Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Read a book first published on the 3rd of a month

Sadly, it doesn't look like anything we've finished so far works for this one! I even tried looking up the dates for books that just said January 1st since they're probably wrong, but no luck! :(

message 252: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments It doesn't look like we have a book that fits, we have a couple published on the 2nd though... =P

message 253: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments We have half the dates in the month, at least. Just not the 3rd. :P

message 254: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I'm doing some inventory of my many, many books and I'll let you know if I find something. (I did find one, but I'll have to read a book before that one)

message 255: by Denise (last edited Aug 21, 2015 01:43PM) (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Sounds good! Of course, none of my current reads, or my last 4 mountaineering books, or the next few KD books have the correct date. :P

If I come across something I'll let you all know, but I think someone else can probably finish more quickly than I could!

How are we coming on the rest of the goals? I should have chamomile done for tomorrow if no one else finds it sooner.

Current goals:
Read a book that is ranked 501-750 in bestsellers on book depository (...)
Read a book written by an author who was born in Central America
Read a book with a bicycle on the cover

Read a book first published on the 3rd of a month
Read a book which has the main location (setting) as outer space
Read a book that contains the word chamomile

message 256: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I can cover 3rd of the month, but probably won't finish it 'til next week, but I need to read both books this month anyway.
- and sadly I will be reading a bit less starting next week as I have to pack up my apartment and move (then I need to unpack). So I'm trying to fit in as much as possible for now.

message 257: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Ugh, yeah I remember how far behind I fell in reading when I moved. And it takes way longer than you think it would! >_<

Seriously though no worries, you've finished like 12 books in less than a week, LOL! ;)

I think if we don't have anyone for the Central America goal by tomorrow (to give everyone a chance to check in here) we should maybe use one of our boons. Looks like neither of our teams used it last round, and we should have another for this round as well, so we have a few to play with! I'd totally read that short one posted earlier if I still had Amazon Unlimited but I haven't been able to find anything else (at ALL, not just short books, etc). Though I may still check some other teams and see if they've had the goal and what they used.

message 258: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1380 comments I'm halfway through the book with a bicycle on the cover, going a bit slow...

message 259: by Delta (new)

Delta (sicname) I'm reading The Matchmaker: An Amish Retelling of Jane Austen's Emma which GR says was published February 3rd. I'm only about a 1/4th of the way through it and don't expect to finish until Monday.

message 260: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Silje wrote: "I'm halfway through the book with a bicycle on the cover, going a bit slow..."

Cool! I was kind of just checking in, we get so into the new goals that I forget all about the old ones. So just making sure they're still in progress. :)

Kate was starting one for the bestseller list I think today, you've got bicycle, I have chamomile, Shannon has the space book, and Delta or Annika will take the 3rd unless someone else happens to finish one over the weekend that works. So it's just that stupid Central American author we really need to worry about, I think! ;)

message 261: by Delta (new)

Delta (sicname) I had a really hard time finding a book for the Central American goal. Even after I found Ashes of Izalco on another team's spreadsheet, it took me a while to find it (I had to sign up for the Unlimited trial). The biggest problem is that even if you find a title, it's in Spanish. While it's a beautiful language, I can't read it very well.

message 262: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Yeah, I haven't found many books. A lot are in Spanish (which I can't read) and others are kind of obscure and I can't find them at the library easily. I can't remember what it was but I found one...but it was over 500 pages long and would have taken me a week to get in at the library, so meh. I'm all for skipping that goal unless someone posts tonight that they have another one or has Kindle Unlimited to read Ashes of Izalco!

message 263: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I just went through a list with Central American authors. I didn't recognize any of the authors there, and I looked up a few of the authors, but it seemed that they had mainly written in Spanish, and I can't speak it.

If any of you know any of these, and would like to read one of their books I won't stop you. I'm totally in for using one of our boons for that goal though.

message 264: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I vote for skipping that goal :)

Oh. and thanks for the moving pep talk, just what I needed to hear.... =P

message 265: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Hey it's not like you don't remember what it was like for me. That was only two months ago and I complained for weeks. ;)

And I still haven't finished unpacking. :D

message 266: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I know.... and it's not like I haven't been moving around either (5 times the last 8 years, this will make 6)..

message 267: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1573 comments I vote to skip the Central America goal. Sooner the better. Our attack points are high but our defence points are holding us back :)

message 268: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments I requested it. Once it's granted and we get a new goal I will post back! :)

message 269: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Boon was granted! Next up was read a book with "mint" in it, so I used my Kate Daniels book for that. Now we have "Read a book whose author (first or last) starts with I"

Figures, since I JUST used my I book for that last goal! :(

But, I am reading the next in the series this weekend either way, so it can be used for the new goal if needed. :)

message 270: by Emily (new)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments I'm also starting rereading Magic Breaks right now and then reading Magic Shifts right after (both by by Ilona Andrews), so we'll have plenty of those to use for an I author soon.
If I reread a book, do I need to change the finshed on date? Or can I leave it as the original one?

