Anita | 3313 comments The only things I watch Jud are nature programs, Downton Abbey & a good murder story, but nothing else, I also have to be in a "telly mood" It's much nicer sitting down with a good book, & a small glass of something nice of course.

message 102: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments I watch Man vs Food too Jud! Well I have only just started watching it, if I am honest. The only thing I have watched in the last few weeks though is Sherlock. I'll usually watch Come Dine With Me if it's on, but I haven't even bothered with that for a few weeks.

message 103: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I've read 7 books but only 1 by our authors :o( I plan on rectifying this asap. Next book is 1 of Mel's

message 108: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments I've just realised I have a bunch of books from last year in my "have read" collection that I haven't added to my goodreads books before I became a member. My OCD is now bugging me to add them. I wonder if I add them with a read date of 31-Dec-2011 if it will mess up my challenge of 30 books read this year. Hmmm, I might need to test one out.

message 109: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments It shouldn't affect it if you put the date as last year

message 110: by Harry (new)

Harry Nicholson (harrynicholson) | 209 comments You keen readers are amazing, I'd never get through a tenth of what you read in a year. I'm slow and, if the prose is choice, I often re-read a paragraph several times over just to savour the words.

message 111: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments How lovely Harry... I'm the contrary, if I read a sentence, I always have to read the next one and the next one and the next one becuase I have to find out what's next !

Hey everyone ! 5% left in DD's book ! I'll make it YOOHOO !

message 112: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I did it! Finished Broken City !!

message 113: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh I re-read phrases, paragraphs, etc Harry - yours and Corenlius Harker's have had the multi-re-read treatment!

message 114: by Harry (new)

Harry Nicholson (harrynicholson) | 209 comments That's cheering, Ignite. I'm encouraged to take a look at Cornelius' writing.
This place in Shropshire (Ellesmere . . . I might be in Wales) has wi fi, so I'm online.

message 115: by Anita (last edited Jan 13, 2012 10:21AM) (new)

Anita | 3313 comments I also re-read phrases just to enjoy & savour but I also have a beautiful Wedgwood leather note book with top quality paper in it so it is a pleasure to use, in it I write poems I love, sayings, phrases from books, poems my daughter has written me &........... well just about anything I enjoy about the english written word.
(There are already s few of yours in there Harry, I also note which book & author so I don't forget & look out for anything else from that author like a sequel should said author decide to wrtite one of course) he he he he :)

message 116: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Ohhh I can feel the pressure now Karl !

message 117: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Karl wrote: "Lol, I'm surprised how quickly I got through the Wilbur Smith, it said it was 400 pages but I don't believe it for a minute. I did it in 3 days :s"

Maybe it's huge print.

message 118: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Are you trying to add to the pressure Karl? Trying to get me to match your 400page/3day challenge?

message 119: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm now up to 5 of our author's books. That's a quarter of the challenge I set myself so I've gone back to TP for now to keep that challenge going.

message 120: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments 3 were short stories though so it's kind of false statistics!

message 121: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Karl wrote: "No Lorraine, that was just a complete surprise. I expected it to take at least another day to get finished.
I'll be a little slower till monday, I don't read as much over the weekend. Too busy writ..."

Phew, good, you'll allow me to catch up a bit.. that said not much reading is planned this weekend :/

Jud (Krisztof) wrote: "I'm now up to 5 of our author's books. That's a quarter of the challenge I set myself so I've gone back to TP for now to keep that challenge going."

Great Jud,well done :)

message 122: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments No, don't worry Karl, no pressure with me, enough of that at work xx

message 123: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Took me forever for each of the song of ice and fire books (forever equating to about a week).

message 124: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Lol that would be two months in my book then !

message 125: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I can't remember exactly how long it took but it did feel like ages so possibly longer than a week, but yes I tend to skim read I think now so I read pretty quick.

message 126: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Karl wrote: "I have to keep track of all the characters."

Make it 4 months for me then !

message 127: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Ill get to it one day.... Maybe il watch it first, might help with remembering the characters...

message 128: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Karl wrote: "You'll love it. HBO have done a fantastic job with the series, some great casting, good cinematography and they haven't shied away from the violence when putting it on the screen."

Nevermind that, Sean Bean is all I'm after lol !

message 129: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Or nudity

Haven't shied from the violence or the nudity/sex!

message 133: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Oh right, no I don't mind really. I love violence, and well as for nudity erm....

message 134: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments And they haven't shied away from characters having long wandering, pointless conversations rather than indulging in proper characterisation.

Peter Dinklage is worth the time watching all on his own, however.

message 135: by Lorraine (last edited Jan 24, 2012 10:33AM) (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Okay, trying to sort myself out... first part - the authors I read last year. I want to read at least another one of their novels this year.

Mel Comley
Chris Petersen
Simon Stone (if another novel comes out this year)
Shaun Jeffrey (reading in progress)
Vernon Baker (if The Arimathean comes out before the end of the year)
Paul Fenton
Michael Wallace
Nick Spalding
Steve Robinson (wouldn't miss out on JT #2 novel for anything in the world)

Now second part - on top of those, I want to read at least one book of each of the authors below:
Carl Ashmore
Jerold Last
Darren Humphries
Lexi Revellian
Simon Royle
Stuart Ayris
Seb Kirby
Scott Nicholson
Jim Bronyaur
Mark Faulkner
David Wailing
Glen Krisch

?Harry Nicholson
?Cornelius Harker

I think that leaves a few spaces... what I might do is go through the suggestions and random.org them and see which ones are picked for me to include them :) So any suggestions are more than welcome !

message 136: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How can you have forgotten Mark Faulkner, Harry Nicholson and OF COURSE Cornelius Harker?

message 137: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Yes I have Ignite !
Just realised that, was going to add Mark Faulkner and David Wailing (obviously). I'll have to check Harry and I'm a bit worried about Cornelius as he seems to be a bit of an expert with words and I might not be able to understand !

Revising the list above right away !

message 138: by David (new)

David Wailing | 834 comments I am feeling the love, Lorraine! :-)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments David wrote: "I am feeling the love, Lorraine! :-)"

GOOD !

message 140: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Cornelius is an expert in using words - sometimes he puts the simplest ones together in a way you've never seen before and you wonder why no-one's ever done that!
He has a wonderful vocabulary, that's true, but your kindle has a dictionary!

message 141: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Ok, will try and attempt it Ignite... got to stay on track for the challenge though, so I might read him if I've finished and there's still time at the end of the year !

message 142: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments I think Stuart Ayris is a pretty good choice Lorraine!

message 143: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Thanks Stuart ! I'm sure he is ;) x

message 144: by Stuart (new)

message 147: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I can't decide how to organise my challenge, thinking of just posting each month which 'our authors' books I've read and keeping a running total.

message 148: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Ayris (stuayris) | 2614 comments Sounds like a plan!
