PtP Around a Book in 80 days (T1)

2. Tour Guide (Captain) - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)
3. Name your team. Using this round's theme, come up with a fun name. Given we are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)
Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by 4 April
4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2. (It will also help with one of the categories in this round!)
5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including links to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!
* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full in that post.
You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.
I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.
Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.
6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation, etc.
7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.
8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.
9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)
10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A/Announcement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.
The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week Option 2 has altered and I will be allocating each team another team from which their book selection must be chosen :)

For selection post Option 1 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please note which qualifying bookshelf/list you are using or the tags that justifies that it works.
If the theme is based off the bookcover, post the cover. If there is a letter count in the title, publication date etc, please note these details.
For selection post Option 2 you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.
For selection post Option 3 you must have:
Week #
PASS
For the completion post you must have:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)
Review
Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.
If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.
IF YOU NEED TO CORRECT A POST FOR MISSING INFORMATION or because the didn't qualify etc, please REPOST this information in a NEW post. Its difficult to find older posts when going backwards in the threads.

You definitely have to suspend your disbelief here because more happens to Molly in less than a week than happens to most people in their lifetimes. But she's a fun, plucky character and I enjoyed following her adventures. And the setting - NYC at the turn of the 20th century - is fascinating.

Book: The Maid's Room
Author: Fiona Mitchell
Page number: 320 pages
Qualifications Psynopsis: 'This is where she sleeps. A cupboard. A bedroom. A windowless box.'
Sisters Dolly and Tala have never felt further from home. In the blistering heat of Singapore, they spend their days enabling ex-pats to have lives they could never afford for themselves.
Even though she has little freedom, Dolly can just about live with her job if it means she's able to support her beloved young daughter back in the Philippines. One day - if she's lucky - Dolly may even be able to go back and see her.
Tala, however, just can't keep her mouth shut about the restrictive, archaic rules maids are forced to abide by on pain of deportation. She risks everything to help her fellow maids, who have struggled to have their voices heard for far too long.
In a world where domestic workers are treated so poorly, The Maid's Room explores how women can come together to change each other's lives, and be the architects of their own futures.

Review: This had all the feeling between love and hate. I didn't like Tates' dad. Mom was sweet and caring. Tate definitely needed to learn a lot and there were moments when she annoyed me. I feel like she didn't learn anything with all the years before Sam and Tate see each other again.

Review: An angsty love story with a morally gray lead male character. Alex and Ava both had challenging childhoods and each came out of the challenges of the past handling a different way. Ava focuses on the positive, Alex has shut himself off emotionally until Ava breaks through his icy wall. Overall a great story, and even though you know his morally gray lifestyle will cause a big problem in their relationship, the resolution is more than satisfying.

Review: There are books that I am happy that I borrow through the library. The Maid's Room is one of those books. The summary looks interesting, but the execution of the plot felt not engaging. On the other hand, it is important to read books with subject that open our minds on subject how people treat their domestic help because of status. The author's note is what made me give higher rating. If you don't like cheating in your books this book isn't for you.

Review:
On the surface this was fine - a blend of British women's fiction with a bit of Under the Tuscan Sun: At Home in Italy. But the more I read, the more it bothered me. All the characterizations were thin, and the 'romance' was blah. No chemistry. And I had a hard time believing that the FMC was so naive as to think that the TV show wouldn't include some drama. Probably I was just overthinking it, but none of it made much sense to me.
OTOH, the cover is lovely.

Review: Secret Pleasure is the second installment in the secret series. The Truth is the first book of the series I read in March last year. I liked the plot of the second book more. The story wasn't far-fetched.
Aislea & Dante’s relationship is more romantic and, maybe because the setting of this story is set in Italy 🇮🇹, in one place and not traveling around I enjoyed it more.
Because of Dante’s injury, they couldn't travel a lot. While reading I felt I was at Dominico & Kathleen's villa/mansion.
Florentina, Dante's aunt, is a witch. Because she was a mother figure to Dante she doesn't have to treat people he loves and are part of his life to treat them like he doesn't deserve to be in Dante's life.
Hopefully, it won't take another year to pick up and finish the “Secret trilogy.

This series is compelling and drags you in to know the experience of the four women for different reasons committed to a marriage auction for money and the men who purchased them. Even though the book was in segments switching from one couple to the next I didn't get lost and the complex mature nature with some violent subjects that is contributed to the author very well written work. I would definitely recommend this series.