Magic Shifts is also rated 615 on book depository, so unless someone finishes something else first we can use it for that goal.

message 271: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Nice! Glad you're reading them as well. It won't take me long to get through the next one (I tend to get totally sucked into those books and read them in an afternoon lol) but I have I think three other books I need to finish up first (including the chamomile one). So it'll probably be Sunday or maybe even Monday since Annika and I have another game that starts Sunday and we aren't sure what we're going to need to read for that one. :)

So if you finish Magic Breaks first that's cool and we can use it for I author. As for the book depository goal, Kate was starting one too but it's nice to have the backup so we can use whichever is done sooner.

For the reread you'll want to make sure to update the finish date when you're done so it's clear you read it during the round. :)

message 272: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments So I finished Changing Nature this morning and it just happened to have chamomile as well. :D

Next goal: Read a book with a lion

Does anyone have a completed book that would work for this? Changing Nature would have, if I hadn't just used it. I'm starting to have bad luck there. That's the second time in a row I used one of my books for a goal and then it would have worked for the next one. >.>

If no one has a finished book with a lion we don't need a new one read. Since Emily and I are both reading Kate Daniels books, one can be used for the I author and the other for the lion! :D

message 273: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments No lion on my part :(
We don't have any KD books?

but a book to add :)
The Cake 206 pages

message 274: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments We did, I read one the other day but I used it for the word mint in the text. Then I author popped up, LOL.

Emily and I are both reading one now, and between the two of us we'll have another three this week probably (I'm reading up through the 7th book) so I'm almost hoping a couple of those goals repeat. ;)

message 275: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Should we finally do the BR for Breaks? :)

message 276: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Also, that book shows only 158 pages? :(

message 277: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Annika wrote: "Should we finally do the BR for Breaks? :)"

YES. I told Steph I'd be ready to start by the 25th (Tuesday). Which sounds about right. Possibly on Monday if I'm able to fit the 6th book into the AR round somehow. ;)

message 278: by Annika (last edited Aug 22, 2015 08:57AM) (new)

Annika | 1744 comments wrong link, the one I have on my shelf is 206, The Cake

message 279: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Great, I'll make sure not to pack that book :)

message 280: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Ooh, got it!

YAY! Right, that doesn't get packed until the end of the week after we're done. ;)

message 281: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Right, I can have that in my handbag if nothing else (provided I haven't finished it in a week - which seems unlikely)

message 282: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments I have re-read The Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis for one eye on cover boon. If it's not done already.

message 283: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments It's 230 pages

message 284: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Woohoo! I haven't even started my eye book yet haha, but I did get the okay from the mods on a book we'd already finished. We will fit this into a goal at some point this week! :D

message 285: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments I know. I am happy with our progress.

message 286: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Finished Cold Snap, 480 pages.

message 287: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1573 comments Finished Astounding!, 210 pgs

message 288: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments I also finished Daughter of smoke and bone. By laini Taylor. 415 pages... No goals

Characters named Karou, Akiva, brimstone, zuzane and mik. Just for any future goals. I tend to forget character names... I loved this book and would love to read the next in the series. <3

4.5 stars for me!

message 289: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1573 comments If author starts I then it meets a goal!

message 290: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Yay! :)

Denise, what is the next one?

message 291: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Nope sorry, it's Laini Taylor! Nidhi probably just missed the caps button for it so it looks like an I.

Nidhi, that series is great! I read the second book not long ago and loved it as well! :D

message 292: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I'm going against the majority, when I say I didn't really like it, I've only read the first book, but it mostly felt like a filler, and that is weird for a first book in a series.

message 293: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Well, I finished another book and it ended up working for the space goal! And I was able to fill one additional new goal in as well.

Next up: Read a book that is ranked 401-500 in bestsellers on book depository ()

message 294: by Tonya (new)

Tonya | 256 comments I finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane which has darning on page 55 in the hardcover text.

message 295: by Tonya (new)

Tonya | 256 comments I have Hollow City which is #464 on the list. :)

message 296: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 456 comments Hi Team, I have finished reading Death Masks by Jim Butcher.

message 297: by Emily (new)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments Glad you liked Daughter of Smoke and Bone, Nidhi! That series is one of my absolute favorites!

message 298: by Denise (new)

message 299: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Just double checked and none of my current reads or planned books for this week (so far) will work. I have to wait until tomorrow to finish planning for another game, so maybe I'll find something there that we can use!

message 300: by Anita Reads (new)

Anita Reads | 1677 comments It seems that none of my current/planned reads are prime numbers either.
