The alternates:
Each number corresponds with the spot on the board.
For colors: The cover has to be at least 50%
For locations: As long as the book takes part at all in the given location .
For Shelves: Any book on the given shelf
For Publication Years: I'll be using how GR has it's publication date listed.
For Authors Names: The first, middle, or last name of the author is ok.
For Titles: Only the first word of the title. A, An, And, and The do not count.
So if the letter is B: The Best Day would be ok. Dear Betty would not be ok.

Skandia (sfgirl) | 435 comments Hello everyone! I'm Skandia and I'm from Estonia. I read mostly romances - contemporary, historical, paranormal and lately also YA/New Adult books.
Although I have participated in team challenges before, this is the first SS Team Challenge for me.

Hi All. This is Talia in Arizona. This is my first time in this challenge, and I'm looking forward to it! I like the team name FOURtunate Readers :). I've been reading a lot of YA lately, but I also like fantasy, science fiction, mysteries, and thrillers.

message 8: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 381 comments Hi Talia! It's a fun challenge hon! :)

message 9: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 435 comments Great to know that you have played before, Jennifer! I have done couple of BINGO rounds at SOS group and they were very much fun!

I'm ok with whatever name you come up to and as I am in Europe and +8 hours to CST, I don't know if this is ok for being a captain. But if the roll happens anytime during Friday CST and nobody else wants to be a captain, I could try. But, hey, we still have couple of teammates to check in.

message 10: by JenniferJ (last edited Feb 03, 2014 10:07PM) (new)

JenniferJ | 381 comments ok I am awful with time but would that mean it is about 2pm Friday when it is midnight in central time US?

It would be like 1 am for me. (I am in eastern time zone) Weird how time works! LOL

I think it is 2pm CST, Jennifer.

Thats why someone from US would make a better captain so we will not lose a roll because of time differences.
It's a team challenge and if there is a last minute review ( and I hope there isn't but you never know) it would be easier to report in US time-zone.

message 12: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 381 comments LOL see I am horrid with time conversions! LOL No worries though hon like I said I will be okay doing captain if need be. :)

JenniferJ | 381 comments I just pm'ed Joanne and Shreya to let them know teams had been set up so they should probably be popping in soon. :)

I'm not usually good with team names but I'll try to think of one.

I'm cool with JenniferJ being captain :D

Jojobean | 220 comments We are going to Read and Rawk this Challenge! Yay excited!

message 23: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 381 comments LOL @ Teammates I am excited as well!

Shreya has not been on Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ since the 4th or either just hasn't made any posts so I am still hoping she will touch base with us soon. She seemed excited in her pm to be able to play.

Am I correct that this is everybodies first time but mine? In the last round what our team did was everybody tried to have their reviews posted a day in advance like since we get to roll at midnight Thursday Central time you'd need to at least have your reviews posted by noon (central time) Thursday. That way I am able to roll the dice as soon as possible (1am eastern my time) This is not a requirement but keep in mind that I can't roll the dice until ALL reviews are posted and if everybody has not posted on Friday we will have to wait another whole week before we can roll again so if at all possible let's try to have those reviews posted as soon as possible! :)

Now let's get ready to RUMBLEEEEEEeeeeee (Oooops I mean READ)!! LOL

message 24: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 220 comments Hey Jennifer. Yes its my first time playing. I just wanted to make sure I'm clear on everything. Since we roll the dice on Fridays, you would like to have our reviews in by Thursday, correct?

If that's what your saying them I'm cool with that. :D

I cant wait to start!

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

This is my first time, so I looked at a past round's reviews to get an idea of what is expected. I'll aim to post my reviews by Thursday morning.

message 26: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 381 comments Thank you so much ladies! Yes you are correct Joanne. I'd say try to at least have them posted by around noon on Thursday. That way when midnight gets here I can go ahead and roll them dice with no waiting.

