Nanci | 1864 comments Great job on finishing your first book, Robynne! Thanks for remembering to post it to your UNO shelf!

I'll put the date finished on the tracking sheet for you! In the future if you want to mark the date finished on the sheet feel free. If not, no worry, we can do it for you!

message 152: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Correction to above post.
I see you just posted the read date to the tracking sheet! Awesome! You are catching on super quick!

message 153: by Robynne (new)

Robynne Lozier Nanci - my UNO Shelf link seems to have gone bad. I can access the shelf, but the link on this team thread is bad.

This is the correct link.

/review/list...

message 154: by Robynne (new)

Robynne Lozier Ok finished the second book - well it was actually the first book I started but I dropped it to read Zero Hour and then I went right back to it again. Tracking sheet updated. On to book number 3!!!

Chava | 528 comments Hi

The link is fixed! I should of checked this when we needed to fix your profile link in the first post.

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments We are off to a great start! With using some Draw 2 cards and logging the books finished so far, we have 10 cards checked off.

Not bad for only being a few days in ;)

Maddielucy(Patti) | 217 comments Just finished my first book!

Awesome! Another color book down.

It looked like it didn't matter if I used it for the 1 or 2 Blue with the other blue books you are reading. So I used it for the 1 Blue because it's in an earlier hand. But I can easily move it to 2 Blue if need be.

message 160: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Way to go team! We are on fire!
I'm reading/listening to 3 books simultaneously, but I should have one finished and posted by this evening.

message 161: by Amber M. (new)

Amber M. McCarter (mommyultd) | 32 comments Unfortunately, I overlooked that detail about this challenge requiring the books to be started after the challenge initiates, so I'm only just now getting around to reading for this. I'm starting a 3rd in series though (The Toll), if we are still trying to fill 3s?

message 162: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments No worries! And yes, we still need a bunch of threes

Plus, it’s a great book. Not my favorite of the trilogy but a nice ending and a 4 star read for me.

Enjoy 😊

Thanks! Four stars is still pretty solid for any sequel :)

message 164: by Chava (new)

Chava | 528 comments I've finished another one and placed on the tracking sheet

message 165: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Amber, no stress! It's just a few days in. You've got all month. Nice that you were able to read a 4 star right off the bat!
Team you are rocking it with your reading!

I finished my blue book for the 2blue WD4. If you read Olive Kitteridge and enjoyed it then I would recommend the sequel Olive, Again. There's just something about that somewhat grumpy, painfully honest Olive that I find likeable!

message 167: by Robynne (last edited Feb 03, 2020 09:58PM) (new)

Robynne Lozier And another book finished - a cozy mystery this time - these are usually fast and easy books to read. I read this to help with hand 1

I actually used this for a 7 Card as V's can be harder to find than books for Skips. But both of these books have found important happy homes :)

message 170: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments We are doing awesome! 22 cards checked off so far! Part of that is from using almost all of our Draw 2 cards.

We've used 4 of those so far, so that means 4 books read and 12 cards knocked out. But still, we are in great shape for only being 4 days in.

message 171: by Robynne (last edited Feb 04, 2020 12:49PM) (new)

Robynne Lozier OK cozy mystery number 3 now done!!

Murder in the Manor (An Ella Rose Cozy Mystery—Book 1) by Fiona Grace

Murder in the Manor
by Fiona Grace

1 - 1st in series
H - Henry - character
T - Tom - character
P - England
N - Naomi - Character
F - Fiona - Author

Tracking sheet has been updated.

Not all cozy mysteries are to my liking. I had to DNF one cozy mystery book - Murder in the South of France. France is my favourite country which is why I purchased that book, but the writing was so slow and boring and there was no action!!

message 172: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Nice, Robynne!
I used it in hand 6 on the spreadsheet for a 3 card for the character Henry.

message 173: by Chava (new)

Chava | 528 comments I am a bit behind. I'm recovering from a major migraine that has left me struggling to speak. I'll be okay, but it's put a full stop to my reading. I hope to have another book done next week though

Next week I'll be going to a family wedding for 2 weeks so I'll likely not be able to read as much then either. I will try to load up audiobooks to listen to on the long flight from Australia to the UK.

message 174: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments No one feel pressure to read like bandits 🙂 but I’m totally loving the enthusiasm. It’s a lot more fun when the whole team is all in. We are doing awesome and in my opinion ahead of schedule.

And I’m not really pushing myself too hard until I see what’s what with the mid-month mini challenge. I’m down for 30 books a month but I may be able to take it easy or read some longer books, which is great and a bit of a luxury for me.

