Delta (sicname) Do we have all the goals covered except for the radish?

message 202: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Yeah. I think a couple have multiple possibilities and we'll see who finishes first, but radish is our only open one right now!

message 203: by Delta (new)

Delta (sicname) Is there a way to search for a word in a book other than Amazon's "look inside" option? Amazon doesn't have a search option for The Witches of Eastwick.

message 204: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1402 comments I can't do a word search in all of my books, but haven't found it so far..

message 205: by Denise (last edited Aug 20, 2015 01:53PM) (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Yeah, try Google books:

Search for the book and most of them have a preview option, so once you click on the book there's a box on the left page to search for specific words.

It can be weird though, for some reason it doesn't work unless there's an exact match. So you'd want to search radishes as well just in case the plural is in the book. :)

message 206: by Emily (new)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments I've got "radishes" in The Magicians. I'm almost done with it!

message 207: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Ooh nice! :D

message 208: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments Yeay! All our goals get done fast... We are on roll!

message 209: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments I finished Skin Game which takes care of our read a book that is book 10 or more in a series goal!

Next that came up was read a book that starts with a D so I used A Dangerous Thing for that one. Then we had Read a book first published on the 2nd of a month - Mr. Right There All Along worked for that (GR says 8/2/14 and then originally published January 1st the same year, but I confirmed the date on the author's site) so that's another out of the way. And I used Reveal as well. :D

Next up: Read a book where a character is a writer Do any of the finished books work for this one?

It's awesome when I can fill in a bunch of goals in a row, but I get really impatient waiting for these goals to refresh in 5-10 minutes, lol!

message 210: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I have 4 writer books we haven't used :)
Use the first one in the series, the shadow one (and yesI have forgotten the exact title atm.. ) =P

message 211: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Got it! If I had known that the MC was a writer and it would say so in the first sentence of the blurb I might have checked them, haha. But I figured I'd ask everyone since instead of going through them all and then having a random book with a minor author character. ;)

message 212: by Emily (new)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments I finished The Magicians! 428 pgs.
And on pg. 23:
"He was asked to draw a rabbit that wouldn’t keep still as he drew it as soon as it had paws it scratched itself luxuriously and then went hopping off around the page, nibbling at the other questions, so that he had to chase it with the pencil to finish filling in the fur. He wound up pacifying it with some hastily sketched radishes and then drawing a fence around it to keep it in line."

message 213: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Woohoo! Thanks Emily!

I'll update now then post once I have our next two goals that I can't fit a book into.

We're doing a great job - we were around 91-92 defense points just yesterday I think, and with Emily's book we're now at 106. :D

message 214: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Read a book that contains the word chamomile

None of my finished books have this, though I still have to check my current reads if no one has one already done!

message 215: by Emily (new)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments Awesome job, everyone! Thanks, Denise!!

message 216: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Really great work everyone! :)

message 217: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments One of mine might, I think i saw it a few days ago and flashed back to Uno..... If we haven't found it in the morning (a few hrs) I'll go through my books first thing.

message 218: by Denise (last edited Aug 20, 2015 05:30PM) (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Awesome! If no one has chamomile already done I did find it in one of my current reads and I need to finish that book by Saturday for another challenge, so I can cover it. :)

Also, the other new goal: Read a book written by an author who was born in Central America

message 219: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I'll check and let you know in a few hours. I'm out on the author though.

message 220: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments No worries! I doubt I'll finish tonight but either way I need to finish it by Saturday. If you have one great, if not I'll prioritize mine and try to finish tomorrow. ;)

I think I'm out on the author too. That's going to be a hard one! I'll take a closer look at options in a couple of days (once I've finished my insane reading schedule for this week lol) if no one else claims it!

message 221: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Finished Succubus Shadows (Georgina Kincaid, #5) by Richelle Mead

Not my book with chamomile in it so I can't use it for a goal yet. :)

message 222: by Emily (last edited Aug 20, 2015 10:20PM) (new)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments Finished This Song Will Save Your Life. This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales 288 pgs. Doesn't fit any current goals.

Yeah, that Central American author one could be really tough! I've been looking, but haven't really found anything I want to read (though I found, for example, authors from South America and the Caribbean with books on my TBR if we get those places in the future).

message 223: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments I know, it's tough! I have Australia, several countries in Europe, South America, Canada, Mexico...and nothing that I've found so far for Central America, lol. ;)

message 224: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I don't have any authors for Central America right now either. At least not that I remember. I'll try a look further into it later today, if no one else has chipped in with a book.

message 225: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments No chamomile in any of my read books :(

Two more to add to the read list btw

Blind Passion 20/8 198 pages
Faith & Fidelity 21/8 228 pages

message 226: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1402 comments I think Delta had a book for the central america challenge last round, Ashes of Izalco, if anyone wants to read that one.

message 227: by Silje (last edited Aug 21, 2015 04:08AM) (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1402 comments Added the recent books to the spreadsheet, but I'm on my phone app (and at work:P), so couldn't fix the link, will have to do it later..

message 228: by Emily (new)

Emily Ugh, the Central American authors one is tough. I know other groups have had a lot of trouble with it in the past.

