Nicely done Soraya!
I've just finished The Girl of Fire and Thorns, which was pretty good and an easy read. Pondering whether to get the second in the series or start something else altogether.

@Jenny - hope you are not feeling too unwell

message 16: by Camille (new)

Camille (camillesbookishadventures) I was feeling quite unwell today so had to rest, but managed to read Fashion in the Time of Jane Austen tonight. It's short and informative, a good start!

Jenny Clark | 1638 comments Mod
Done book 2/4 Jenni James The Frog Prince. It was a short sweet little read.

message 27: by Veronique (new)

Veronique Started The Crown of Embers (invested in the story already). I like the unusual heroine and all the political intrigues and chess moves.

That's one detailed plan Plethora :O)

Camille - hope you feel better today.

Margie - Never heard of the Ruth Galloway series. Since I do like my mysteries, I shall have a look

Meg - oh another great looking series I didn't know!

Soraya - I really need to give the first Court of Thorns and Roses another go. I tried it a few months back and although I liked the beginning, it kind of fizzled and I put it on the side and never picked it back up...

Allison - I don't read enough historical fiction so making note of this one to be checked :O)

Sonia - I did enjoy Mitford's book too. Hope the commute went well with W&P. Haven't read this one yet although very tempted

It's kind of nice to think there's all of us, spread out in the world, intent on snatching any moment to read :O) Have a good day

Gillian, winter cleaning for you then :) Must be in the southern hemisphere! Congrats everyone, excelent progress!

message 43: by Plethora (last edited May 31, 2016 11:02PM) (new)

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 26 comments Yes, I go with the odd detailed approach because I can feel like I accomplished something at the end of the day by having somethings to cross off. If I wait to cross off an entire book I might not get that feeling of accomplishment at all during an event. As today, for example, I read from two different books. So while it looks like crazy intense planning it really is just a quick method to make it look like I've accomplished something. I tend to break the book up into 30-50 page chunks depending on how the chapters fall and what I think the week will allow me for reading blocks.

I'm able to mark 3 tasks from my list, see Message 22, before I head to bed this evening.

Somehow I managed to finish another book last night: Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer (ironically, I wrote about him in one of my last essays...).

So that's two books down, and hoping to get another two or so done!

Everyone seems to be doing so well!

message 46: by Sam F (new)

Sam F | 198 comments Finished yesterday: French Lessons: Adventures with Knife, Fork, and Corkscrew by Peter Mayle which I had previously started but never finished.

Also finished an old classic: Out of the Silent Planet by C.S. Lewis.

Today starting on: The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz - it will be interesting to see how the writing style changes.

message 47: by Holly, That Geeky One (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
Sam, that's insane progress!

What did you think of Out of the Silent Planet? I've been considering delving into C.S. Lewis' science fiction for a while, but have always been slightly hesitant!

message 48: by bittertea (new)

bittertea finished Cress yesterday, gonna work on Six of Crows next. excited to see everyone's progress! + lots of great books getting mentioned here.

Holly wrote: "Somehow I managed to finish another book last night: Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer (ironically, I wrote about him in one of my last essays..."

did you like annihilation? it's not for everyone but i really enjoyed it. (i almost wish it was a stand-alone, tho -- the sequel's very different, didn't quite work for me.)

message 49: by Veronique (new)

Veronique Second book finished this morning The Crown of Embers, and more than half way through Fuzzy Nation.

Now I really want to finish the series (The Bitter Kingdom) but I also want to start Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe AAAHHHH

message 50: by Kathryn (new)

That's a good idea. You are able to see more progress being made. It looks too time-consuming for me to do, since it would initially take away from reading time.