I am so excited to get going!

message 27: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 435 comments This is my first SS too, but Thursday for reviews is fine and better to be safe!
I'll figure out my time difference but I think it's Friday morning for me :P

Jennifer, maybe we should inform Jenne, that it looks like we have a member missing?

message 28: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 381 comments Skandia I sent Jenne a pm and she said just go ahead and roll for tomorrow and if she still hasn't checked in by Monday that she would see if she could get in contact with her but not to worry if she doesn't check in that it wont prevent us from rolling on time we'd just have to assume something came up and she's not able to play.

message 29: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 435 comments Ok, thanks.

message 30: by JenniferJ (new)

JenniferJ | 381 comments Ok ladies our first roll is 8 so you can either read an 8th in a series or do the alternate which is a "P" author

Be sure to pop back in and either post what your going to be reading or make some kind of post so we know you have seen the roll of the week please. :)

I'm off to see what I can read from a P author myself cause I am not up to an 8th in a series that I can think of.

message 31: by Skandia (last edited Feb 06, 2014 11:30PM) (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 435 comments Yay, first roll!

I'll let you know which one I'll use.

Spot #8

Book Read: Four Blind Mice (Alex Cross, #8) by James PattersonFour Blind Mice (Alex Cross #8) by James Patterson
Date Finished: 02/08/14
Rating: ★★
Review:
John Sampson enlists the help of Det. Alex Cross when an old army buddy is on death row for three murders he swears he didn't commit. Alex and John are on the case to find the real murderer and discover who would want to frame John's friend and why. This was an average "Alex Cross" novel. It held my interest, and there were some surprises that I didn't guess. The stories about soldiers in the Vietnam war made me wonder what going to war does to a man's psyche, and what happens when he has to come back home and go back to "normal" life. As for the storylines about the characters' personal lives, I'm glad John finally gets some lovin'! It's usually all about Alex, but sidekicks need love too!

message 42: by Shreya (new)

Shreya (loopyloops) Hello, my teammates!! Sorry I cldn't post on time. Impromptu travelling :-| Anyways,I am here now. I am Shreya, from Hyderabad, India. Its my first time playing anything like this and I am super excited. I have recently come out of a bad bout of reader's block and hope this challenge would put me on track. I read anything as long as I find it interesting, sci-fi, fantasy, classics, contemporary, you name it. Not very big on cheesy romances though. So far my Non-fic was about travel and animals. Want to change that.

For this dice roll I want to read Diary by Chuck Palahniuk

I am starting on it right now. See you soon with a review

Twice Shy by Patrick Freivald by Patrick Freivald

Date Finished: 2/12/14
Rating: 2/5

Review: I really didn't get anything out of this story and that's sad since it's a zombie story and I LOVE zombies. I really couldn't stand the main character and so ashamed to admit it but was almost rooting for her to get incinerated. The only thing I really felt for her was disgust except when she was being bullied at school.

I didn't understand the cutting thing. I know humans do it they say as a release but why would a zombie do this? And Ani is constantly getting physical hurt and in pain in the story. How can this be? I have always believed that zombies have no pains and such.

I only give it any stars because it is a zombie story I suppose and because the cover was cool as well as the synopsis but in my opinion it just didn't deliver the message to me.

message 45: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 220 comments totally off topic but Jennifer, have u read the "something strange and deadly" series by Susan dennard? its about zombies but goes back to tradition when zombies were controlled by a necromancer. I live this series and since I see that u love zombies too, I wanna suggest it to u. its my top five favorite series :)

message 46: by JenniferJ (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 435 comments Week 1 - Spot 8 - P Author

Red Rising (Red Rising Trilogy, #1) by Pierce Brown by Pierce Brown
Date finished: 2/13/13
Rating : 2 stars

This book has so many high ratings that I wonder if I read the same story as everybody else did.
I don't even know where to begin, so I start from the beginning as the beginning of the book earned the two stars I gave. Good world building, original back story, Mars setting and colorful characters (the bun intended!). There was some politics and pathos I didn't care much but I was looking forward how the story develops and the Red Helldiver Darrow breaks out to surface and makes it into the ranks of Golds.
But ..... instead of getting interesting and keeping the story original it soon turns to making of Frankenstein and "Hunger Games" on Mars. WTH?
I quickly lost interest in Darrow's character as well as the storyline and got bored of all this fighting, killing, cruelty and games. The story started to drag and descriptions of the battles got longer and longer. Almost nothing interesting happened anymore and the winner was long known so it was a pain to dig myself through to the quick and anticlimactic end.
All in all a big disappointment, sadly.
