MountainKat | 30250 comments Information required when posting your completion/s:

Task
Book/cover link
Page numbers with source
How book qualified, with links or cover as necessary.
Date Completed.
Rating/Review.

**Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count only! If your page count comes from a Kindle edition published on the initial publication date on the editions page, it will count. If your page count comes from a Kindle edition labeled '1st edition', it will count. If your page count comes from the earliest dated English language Kindle edition, it will count. I am looking for one of those three things when confirming your books! As long the page count you list is correct, I will accept any link to the book. Ebook page count will be acceptable if no Kindle page count available. The acceptability of other page counts will be made on an individual basis.**

Please note that a rating is now required in your completion posts! A small review is also welcome. 😊

MountainKat | 30250 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

Remember, it is the team's responsibility to notify the host (me) if a teammate fails to complete the task in a timely manner or otherwise goes missing! I am not checking all the team threads regularly to notice and may only check when notified a task is complete.

PS - Nope, you don't get the option to change your name. 😂

~KarenH~ | 10958 comments Hey everyone! I think I have us organized, at least enough to get started!

The most recent list of recommendations I found for each of us is in message #5, take a look at yours and see if you want to make any changes. Also, message #12 has a list of all (I hope) tasks that we either need to make a decision on or might want to change what we've done in the past. If everyone could take a few minutes to go through that and make any suggestions/changes, we'll be on our way!

It's great to have the team back together again!

Courtney | 2931 comments Some other author suggestions

Sarina Bowen, Kylie Scott, Helena Hunting, Sarah MacLean

For series, I liked that vino & veritas one because they don't need to be read in order, so something like that would be nice. I think Busy Bean was another one? Just no on the Moo U for me, though. I tried two different ones from that series and they were both dnfs. Wasn't there a library one too? Maybe based on a Penny Reid series? Greeneville library?

Yes, I like that idea too, especially for #82 where we all have to read different books. Speakeasy Taproom is another in that group...here's a link: /series/3081...
There are links to all the other series set in that world at the top of that series page.

This was the other one I was thinking of too

I don't think any of the books in those series are by her, Chan. They're based in the world of her True North series, but by all different authors. Most (but not all) of the authors are new/unfamiliar to me, but that's probably a good thing...this challenge is about the only place I get pushed out of my comfortable little cocoon and try new authors!

I'm fine with leaving Sarina Bowen off the list of potential authors...I've really been enjoying the True North series, but don't need to have her as one of our authors here to read it! 😁

message 23: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 10958 comments Here are the authors that have been mentioned up to this point, leaving off Christina Lauren and Sarina Bowen (since we have plenty of options without them). If anyone wants to remove any others, just let me know, then once we're down to a final list we can decide which ones we want for the tasks. We need 3...1. Each member reads a book by the author, 51. Each member reads a DIFFERENT book by the author, and 73. Team reads 1500 pages by the author.

Here's the list so far:
Ilona Andrews, Melinda Leigh, Josh Lanyon, Meghan Quinn, Ruby Dixon, Susan Mallery, TJ Klune, Darynda Jones, Vi Keeland, Molly Harper, Jill Shalvis, Robyn Carr, Kylie Scott, Helena Hunting, Sarah MacLean

message 24: by Courtney (last edited Sep 11, 2022 06:22PM) (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Vi Keeland and Ruby Dixon would probably be my top two, but mostly because I know I pretty much like anything they do 🤣

Meghan Quinn I would feel the iffiest about. I've dnf'ed a few of her books already.

I've always wanted to try an Ilona Andrews book and just haven't gotten around to it, so that might be good for me. Sarah MacLean would be good too if we want something non-contemporary to mix things up.

message 25: by Chan (new)

Chan | 4998 comments So let's get rid of Quinn.

I'm good with using Keeland and Dixon for either the author task or series task.

I agree with Courtney about mixing it up, so let's add MacLean somewhere. I've been wanting to get back to her Bareknuckle series, but it's not long enough to list for a series task.

We should also add Ilona Andrews somewhere. Courtney you have to give them a try. I think Karen turned me on to their books.

message 26: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (last edited Sep 11, 2022 06:57PM) (new)

~KarenH~ | 10958 comments Why don't we tentatively say Vi Keeland, Sarah MacLean and Ilona Andrews, and wait to make it final until we hear from Liz. We did Ruby Dixon in a previous round and if I remember correctly she wasn't impressed.

message 27: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 10958 comments As far as series go, we need 2. So far we have suggested:
Hidden Legacy, Ice Planet Barbarians, Elder Races, Temptation (Frank), Charley Davidson, Mystic Bayou, Virgin River, Lucky Harbor, Busy Bean, Speakeasy Taproom, and Green Valley Library.

I would suggest removing Ice Planet Barbarians (same reasoning as above), and I'm really hit or miss with Ella Frank, so would rather not do Temptation. A lot of the others would be rereads for me, but I'm perfectly happy with that.

message 28: by Chan (new)

Chan | 4998 comments Oh. i don't remember that. then yes, let's definitely remove Dixon if Liz didn't like it.

Let's also cross off Ice Planet and Ella Frank's works. There are too many options available to read something that one of us doesn't like.

Many of the other's would be rereads for me too, but I'm happy with it also.

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 697 comments Sorry my daughter got an ear infection this weekend. I’m cool with whatever. I must admit I wasn’t a big fan of the Dixon book I read last time, but I’m always happy to give it another shot.

message 30: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 10958 comments Oh no! I hope she feels better soon!

