Emma Jaye | 3695 comments This is a special celebratory, genre specific group. In joining this group you have agreed TO READ AND REVIEW ANY ALLOCATED BOOK within the set 12 week limit.
Genre: Horror
Intended to, or has the capacity to frighten, scare, disgust, or startle.

Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate preferences. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

Let’s be honest here even within the same genre, we don’t all like the same things but we all want reviews. The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
/topic/show/...

Make sure you have an author profile set up before you join and that your book is available for sale on amazon (not pre-0rder).

Please let me know as you sign up if you have been reviewed by, or have reviewed another author in the group. It is permissible to review an author more than once if a different book is available, but reciprocal reviews within the group are strictly prohibited.

Your group moderator will be
Neil Carstairs

Noorilhuda | 522 comments Emma, hi, just wanted to say that this G-100-anniversary-round idea with different genres is a great one. There's even one of horror! cool!

message 3: by Susanne (new)

Susanne Leist (susanneleist) Hi! Could I join this group with my book, The Dead Game?
Thanks,
Susanne Leist

message 4: by Neil (new)

Neil Carstairs | 662 comments Susanne

If you could post the goodreads links to your author and book page Emma will add you to the list

Emma

As we don't seem to be getting trampled on in the stampede to fill this genre I will pop over to a few of the other groups and tell them about the anniversary round

message 5: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Found them myself, but yep its easier if people post them.

And yes please, advertise this group everywhere you can, lets get the horror round up and running!

Elizabeth Johnson | 86 comments Hi Emma,
Could you add me to this group with my book: Sebastian? Sebastian The Life of Sebastian and Hanna Greene by Elizabeth Johnson
Thanks

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Welcome Elizabeth.

message 11: by Karl (last edited Mar 22, 2016 12:02PM) (new)

Karl Whiting | 11 comments I'm interested! I finally got my author and book pages up and running (where a wordless 1-star review was patiently awaiting me), so it's a little bare:

/author/show...

I'd love to join with my short horror book Heckler's Storm:

/book/show/2...

This is my first time in one of these groups, so I have not reviewed anyone nor has anyone written a review for me.

message 12: by Emma (last edited Mar 22, 2016 12:23PM) (new)

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Welcome Karl, and re that one star, ouch!
The only thing that might ease the pain is that some people use the start rating system on goodreads to rate how much they want to read a book, rather than a rating after they've actually read it.
She seems to prefer cowboy romances, so you were probably not on to a winner with her anyway!

message 13: by Karl (new)

Karl Whiting | 11 comments Thanks Emma, I appreciate the potential context. And yeah, it's pretty much the opposite of a cowboy romance :)

It was the first review of any kind I've gotten and, you know, I'm prepared for some bad ones. I'll take the 1-star in stride!

message 14: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Good for you, all the best authors have joined the 'one-star' club.
I'm quite proud of mine, but I really don't want it to ever get a friend!
I'm sure its very happy being an only child.

message 15: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 2 comments Hi! I am a virtual assistant who works for indie horror author, Darcy Coates, and she wanted to be able to put one of her books up for consideration for the reading group. How might we do that? Thanks for any information you can provide as we just want to make sure we follow the rules correctly.

message 16: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments You could always read the introduction to the group and this thread like everyone else has...

This isn't a reading group, its a review group. An author, or a nominated stand in, we have had a few over the years, reads and reviews four allocated books and they receive four reviews in return all within 12 weeks. Books are provided by the author in digital format.

message 17: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 2 comments I'm sorry. I didn't mean to skip that step. Thank you for that information. I'll let my author know.

message 18: by Noah (last edited Mar 24, 2016 10:37AM) (new)

Noah Nichols (nanmanme) As my novel is quite varied with bouts of gore and horror movie motifs here and there within the narrative, I'd like to nominate No Net to the at-the-moment dwindling proceedings! At least we are halfway there now...

Author profile: /author/show...

Book: /book/show/2...

message 19: by Rafael (new)

Rafael (rafaelnyc) | 115 comments Not to trample anyone in the stampede, but I'd like to join 100E.

Before you confirm me as joined, however, am I correct that the process requires me to

1. submit an already published book
2. randomly be assigned four books written by others within 100E to read and review
3. complete the four reviews within twelve (12) weeks ??

I have not previously reviewed ANY books within the Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ community.

Thanx for any help and insight.

-r-

message 20: by Noah (new)

Noah Nichols (nanmanme) Rafael, you are 100% correct. You got it down pat already.

message 21: by Rafael (new)

Rafael (rafaelnyc) | 115 comments Thank you, Noah. It's an accomplishment for me whenever I get things down pat. ;-)

Rafael (rafaelnyc) | 115 comments Thanx for your time, Emma.

message 26: by Rafael (new)

Rafael (rafaelnyc) | 115 comments Note to Noah. Saw the 'About Me' on your Author Page. Thought you'd appreciate the following.

