Steph (angel4492) | 32584 comments Hey Daffodil,
LOL! "apparently I have a problem, somebody call an exorcist" None needed, that's a good problem to have. ;)

Nah, you won't have any problem jumping from PC to ME. At least w/ME, there wasn't much Pack crossover and what was there was different from those in her Pack bks. Go for it! Hope you like it!

Steph (angel4492) | 32584 comments Wolfsbane (Nightshade #2) by Andrea Cremer

Shelf: demons
Read: 28 Aug
Rating: ★★★★
Review: I FLEW through this book. I picked it up with the intention of checking out the first chapter. Before I knew it I was almost 20% in and ready to keep going. I had some unexpected alone time today and enjoyed being able to escape into the book.

The story picks up right where Nightshade left off. You'll have to forgive the short review, but it's hard to write one without spoilers. Basically, the first half of the book had little action, but LOTS of revelations about the true history for the Guardians, Keepers and Searchers. We learn more about Shay, meet a lot of new people and don't see much of Calla's pack. The second half held the action.

I did have some issues with Calla's roller-coaster feelings, but she is a teenager (with no school drama, I sometimes forget that) so it's understandable, I guess. As with the first book, the ending leaves us at a point where, if we had book #3, we could walk right into the next scene. But, alas, no Bloodrose yet. And, it's not expected until Feb 2012, so, thanks for that, Ms. Cremer. LOL!

I look forward to continuing on with the series.

Vi | 943 comments Wow Steph, that was fast. Is Nightshade good? I have heard conflicting reviews about that one.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Daffodil no - that is not necessary.

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Sorry I didn't see that Steph had already responded. Celine I wasnt a big fan of Graceling either. daffodil I say read City of Ghosts. :)

So I am completely torn! These are my choices. I have them all. I should probably read a book in a series I already started v. starting a new series. But here is my list.

Ìý Queen of the Darkness (The Black Jewels, #3) by Anne Bishop Ill Wind (Weather Warden, #1) by Rachel Caine A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between (Rhiannon's Law #1) by J.A. Saare Witch Fire (Elemental Witches, #1) by Anya Bast The Wages of Sin (Cin Craven, #1) by Jenna Maclaine Moonshine (Cal Leandros, #2) by Rob Thurman Hell Fire (Corine Solomon, #2) by Ann Aguirre Haunted (Women of the Otherworld, #5) by Kelley Armstrong Bitten to Death (Jaz Parks, #4) by Jennifer Rardin This Side of the Grave (Night Huntress, #5) by Jeaniene Frost Curse the Dawn (Cassandra Palmer, #4) by Karen Chance

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Lucky Regina! What great choices. Here are my recs:

1. Bitten to Death LOVE Jaz. My DD's friend has loaned the whole series to her and now I really want to reread them all......

2. This Side of the Grave Ahhhhh, Cat and Bones. Need I say more? This one is on it's way to me from PBS. I can hardly wait!!!!

3. Curse the Dawn I haven't gotten this far in the series, but I'm anxious to continue. Cassie is always good!

5. Queen of the Darkness I LOVED this trilogy! It was loaned to me by another of DD's friends several years ago. I devoured all 3 books in less than a week...... I had to buy my own copy. I'm still collecting the rest of the series. Want to have all of them before I delve back into it.

6. Witch Fire I really enjoy Anya Bast and these did not disappoint! Definitely more PnR than UF, so if you don't like steamy, probably not for you......

7. Haunted Love Eve and Savannah. This is a great series!

8. Dead, Undead, or Somewhere in Between I liked it - but it didn't blow me away like it did for some....

The rest I have TBR too.....

Amanda A | 812 comments Blood Law (Blood Moon Trilogy, #1) by Karin Tabke
Finished 8/27
★★★★

Blood Law is an enjoyable beginning to a trilogy. The history of the Vulkasin pack and their vendetta with the Slayers develops into a very intriguing world. Rafael and his brother Lucien were Alphas of the pack until it was split and the Blood Law invoked in retribution after Rafael killed his brother's mate, who also happened to be a Slayer in disguise. The Blood Law requires a mate for a mate so Rafael has never taken a mate until he meets Falon, who is half Lycan and half Slayer. The vengeance between the brothers makes for a thrilling read, not to mention the sizzling romance. My only objection is that the ending is a dreaded cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next book in February!