We have lots of suggestions for both books and series, so there's no reason for us to pick one that someone has had a less than pleasant experience with...the rest of us have all vetoed authors too.

message 31: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 697 comments I’ve read through the postings so far I also enjoy Helena Hunting, Sarah MacLean, and have always wanted to try Ilona Andrew’s. Vi Keeland I think I’ve read once and really enjoyed it.

Other thoughts on task
50. New York is always easiest pick, but I can find something for any location.
52. Most my current books either have Blue, Red or pink covers. Blue being the dominating color.
54. I don’t really care either way. I have a bunch of books with either of them.

message 32: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 10958 comments Liz, do you want to update your book recommendations at all, or are you good with what is posted in msg #5?

message 33: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I think using Busy Beans, Taproom, or Green Valley Library makes the most sense for the one where we all have to pick a different book from the same series. I'm really cool with any of them, so whatever you all feel like. If we want a regular series for the other one, Lucky Harbor seems easy (although rereads for Karen and Chan I think). Another option would be that Wildes of Lindow Castle from Elosia James. I'm pretty sure we had her or that series for two of the challenges and never got around to it. I'm also cool with her Fairy Tale series if that sounds better. The first book was *chef's kiss*, so I've been meaning to get back to it.

I've heard the US is bracing for a really rough flu season this year for that same reason. Since we haven't really had a flu season the last 2 years there's not a lot of residual immunity hanging around in the general population. Jane said that Australia's flu season was really bad this year, and we tend to follow right along behind them...

message 39: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments I imagine! Likely we'll have similar issues. I usually don't do the flu vaccine, but I think this year we will.

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 697 comments Thanks everyone! My daughter is feeling so much better. We were able to get her into the doctor earlier today. With the meds the doctor gave us she was able to sleep through the night. I’ll be so happy when it’s over! This is her first year of school. Everyone warned us she would probably get sick a lot since she’s not used to being around this many kids. Lol they were not lying!

message 41: by Chan (new)

Chan | 4998 comments Glad she is feeling better, Liz. My niece's introduction to Pre-K was rough. Not sure how she passed. She spent more days home sick than in school. And this was waaaaaay before COVID.

message 42: by Chan (new)

Chan | 4998 comments We start tomorrow...YAY! is there anything else you need from us, Karen? It's so much easier when we have things decided when we get a new call.

I will say very early, if something requires a decision and it's something we haven't decided yet, please don't wait for me. Go ahead and choose. I can find a book to fit.

My youngest spent basically from the beginning of his kindergarten year until Christmas break on antibiotics! He had strep over and over - literally off antibiotics for three days and then the school would call halfway through the day because he was sick with a high fever that he didn't have in the morning. Back to the doctor, another positive strep test and more antibiotics. Doctor finally put him on a maintenance dose for a month in December and that worked for several months afterwards. He did get strep once or twice more that year, but never like it was in the beginning! He didn't miss that much school though because 24 hours on antibiotics and he was fine. 🤷🏻‍♀ (And he was in a preschool/daycare several days a week before that, so it wasn't like he hadn't been around other kids before. Or had older siblings bring home all the germs. 🙄)

Glad your daughter is doing better!

I'll say the same as Chan - if I'm ever not around and a decision needs to be made, just start without me! Although I'm probably more likely to be around than the rest of you since Kat and I are in the same time zone, and also tend to have somewhat similar schedules.

I went ahead and just made a few decisions (flipped a few coins, figuratively) in cases where we had things narrowed down but not completely decided. If anyone sees anything that they'd rather go a different direction with, just let me know...obviously nothing is set in stone, but we're all so stinking agreeable that it's hard for us to make decisions sometimes! 🤣🤣🤣

We've got three left that we should probably narrow down if we can:

9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.
I put the Green Valley Library series in where we all need to read different books since they're not really sequential (even though they're numbered), but we never narrowed things down for this task. Suggestions we have are: Hidden Legacy, Elder Races, Charley Davidson, Mystic Bayou, Virgin River, Lucky Harbor

52. Read 6 books with the same color cover, teams decide color.
Suggested so far: Black, Gray, White, Blue, Red, Pink...no multiple votes

75. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.
Suggested so far: A, B, H, L, R, S, T

message 45: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Nolly (booknerdchats) | 697 comments My vote for number 9 is blue. I have a million books with blue on the cover.

message 46: by Chan (new)

Chan | 4998 comments For Task 9, let's go with Hidden Legacy if we don't have Ilona Andrews listed somewhere.

For Task 52, I can go with Liz's suggestion - blue.

We have Ilona Andrews for one of the author tasks.

Blue is fine with me...looking at my M&G picking shelf, I have a whole bunch of 'non-color' books...dark, but multi-colored so nothing really stands out, so I'm going to have to hunt for something no matter what we choose!

message 48: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new)

~KarenH~ | 10958 comments Ok, I put blue in for #52.

Also, #75 is far enough down the list that we shouldn't see it for a while (if at all) so if we want to wait a little longer (until M&G picks are done, or at least in progress) we can do that...just need to remember to get back to it!

message 49: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 2931 comments Blue is fine for me.

If Ilona Andrews is covered by another task, then I would vote for Lucky Harbor for the series task unless you all have had enough of Jill Shalvis 🤣. I've actually had Happily Inc on my TBR for a while, and it seems similar in style if you'd all like to try something new.
