.

Carmen Hii kim :D Im in love with the mortal instruments series i need the last one right now!

A place where you sometimes list Kindle specials and books under $2.99? That's my kind of place. :)

I've heard a lot of good things about Dr. Who from my friends but I've never gotten around to watching it, but maybe I should. I wonder of it's on Netflix...

Yes, please go for Doctor Who if you can. It's a weird and wonderful little show, with plenty of bad special effects and offbeat humor everywhere to make up for it.

message 114: by Alexis (new)

Alexis | 2 comments Hi, I'm Alexis. I really love books like Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, The Mortal Instruments, Lord of the Rings, and almost any other fantasy/adventure/dystopian book you can think of. But, since I'm a complete bibliophile, I also love almost any other book I find in any other genre as long as they're written well. I don't really write much, but I'm trying to branch out into writing more.

Haha, thanks for believing in me:D

And Tatiana, I agree with always having a book at hand, but don't be disgusted by people staring vacantly in bus stops or waiting rooms, you don't know where their minds are. If they are anything like me their minds may be taking them on wonderful adventures which may later turn into written short stories or even books;)

And hello to all new members! :D

message 130: by Dorna (new)

Dorna (crimsonskyx) Howdy sailors (^▽*) My name is Dorna and I'm a newly addicted YAholic. I know its not good for me but I can't help it... just one more... it will be my last... I promise (一。一;;)I read anything and everything but i'm currently occupied with a gazillion YA books... and I'm one of those horrible readers who reads/tries to read 4-5 books at the same time (well more like I juggle them around) not to get bored because every book turns out to be the same as the one before it (✖╭╮✖) Unless the book captures my heart and soul in which case I may end up losing sleep & finishing it in one sitting (depending on the length of said book). Anyways if you want to compare books & whatnot just check out my profile (though I still need to fix my bookshelves)(⌒▽⌒

Looking forward to discussing YA books with you all... Stay clean & healthy... drugs are bad mmkay (*^▽)

message 131: by Joan (new)

Joan | 4 comments Hi, I'm Joan K. Maze and I'm new to the group. I write mysteries, romantic suspense, paranormal, and YA. I just finished publishing my first YA timetravel, Fast Track to the Past, which is now available on B&N and Amazon. The paperback will be available on Amazon in a few days.

Here's what the story is about.
FAST TRACK TO THE PAST
BLURB

Jillian Henderson doesn’t believe her father is really dead, and can’t understand why no one is worried about the fact that important documents originated in the 1800’s by her father’s ancestor have gone missing. She is determined to find her father and the documents, but how?

Then Samuel Gordon, a man from the past, accidentally steps into the present from between the cars of a miniature train in the center of town. When Jillian learns he’s from the same time as her father’s ancestor, she follows Samuel when he steps between the railroad cars and back to 1888.

Intent on finding her ancestor and her father, she teams up with Jake Runs Like the Wind, Samuel’s friend, and they follow the clues she’s discovered, riding west into the Rockies. Jillian’s determination almost gets them killed, more than once, but in the process they not only find the truth about her father and his ancestor, but also discover their love for one another. Jillian will have to decide whether to stay in the past with Jake, or return to her own time.

For YA, I write under the name Joan Karen Maze and for my mysteries (adult), J. K. Maze

I think I'm going to enjoy this group. When I sign off, I go and get at least one of the books for this month.

Joan

Hey there,
My name is Priscilla and I believe I'm on my way to becoming a bookaholic. Living in a small town kinda brings down the options but I strive to be a verity reader. I mostly do read YA book and reading each stories is a delight. Stories have a power that is special and it's own: putting the reader into a new world. For me, I know I've picked up a good book is when the first chapter shoves me into a whole new world that is different and entertaining. I am kinda shy..but I'll do my best and post. Thanks for this opportunity!

We're also currently nominating Group Reads for next month, so feel free to suggest some in the July Book of the Month thread. Hope you like it here! :)
