Numbers 12 and 10 may be difficult to do with library books, but feel free to tweak them so that they work for you :) for the rest you definitely don't have to own them!

Barbara ★ Sounds great. I'm in though I'm dreading #3 re-reads! I never re-read anything unless it's by mistake. :)

ETA: Turns out I didn't read the Amelia Peabody series in sequence and had to re-read three entries in order to follow the plot at the end of the series. So it worked out fine. Unfortunately I'm not going to finish the challenge because I just can't make myself read the other necessary books. Shouldn't have signed up for this one after all. :(

Do these have to be books we own?"

Numbers 12 and 10 may be difficult to do with library books, but feel free to tweak them so that they work for you :) for the rest you definitely don't have to own them!"

Oh I can make #10 work with library books, and if I join the challenge, I'll figure out a way to make #12 work too :)

Like Barbara, though, #3 -- re-reads -- worries me. I do NOT reread books, unless they're for my book discussion group. We've got our schedule set for the next six months, and there's not a reread in the bunch. #4 is also troublesome for me, as I either finish a book or write it off and forget about it.

As tempting as it is to join, I'll have to give this some serious thought :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Teresa's Twelve Towers of Books
Level: Eyes on Target (up to 3 years)
Start: October 1, 2013
End: October 1, 2018

12 books that you've acquired most recently
*Tweaking: I rarely purchase books and since the 'most recent' books from the library would mean 'all' of the books from the library, thus pigeonholing my books to one category only, I'm just going to make this 12 Library Books.

11 books that you never find time to get around to or that have been on your shelves the longest (pre-choose these)
*These will strictly be books on my shelves at home because I'm sorely behind on reading any of those. Need to sort through the books for a list later!

10 books you randomly select from your shelves (such as by using random.org -- as you go or pre-choose)
*Going to use a random.org rolls and a mix of my library-related 'to-read' shelves and a designated list of books from my home shelves.

9 sequels, series continuations, or spin-offs

8 novellas or short-stories - they can be part of anthologies, you don't have to read the whole book in this case.
*Maybe I'll finally read that Sirens, Maidens, whatever anthology.

7 books that everyone seems to have read but you.
*Definitely no 50 shades or Twilight. As if I need a reminder.

6 anticipated releases (release dates after your start date).
*I anticipate the following authors each year:
~Sue Grafton
~J. D. Robb
~Kathy Reichs
~Tess Gerritsen
~Michael Connelly

5 books that were recommended to you via ŷ.
*Going to also use Amazon recommendations for this one.

4 books that you started but never finished
*Glad I've got my "paused" shelf here for the memory bank.

3 books that you've already read before
*Chance to revisit something that I mean to read but keep forgetting about.

2 books with covers that you don't think fit the storyline or that you don't like the covers of but everyone raves about the books

1 book that intimidates you
*Hmmm... what to read, what to read.

Barb Thanks LK, but I'm trying to figure out what I could use for #3 and #4, since I don't re-read books and I either finish a book or I abandon it entirely. I could substitute series that I've started but not finished for #4, but #3 stumps me.

Maybe you could read a new(to you) book from an author you've read before?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Maybe listen to one of your favs on audio? Or one you tried, but couldn't finish, but try it on audio?

message 30: by Barb (new)

Barb Those are both good ideas, thanks Amanda and LK! I'll look through my book list tomorrow (in between loads of laundry, ugh!) and see what I can come up with :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Laundry, schmaundry!

I need to do that tomorrow.

message 32: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 757 comments On the contrary, I love doing laundry (the washing machine works and I have the feeling that I do something useful LOL, at the same time I'm reading or doing something pleasurable and at the end of the day I can say that I did some housework, while in fact the washing machine did it :D), I hate vacuuming and dusting though!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Ha, you make a good point, Anima. I do feel productive when I sit on the couch folding laundry while doing something else (usually a TV show marathon on Netflix, combined with reading chapters between loads drying). I have a new dryer and I love it and I think that helps a lot. Our old dryer took hours to dry a load, this one takes 30 minutes so I'm able to keep up with it.

Yeah, I know, but hubby needs clean clothes when he leaves early tomorrow morning, so it needs to be done *sigh*

@Anima, that's a wonderful way to look at it! I don't mind the vacuuming so much (of course, we don't have many carpeted floors LOL), but I really wish someone would invent a machine that would take care of the dusting :)

Barb OK, you've all persuaded me to give this a shot. I've tweaked several of the categories to fit my reading habits a little better, and I'm going to attempt the Need for Speed level (up to 18 months to complete).

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1319 comments For Tower 9, do they all have to be the same series, or can I use it to finish off series that I need to finish?

Also do we have to read the stacks in order?

message 48: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1319 comments Also if I have a book that contains 3 novellas can I count that one book for three places? I tried to find the stories separate and they're not listed that way on goodreads

You can work on the stacks in any order you wish, separately or multiple stacks at the same time.