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Finished my shifter book 8/27 3 stars. The Mane Event (Pride, #1) by Shelly Laurenston

I loved the first story in this book. I couldn't put it down and I will give the first story 4 stars. But by the second story, I think I needed a break and the fact that I knew how the story would end and the basic theme of the story made me slightly bored. So I am rating the book overall 3 stars. I love the way Shelley Laurentsen writes shifters. Her stories are light, fun and sexy. She writes men passionate for their women in such an intriguing way. In the first story, I enjoyed the added element that the female protag was a "dog person" in that she loved dogs and was really put off that her man was a cat (lion) -- not that he was a shifter!

Fun quick reads. :)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I think I am going to read Hell Fire (Corine Solomon, #2) by Ann Aguirre for my demon shelf. I would likely never read it otherwise -- I have been reluctant to continue on in this series for over a year. But I love Sirantha Jax so much and I am finishing up Enclave right now and enjoying that -- so I feel the need to go on in another Ann Aguirre series. :)

message 365: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32584 comments Vi, I really enjoyed Nightshade. The mythology and life of the young pack. The second book was such a quick read. I normally don't read that fast. I wish there had been more action in the 2nd, but still enjoyed it.

Great list, Regina. And rec list, Cindy. I still haven't read that series, are you enjoying it? I'm guessing yes, since you're going for book #2.

I enjoyed that part of ME too, Regina. I was crackin' up when Mace's (were) friends were raggin' on him for being in love with dog person. Too funny!

Yay! On our way to another stamp! Actually very close to TWO! Yippeee! Go, team, Go!

Regina,

Love the Black Jewels trilogy, but understand your reasoning for choosing the Corine Solomon book. I've not felt any urgent need to read book 2 either and I've enjoyed both her Sirantha Jax and Skin (under Ava Gray) series.

message 369: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Daffodil #3 for the Black Jewels trilogy is on my to read list for this month anyway -- I will definitely be reading that one -- along with most of the others I listed above. Hell Fire is the only one I am iffy about, so I am going to use this challenge to force me to get it done! :)

Isn't it funny how different her series are?

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments ok... I am finished with Marked (Eternal Guardians, #1) by Elisabeth Naughton This book was so perfect for me! I finished 8/29/11 and give it ★★★★.

I loved it because it is a total cross between Greek Myth & PR!

A girl who hasn't really been accepted in anywhere in her life works at a strip club as a waitress... no stipping for her. She runs into a man in the back parking lot, an Argonaut, who is being beat up by demons. She takes him home, gets him well, and he decides he's having sex with her... no biggie. He has her ready to go and sees a mark, stops & leaves her! just bye!

Later, he finds out he was hunting her in the first place because an oracle says the same thing as in Harry Potter basically. Bring them together and the strong survives. Blah blah blah... There are tons of characters you know we will hear more about later, so pay attn to who is who.

This book seems to be a cross between SKenyons & GShowalter... all the good! I can see if people don't like the Greek Myth of it and lower the ratings, but it's a great twist of PNR & GM!!

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments Don't get me wrong... I do not give all 5 stars. I am reading a book right now that is HOOOORRRIBLE! I may just drop it and move on! Cheeeezy!! AHHHH! But, I was looking for simple smut, and I got it! It's just to creepy weird... Im not going to bad mouth the author yet, she may redeem herself, but I'm just not seeing it. It reads like an 70 y/o woman fantasizing about herself back in the day, tried to make it modern, and it just won't fly... I have not seen her picture yet, and now I want to finish the book before I do. Heebie jeebies corny!

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments Dark Warrior Unleashed (Talions, #1) by Alexis Morgan

This was my book! I give it ★★!! It was so cheesy & dated! NO ONE talks like that!! AND What the hell is a Kyth! She forgot to mention anything beyond an energy sucking viking who lives a very long time. Sooo what about a girl Kyth? Hmmm... Also, my cover problem. This dude is supposed to be a very large redhead. That's all I know about him at all as far as looks. I don't know who the hell this small black haired guy on the cover is! Maybe the bad guy??? Below are some great lines from the book...

she's out clubbing???

"As the music warmed her up, she let it loose and let it all go. Swaying & spinning losing herself in the moment."

"Kerry had been watching the dancers, especially one couple with paticularly dazzling moves. Their intricate, fast-stepping dance patterns bespoke a lot of pracctice & hard work, even if they were making it look easy."