I've got Mexican and I've got South American, but no Central American authors that I'm aware of. :(

We can always use a boon on it if we look around and still can't find anything.

message 229: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1402 comments I was just thinking the same, Kate, we could use a boon to take it away=)

message 230: by Delta (new)

Delta (sicname) Ashes of Izalco is a really short read and it's available for Kindle Unlimited. Also, very well written.

message 231: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments This Central America one is tough!

message 232: by Delta (new)

Delta (sicname) Finished Out of Oz. "But what a sight for sore eyes you'd provide him, on some happy day!" page 154 in my paperback edition.

message 233: by Denise (last edited Aug 21, 2015 08:56AM) (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Delta wrote: "Ashes of Izalco is a really short read and it's available for Kindle Unlimited. Also, very well written."

Shame that I used my trial for Unlimited a couple of months ago, lol.

(Also, yay another goal finished! Will post the next one shortly)

message 234: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I finished another book, no goal though
Duty & Devotion, 234 pages

message 235: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Next up: Read a book with only one eye on the cover

If there is a finished one for this please let me know! I don't have time to go through all of the links until a bit later today. :)

message 236: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I really hope it will be a good goal. The ones we've gotten this round has been tough.

message 237: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments No eye on my list, sorry :(

message 238: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments The mods added a ton of new goals right around the end of round 1 so that may be why, lol. Honestly though we've had quite a few easy ones too - I've filled out I think at least a dozen from already finished books and just haven't posted them all here. :)

It's like we get 3 really easy ones and then something ridiculously hard. ;)

message 239: by Annika (last edited Aug 21, 2015 09:07AM) (new)

Annika | 1744 comments For the eye one, do you think In Your Dreams (In Your Dreams, #1) by Amy Martin would work?

Otherwise someone could read Drip Drop Teardrop by Samantha Young (I read it a couple of months ago) It's fairly short and free on amazon.

I can look around and see if I can find something else too.

message 240: by Delta (new)

Delta (sicname) Here are two lists with "eyes" on the cover.

/list/show/1...

/list/show/3...

message 241: by Denise (last edited Aug 21, 2015 09:13AM) (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments I have several that would work and 2 that I needed to get to this month either way. I could fit one in tomorrow. Or if someone else has one that's cool, but either way I'll be reading 1-2 during this round. :)

message 242: by Nidhi (last edited Aug 21, 2015 09:48AM) (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments Can we reread some books? If so I can reread any of Prince of Wolves (The Grey Wolves, #1) by Quinn Loftis Fairest (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, #2) by Chanda Hahn Fable (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, #3) by Chanda Hahn Reign (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, #4) by Chanda Hahn Forever (An Unfortunate Fairy Tale, #5) by Chanda Hahn as I already have them.

If not I have The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer or The Fallen Star (Fallen Star, #1) by Jessica Sorensen on ibooks.

Though yesterday I started reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor .

message 243: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments You can reread a book if it's been more than six months since the last time you read it! :)

If you want to work on your current book it's up to you...I have The Host and I think Unravel Me (whatever the 2nd in that series is lol) to read. I have to finish both in August for other groups so I'm going to have to read them whether they fit goals or not. ;)

message 244: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments I can reread any of these books by Sunday as I read these before six months except forever. We can save host for alien invasion or something alike for goal in future.

message 245: by Denise (last edited Aug 21, 2015 10:52AM) (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments I just had Unravel Me pop up for another game I'm playing as well, so I'm going to start today and get it out of the way, haha.

I have a BUNCH of books (like, a dozen LOL) I've committed to for this month that I have to catch up with, so I probably will not be able to add anything additional for goals over the next week. Hopefully several I'm already reading will fit in somewhere! :)

message 246: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1599 comments Finished Brokenhearted 210 pgs

message 247: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments BTW Nidhi if you finish your eye book first that's cool, it may pop up again or my book may fit for another goal. I'm just starting today, I'll probably finish Sunday because I have a couple others I need to finish by tomorrow. ;)

Yay, Teresa! :D

message 248: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Silje wrote: "Added the recent books to the spreadsheet, but I'm on my phone app (and at work:P), so couldn't fix the link, will have to do it later.."

I'm updating with the new books now so I'll add the links in. :)

message 249: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Actually, I'm going to check with the mods and see if This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales will count for the eye goal...it's from the side and kind of behind a letter but there's only one eye on there! Emily finished that one yesterday.

message 250: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments I feel like I'm spamming this thread, haha. >_>

Anyway, Karen gave us the okay on our already finished book for the eye goal! So I will fill that in (and maybe some more goals depending what pops up *fingers crossed*). Will post the next goal soon. :)