Some archaeologists were digging around outside of Capua, Italy and came upon a Roman gravesite. A tombstone bore this inscription (in Latin, of course): You are where I was. I am where you will be.

Romans admired conciseness.

message 27: by Noah (new)

Noah Nichols (nanmanme) Thank you for sharing that, Rafael. I love it. So short, so true.

message 28: by Jacob (last edited Apr 14, 2016 04:04AM) (new)

Jacob I would like to enter a newly published omnibus that collects the first four episodes of my Titan's Song horror/fantasy serial. I've been writing like crazy trying to finish the fourth book so I could put this omnibus together, and I was hoping this round would still be open when I finished.

Author Page: /author/show...

Book Page: /book/show/2...

Note: Me and Noah have a past review history and cannot review each other.

Cheers to everyone and looking forward to the beginning of the round. Hopefully it will fill up shortly.

message 29: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Welcome Stanley.

message 30: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Redfern | 19 comments Hi Emma,

Do we start once all the slots are filled? How are the reading titles assigned?

I am asking because I am currently in a reader's void - between books. I feel lost and aimless without a book in hand. Like a drug addict, I'm frantic with NEED to find the next one.

Knowing that we have this project coming up, I don't want to start another book yet.

I prefer to purchase my copies rather than read PDF's, and am ready, willing and able to start pushing that 'buy' button...

Will do more tweeting promos...with all the titles currently on our list... today for those last three places. Let's get rolling! ;-)

message 31: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Yes, once the ten slots are filled, I'll allocate who is reviewed who, based on making sure everyone has non-reciprocal reviews.

Neil Carstairs | 662 comments Hi Emma

I think I'm finally getting time to breathe after a busy spell in work/home life so I'd like to offer up The Chamber for this group.

Book page: /book/show/2...

Author Page: /author/show...

No review clashes so far

message 33: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Welcome aboard Neil, it feels like ages since I've said that on this thread!
If anyone wants to get in on this one, now is the time because it is doubtful we'll be running another 'Horror' group as the take up is so slow.

message 34: by Leo (new)

Leo McBride (leomcbride) | 115 comments If you're struggling to fill, I have an older horror anthology I could put forward - I'm halfway through the sci fi group I'm in so should be able to juggle adding in reviews for the horror group too at a squeak.

The book I would offer up is Tales From The Mists: Thrilling Short Stories of the Strange - it's a short and sweet five-story horror anthology by writers from around the world.

I've got Rafael to review over in the sci fi group, just reading his book The Huntsman as my third one there, but no other clashes.

message 35: by Emma (new)

Emma Jaye | 3695 comments Welcome aboard Leo, you might have to review Rafael again, but this is a different book.

one to find, how exciting!

message 36: by Leo (new)

Leo McBride (leomcbride) | 115 comments Won't mind reviewing Rafael again at all, just started into The Huntsman and it's a cracker so far, a real page-turner!

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their reviewer in a format the reviewer can manage. Everyone must be able to accept PDF. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines.

When you have posted your reviews, please post the three links to your reviews in this thread.

All reviews must be posted to GR, Amazon .com and Amazon.co.uk.

Postings to any other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.

To exchange book files, my advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addies from this open forum). Happy reviewing, everyone :)

Neil Carstairs | 662 comments Hello all. Well it took its time but the Horror Group is up and running. As ever thanks to Emma for her time in setting this group up. Please read the notes on contacting each other through PMs as it is the best method. If you are new to the group have a look at the first post in this thread /topic/show/... for a guide. Any problems please pm me, all the best for now

message 44: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Redfern | 19 comments Yea!

Happy to start reading. Thanks so much for all the work that goes into organizing and launching such an event.

The "how to PM" link above responded with a, "Sorry, we couldn't find that topic" message.

These instructions worked - /topic/show/...

A question about the 'post review dates' for rounds 3 and 4. Are those dates right?

message 45: by Neil (new)

Neil Carstairs | 662 comments Lisa, thanks for posting the link for sending messages, always helps if anyone hasn't done it before.
Just working out on my fingers that Round 3 date looks okay but Round 4 (and the completion date of group) should be 17th July. Emma will edit that. Thanks for pointing it out.

message 46: by Leo (new)

Leo McBride (leomcbride) | 115 comments I've not received my review copy yet for the first round - so I might switch over with my second round book if that's ok. Might very well get both read before the deadline anyway, I'd imagine so, but rather than delay.
