Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments What is it about the full moon that makes it such a feature in paranormal and other romance novels. There are so many myths to do with the full moon, to include:
1. Sleeping under the light of a full Moon will make a woman pregnant.
2. A full Moon during harvest means a good crop.
3. A new Moon brings good fortune.
4. Werewolves howl and witches ride during a full moon

If anyone has read The Girl Who Chased the Moon, they would know that each full moon that occurs has a different name, and thus a new challenge is born!

Read the Full Moons

August 24th - Sturgeon Moon
September 23rd - Harvest Moon
October 22nd - Hunter’s Moon
November 21st - Beaver Moon
December 21st - Cold Moon
January 19th - Wolf Moon
February 18th - Snow Moon
March 19th - Worm Moon
April 17th - Pink Moon
May 17th - Flower Moon
June 15th - Strawberry Moon
July 15th - Buck Moon

Group 1 - August 24 to December 20
Sturgeon Moon - book that involves water: water scene on the cover, setting in a boat/ship, character’s job that involves water, or a Viking Romance
Harvest Moon - book sets in farm/ranch, character is a rancher/farmer, or has a rural scene on the cover or a Western Romance
Hunter’s Moon - book that has a number in the title, or a road romance, where somebody is on the run or being hunted
Beaver Moon - has an animal on the cover, or has a ‘significant animal character in the story

Group 2 - December 21st to April 16th
Cold Moon - Book that has a dark cover, set during the Dark Ages (Medieval Romance)
Wolf Moon - Book that has a moon or wolf on the cover, a werewolf/shifter romance
Snow Moon - Book that has a Winter Scene on cover, or set during winter or a cold country/place
Worm Moon -Book that has Spring scene cover, has a rake/rouge hero (okay he is not exactly worm, but close enough...LOL!), or has the word Spring in the title

Group 3 - April 17th to August 23rd
Pink Moon - Book that has a Pink/Red Cover or has a courtesan, mistress or prostitute character
Flower Moon - Book that has Flowers on the Cover or in the Title or a chick-lit book
Strawberry Moon - Fruit on the Cover or title or an GLBT romance
Buck Moon - Weather scene on the cover or in the title or Read an interracial romance (buck is slang for a young black guy)

There will be 3 levels that you can chose from:
Moon-Walker - Read 1 book that fits each of the categories during the Challenge
Moon-Strider - Read 2 books that fit each category
Moon-Runner - Read 3 books that fit each

Make sure to indicate which level you are going to participate in when you sign up. You can increase your speed, but not decrease...i.e. you can go from Moon-Walker to Moon-Strider, but not Moon-Strider to Moon-Walker...and most importantly - Have Fun!!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Wow, a mooning challenge? *pulls on elastic waist shorts* Sounds interesting.

message 3: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments thanks for the visual!! way to cause me to have nightmares before i go to sleep ;)

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Thanks to the internet you can probably find a hard copy to see if it matches your dreams.

I can see finding a book that relates to each of the moon names. Sturgeon might be a bit tough. Maybe something featuring a fish or perhaps where they eat a lot of caviar (mainly gotten from sturgeon). Of course I picture a comedy mockup of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" video a'la Weird Al Yankovic called "Like a Sturgeon"

Like a Sturgeon
spawning fo the very first time
Like a Sturgeon
when you fins slap

message 5: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'm in. I'll post later.

Macwolf01 [Elise] (macwolf01) | 1012 comments I'm in ... how long do we have to complete the name? Until the next full moon?

message 7: by Laura Lulu (last edited Aug 12, 2010 10:58AM) (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) Dee, do we do the word "Moon" each month, or only the 1st word? And is it only title, or can we also use author's name? I want to double check it if's doable for me before I say I'm in. :)

message 8: by Dee (last edited Aug 12, 2010 01:06PM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Just the first name...i.e. Sturgeon...

and yes, so the first month's challenge will run from Aug 24 to September 22 (day prior to the next full moon)

title and or author, same as the read the month challenges

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Officially I won't be in. Sorry. After the 10 categories for the monthly, the pick it for me, and the FAC, I just don't have the time. But I'll be pulling for you all to finish.

message 10: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments ur just going to moon us right???

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Would I do such a thing?

