For more reading on this topic, check out this book Keep On Pushing: Black Power Music from Blues to Hip-hop. I've not read it, but discovered it earlier this week and it looks interesting!

David Furlong’s narration of Dal Maclean’s Bitter Legacy. Fabulously good reading of a favorite novel. Highly recommended.
I bought this last November, but it took Steve Leonard’s FB recommendation to finally listen. Started two days ago and finished in the early hours of this morning. :)

Alison | 4756 comments Here's a fantastic new song by The Chicks (formerly known as The Dixie Chicks--how cool is it that they changed their name?!). It is a powerful piece about protesting and very moving and I had a tear in my eye by the end. Hats off to a band who has never been afraid to stand up for what's right.

Audiobooks are the best right now and I just started The Magpie Lord last night. I read the ebook ages ago, bought the ebook some time back, and now I'm going in for a second read by listening to it. It's just as good the second time around and the narrator is really good! And I can't seem to put it down. lol.

You inspired me, Jordan. I've had the audiobooks for some time, just back-burnered. I listened to The Magpie Lord, and A Case of Possession this week, and started Flight of Magpies. Yes, the narrator is really good.

Here what Jordan Castillo Price has to say:

If you love the books but haven’t heard the audio yet, I’m begging you to . Nick Hudson absolutely embodies Dixon Penn in all his ambitious, cheerful, sightly dense glory. And his Yuri is deliciously grumpy.

Alison | 4756 comments Here's Ani DiFranco's latest. A nice funky tune for your day. It has her trademark political bite combined with her trademark upbeat-ness, and also some great lines. The video is great and she does shave her head on camera! She inspired me to shave my head back twenty years ago. It looked terrible. She, however, still looks awesome.

We can do this if we try, if we do it like it's do or die.

Alison | 4756 comments I was listening to this song today and thought I'd share because it's so amazingly cheerful and it always gives me a lift. It's the Yuri!!! on Ice opening credits song and it makes me want to zoom around the house and pretend I'm ice skating. Also makes me want to watch Yuri!!! on Ice again. The video is the actual music video for the song itself, which is quite pretty.

History Maker by Dean Fujioka

In case anyone is wondering, like I was, there is a second season of Yuri!!! and also a movie in progress, currently delayed. :)

One of my favorite songs is Fight Song by Rachel Platten. I use it at night as my alarm clock to help me try to get to bed at a decent hour, so it's one of those, I'm still fighting to keep good habits. When I'm not in the middle of something I can't put down, it doesn't help. But generally, it's okay.

New Mexico Gay Men's Chorus "Home for the Holidays" virtual concert on YouTube. Happy to support them. A mix of beauty and sentimentality as to be expected from holiday concerts, and some very moving moments. The duet of Sarah McLachlan's "Wintersong" made me cry (at 21:04).

It's turning out to be so great for both of us. She gets out of the house and is earning a salary, and I love having her energetic, optimistic little personality. Plus she's SO smart. She catches on so fast and she's so tech savvy. I keep trying to explain stuff to her, and she ends up correcting me and showing me how it's actually done. :-D