OK Salsa time - in a club.

"with a flick of his wrist, he spun her out & then back into his waiting arms. Dipping her over his arm, he was caught by her gaze....." geeeeezzz!

Foreplay - at her apartment.

"From the moment she'd sashayed across the roomafter inviting him in, all the blood in his head had plummeted to pool painfully much lower down." ooookkkk...

She's making dinner-

"come sit down at the table while i put the final touches on dinner!"

Someone is dying in this book. Kidnapped & being tortured... So what do they do? Stop at a restaurant, wait for a booth, eat... the other guy with them says he's getting a coffee to go go & the main couple go out under a tree and he gives her an orgasm??
Have you heard of a drive thru? Keep your hands to yourself until after the rescue!!!

The whole book read like this... I just threw some out. I am going to keep reading this series though because it was soooo bad. I can't imagine it getting better. I think someone edited the ending of the book, because it was less - Stupidly worded?? I dunno! I saw her picture, and I WAS RIGHT!!! OLD!

Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger - 4 stars
I really liked this book. It's a great mix between historical and paranormal fiction. I especially liked that Ms Carriger incorporated the Victorian sensibilities in the story. Even vampires and werewolves follow the insane social rules, making for terrible well behaved monsters. Would love to read the next book in the series.

♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments I have read so much, that I just found a box of abandoned books! Books I started, and I was bored into quitting! I think after I read this book I will spend the week finishing them. It seems they have only about 1/5 of the way to go! I am not sure why I would read that much anyway if I abandoned it. Now I feel like I have unfinished business!

Does anyone else have a box like that?

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments Not me. I almost always finish a book once I start it, no matter how bad it is. I think I have a total of 3 books here I haven't finished yet.

2 were books for games on PBS that got damaged while I was reading. Ended up having to order undamaged copies to be sent out for the games, so just kinda quit where I was. 1 of those I still plan to finish, just as soon as I catch up a little more....

The other book was just not holding my interest at all.....I would put it aside to read something else, came back to it 2 or 3 times, but never did manage to finish it. Finally decided if it was that easy to leave alone that I didn't need to worry about it any more!

Hope everyone is doing well! Sorry I've been AWOL for a bit. We had family visit from the US, hubby's been on holiday for 1+ month and Uni's keepin' me busy. Hoping to be able to catch my breath here soon and catch up on my GR biz. Didn't get much readin' done in Aug either. ♡ Sassy ~ Amy ♡ | 494 comments I finished my book. It was great! Moonlight Warrior (Midnight Bay, #1) by Janet Chapman I give it ★★★★! I could give it 5, but I had no warning it was a spin off from Charming the Highlander (Highlander, #1) by Janet Chapman series. It was much better than the original... I think. Only because I just read the first one. That was good, but to many weird quirps. Soooo. For my review.

A little divorced woman (Eve) moves home with her ailing mother only to find out her mothers recently diseased husband's brother sold their huge property to someone giving them 5 days to move out. The purchaser (Kenzie) is a highlander thrown forward in time hundreds of years. He is the protector of lost souls. A witch turns people into other things... panthers, dragons, hawks etc. & he protects them. They need all this property and this bay in Maine to hide them. Blah blah blah. Sometimes it's funny as hell, but I am seeing a commonality in her stories already that the women are so fast to declare their love... whatever!

Anyway, it was funny! Full of magic, action, romance snarkie stubborn women. etc. I just wish I had known about the spin off! I would have missed a bunch of basic info, that just this first "Highlander" series gave. I can see a problem if you missed the first book in the other series. It was so worth the read though! I wish it would go on, but it has been deemed a trilogy.

I'm still reading Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne for the Demon shelf -- decided to go with it since it's also a BOM.

Then for supernatural, plenty to choose from, but I'm starting a Buddy Read of The Accidental Werewolf (Accidental Friends, #1) by Dakota Cassidy and luckily, it's on the shelf. Thank you to those 7 people, whoever you are.

I'm telling you! I had a 3 column list printed out on a sheet, and decided to take some names off because I already have most of their series. I have new names now that just missed because I decided not to stray too far off the list.

Now I have found so many new good ones, I just have to drop all the "given"s off my list like JR WARD, KMMoning, SKenyon, and replace them with the newbies.