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments uh-huh...

message 13: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (shewolf0316) | 0 comments I might do it but we'll see what the challenges look like. Ithink it would be cool to do a quarterly challenge also that builds on this one, where during the three months you have to read one book that fits each moon, like the game one we're doing now and the women one we did before.

message 14: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 4413 comments Sure, why not?!

message 15: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments hey kelley that sounds interesting...lol (why didn't I think of that...)...there may be some changes pending...haha!!

message 18: by Dee (last edited Aug 14, 2010 05:09PM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments i know me too....but a lot of the letters for this one do overlap august and september, so I think that will help

message 19: by Beth F (new)

Beth F How creative!

message 20: by AmandaG (new)

AmandaG (amandag3) | 254 comments My vote is to change it to a yearly as I'm a sucker for a challenge, and can't say no, so I'm already on challenge overload. Doing this yearly/quarterly as you put in option 2, I think, would work out great!

message 21: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments thanks Amanda...since you're the only one who has said anything...lol!! And I talked to Yz - I'll post a revised challenge tonight!

message 22: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12212 comments Yay! I would love to do this one Dee, and if you make it quarterly/yearly I'm in. I don't think I can fit it in monthly.

message 23: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments yeah, its going to be a yearly challenge, i'll post later on today hopefully - Yz and I are tweaking some of the categories

message 24: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1381 comments Good. I think yearly challenge would be so great. Maybe then I can do this one. Lol, I am sooo blaming you for another challenge Dee.

message 25: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments agreed, once it is done as a yearly I will probably not be able to resist any longer :)

message 26: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Willshire (lillyobrian) | 64 comments I agree. I think the yearly would be best as I just started the 10 book Read the month August challenge. So I'm behind in that and I just started the RRRC and I am over a month behind that. Needless to say I would really like to do this one. I haven't done a challenge like this before so I think it would be interesting and fun. :)

Wicked ♥ (Wickedly Bookish Reviews) aka Bat-Jess | 130 comments I would love to join if it is yearly. I tend to sign up for too many monthly challenges, but I really love the concept of the full moons of this one! Can't wait to hear more.

message 28: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments revised rules posted in the first Msg!! Each section will run 4 moons or 4months. You have the option of reading 1, 2, or 3 books per moon

message 29: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12212 comments I'm in Dee! I will be a Moon-Walker but I have a feeling I will add more as time goes on. Will post list later.

Start Date - Aug. 24th- Dec. 20th

message 30: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Yz helped me tweak the categories...she is really an evil genius in disguise!

message 31: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments lol, love it, ugh, moon runner is 3 books for each moon? 36 books, am I understanding that right?

ummm - I think I will go with moon walker and see if I can do better, but wow that is a lot - post later also.

evil genius she is, I love doing your guys challenges.

message 32: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments yep, so 36 books through the year...it works out to 12 every 4 months or 3 a month!

Debbie wrote: "lol, love it, ugh, moon runner is 3 books for each moon? 36 books, am I understanding that right?

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments I will be a Moon Walker too. Great challenge!

message 43: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 4413 comments I'll start as a Moon Walker as well, but hope to move up a level - which leads to a question: if we move up to the next or even *gasp* highest level in the first quarter, does that also move us up automatically for all quarters, or are they independent choices?

Tina "IRead2Escape" (tinar1121) | 1292 comments I'm in. I believe I will be a moon walker. Starting conservative since I am so not sure about my case load around the holidays.

Will post my choices soon.

message 46: by Erin (last edited Aug 18, 2010 04:37PM) (new)

Erin H Can't wait to start this one!! I'll post my list soon :))
... I think I'll try moon-strider and see how it goes!!

message 47: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments each is independat (im not feeling that devious)...but if you say starting out as a Runner in each third...you can't drop back..

BJ Rose wrote: "I'll start as a Moon Walker as well, but hope to move up a level - which leads to a question: if we move up to the next or even *gasp* highest level in the first quarter, does that also move us up ..."

message 48: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) | 394 comments I'm in, definitely a moon-walker!! Will post later.

message 49: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) Ok, I'm putting myself down for Moon Walker. I might do more but I'm already in ssooo many challenges, I figure I'd better just give myself the option of only 1 book per category "just in case."

Lizz (Beer, Books and Boos) | 809 comments I'm going in as a moon walker might do more
