What we're listening to

I know! He's got such good instincts. The way he handled the end of Monet was really clever. So easy to have gone overboard, but he didn't.

Yes, mostly the songs are from Jason's POV, but the Night We Met is another one where I could feel Sam's weariness and a wishing for not knowing as much as he now does.

That sometimes happens to me too when I'm fancasting character images when I read. One pairing in particular is really strong in my head right now, so I'm seeing them in almost every story, and they're such versatile actors that I can see them with a lot of different personalities and relationship dynamics. But reading the anthology helped! I had a lot of different images running through my head for almost every story.
Speaking of narrators, did any of you listen to Seance on a Summer's Night? I'm curious about what you thought of Matt Haynes.
I’ve not heard of him before, but he’s good. I find myself unable to turn the book off, even when I need to go do something else. Lol.

Oh, I looove his voice. Had such a crush on him when he was on The Equalizer with Edward Woodward (rather a long time ago...).
He’s a little rougher than I imagined Dave, but it works. Also, he does really well with Billy’s voice in the first book, and with Billy’s mother’s voice. Those two I think would be hard since Mom is always drunk off her butt, and Billy has a fetal alcohol spectrum disorder. Tough voices to do, but he does them well!

I didn't find Hansen's Fadeout on Audible. Where did you purchase it, Jordan? I must have missed this information.

Johanna, it is on Audible, maybe U.S. only?
Series (available so far):
It's up next on my "to hear" list. :)

Thank you for your response, Karen.
I have Audible.com account, but when I click your links, no Joseph Hansen books show. So, it must be area/country restrictions. Which is unfortunate for me. :-(

Oh no! I’m so sorry you’re not finding them, Johanna! They’re sooooo good! At least book one is.
He voices Madge really well!

I thought he did well. I really liked his Artemus voice. He captured Artie's disgust and sarcasm well.

Darn! Maybe they'll be added later. Or next time you're in the U.S. maybe they can be purchased/downloaded to your phone or reader?

Oh, I didn't come to think of that. I don't have any idea if it would be possible just because my phone or iPad are concretely in U.S. ground. I doubt it, but I definitely need to check it out next time!

Just listening to it now, I think Matt Haynes is a great find. Couldn't agree more - lovely voice and excellent range. I hope you get the chance to use him again.

Hozier - Someone New"
Nice. Someone has to be 76000001. :)

Here's a few catchy tunes by Young the Giant:
Something to Believe In
Superposition
Heat of the Summer

I've been having ear worms from the past! Here're a couple of my Finnish favorites from the turn of the century. Both songs are by The Crash whose singer's, Teemu Brunila's, voice I find endlessly fascinating. And for a 20-year-old video I think Sugared is still pretty brilliant and even classy (if you watch all the way to the end).

Loved the singer, both songs, and especially loved the Sugared video from this new-to-me group.

I'm so glad you like them! :-) The Crash ceased to exist a long time ago, but along other music projects their singer Teemu Brunila has been part of another group called Studio Killers. They're described as electropop virtual band made up of the fictional characters: vocalist and designer Cherry, keyboardist Goldie Foxx, DJ Dyna Mink, and manager Bipolar Bear. Studio Killers have never revealed their real names, but it's known that the band is British-Danish-Finnish—and when one listens to their music it's pretty obvious that Teemu Brunila is their vocalist, Cherry. He has such unique, distinct voice! I'll link here a couple of their songs in case you want to check them out. It's not the kind of music I usually listen to, but their songs are catchy for sure and I love their animation videos.

I was listening to the other songs you posted (nice!) and fell down the Studio Killers hole. Fun stuff. I do like his voice.
I’ve been thinking of getting a Tibetan singing bowl after seeing, and hearing, one at a conference last month. They sound so beautiful! And I imagine meditating to them would be easier than without. Meditation, being something else I think I should get into.
But, in researching singing bowls today, trying to find just the right one, I stumbled upon tank drums! OMG, so beautiful! In looks and sound!
This short video nearly had me in tears:
And now I really want one, but they’re pricy. The one I want, without looking further than what the guy in the video sells, are not cheap, and ship from Russia. Lol. This might have to be a Christmas present to myself. :-)

Wow! That's gorgeous! I've never seen/heard anything like that. Thanks for posting the link!
Right?! I’ve been enjoying all of his how-to videos. And I looked up other tank drums, sometimes called steel tongue drums, and his are by far the nicest!

For many of the songs he would tell us what the sounds were, such as the bass rhythm is a Cold-War-era naval recording of an ocean fish expelling water at speed and a parrotfish crunching coral and a pig in England, and the high notes are a cuckoo and a raven and a piece of slate shattering and the static on a TV in Bulgaria, and so on and so on. It was fascinating and I loved it! He was so nice and so interesting and he put on a truly excellent show.
Here's some music by Cosmo Sheldrake.
Come Along
The Moss
Pelicans We (live)
Rich--Live at the Pig Sty (he is actually in a barn and this features very cute pigs)
And a sexy remix...
Wriggle (Mr. Jukes Edit)
Fadeout, Joseph Hansen’s first Dave Brandstetter Book in audio. Beautiful writing beautifully read. It does pull me into a melancholy place through. I think that’s in part due I’ve become a bit older along with every reread. The writing never gets old though. :)
Oh yeah... I haven’t yet listened to the second book, but I LOVED Fadeout in audio! And yes, the story doesn’t age, which is amazing.

And this, which was seen only 1,5 million times ;-):

I still haven't heard it! Granted, it's almost 30 hours, so that's quite a listening commitment. I hope it's good! With Kale and Joel, I don't know how it could be anything else.

It happens to me when I listened to a really good narrator and then switch to a diffrent story to read and in my mind I hear the narrator also for the voices of the new story. :-D
And he is defenitely one who's voice sticks in the ear for some time.
I was just listening to the bit in The Mermaid Murders when the meet Dr. Jeremy Keyser. And he narrates him so soft spoken and even a bit timmid and knowing what happens later, it's just so creepy. So. Good.