I’m paranoid we are going to finish mid month at this rate. LOL. Though now that the Draw 2s are gone I won’t be filling cards out as quickly. Just one left and it’s already earmarked to be used with a color card.

Go Team!

message 175: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments And Chava, just rest and take it easy. Migraines are no joke.

I hope you continue to get better so you can enjoy your trip

message 176: by Robynne (last edited Feb 04, 2020 05:01PM) (new)

Robynne Lozier I have just splurged on a whole heap of Cozy Mystery books. These were going really cheap, less than $1 each and most of these are the 1st or 2nd in the series. Having discovered how diverse they are in subjects and topics, despite how formulaic some of them are, I'm going to give them a try. Besides I want light and easy for now...

message 177: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Cozy mysteries are great for challenges and you can learn some very random but interesting things.

It’s a whole genre of books I never really knew existed until I started doing challenges. Hopefully most are at least 3 stars, there are some though that are really bad. To be fair, you can probably say that about most genres.

Enjoy those finds and Happy Reading!!

Cozies are great for challenges, they're such quick reads. I discovered them a few years ago and now love the genre.

message 180: by Chava (new)

Chava | 528 comments what cozies do you recommend? I haven't been able to find any good ones, except maybe Phrynne Fisher mysteries

message 181: by Robynne (last edited Feb 04, 2020 07:47PM) (new)

Robynne Lozier It's kind of hard to answer that question without knowing what other topics you are interested in. I gravitate to the Library, Genealogist, Historian, Crafting, and Reporter settings of Cozy mysteries.

I have also found 2 more series set in the 1920s - like Phrynne Fisher. Have just purchased one book from each of these 2 series - like several hours ago. Keep in mind, I have not read them yet.

Starfire Cozy Mysteries by London Lovett
Jane Carter Historical Cozy by Alice Simpson (aka Celia Kinsey)

There are many cafe and cooking series and so on, but I dont think I have seen too many teachers and lawyers as main characters in these books - or I just havent looked hard enough.
These are just my thoughts - but keep in mind that I am NEW to Cozy Mysteries so I dont know very much at all.

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Hello Sarah!

When you get a chance, could you put Truly Devious on your UNO Shelf? I found it on your Read shelf, so I still went ahead and logged it.

Did you like the book? It's been sitting on my to-read list for a bit but I hear mixed things about it.

message 183: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Robynne,

when you get a chance could you make sure that your books:
Murder in the Manor
Paging the Dead
The Secrets of Filming Swallows and Amazons

are all on your UNO shelf with Read dates in February?

Thank you!

I really like the Auction series that starts with: Death & the Redheaded Woman

If you like some Paranormal in your reading life, Kristen Painter is always good: The Vampire's Mail Order Bride

Personally I gravitate towards book-centric cozies with a few random other subjects thrown in. Here are some series I've really enjoyed.

The Haunted Library Mysteries
Mystery Bookshop Series
Bibliophile Mystery Series
Blue Ridge Library Mysteries
Library Lover's Mystery Series
Shamelessly Adorable Teddy Bear Mystery Series
House-Flipper Mystery Series

message 186: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Thanks for all the suggestions on the cozy mysteries. I've never read any. Maybe I'll give one a try next month. Always good to at least try another genre!

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Something I noticed when I went into the sheet to add a book.

My book Joy to the Duke got placed on a 7 card, but there is nothing in the book that works for a 7. It looks like the character name used got pulled from someone else's book.

Perfect! Thank you, books now logged on the official sheet.

message 192: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments FYI - just so no one gets confused. I hid a bunch of rows for the books we've already logged on the spreadsheet (from the first 4 days).

The info is all still there if Nanci or I need to shift books around later.

I just wanted to make it easier on the tracking tab so people didn't have to keep scrolling past books already entered. But I didn't want people to get concerned data had been deleted or something.

message 193: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Robynne, your to be read book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and Judith your book, Before We Were Yours are now marked for Reverse on the tracking sheet with the dates I read them.

message 194: by Robynne (new)

Robynne Lozier I shall read henrietta lacks now, thanks.

message 195: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Completed The Likely Resolutions of Oliver Clock for our WD4 1Yellow card in Hand 10.

Listening to The Forgotten Ones and also reading The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank, so those will be the next two I will post.

message 196: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Robynne wrote: "I shall read henrietta lacks now, thanks."

Ok. No rush, Robynne. If you'd rather read one of your color books first or something else that's fine. I haven't read Henrietta since 2013, but I think I recall it was a slower read. I'm not a real fast reader anyhow, so it might be quick for you!

message 197: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments It’s a denser read because of the science. But it’s an excellent read. I remember reading it during the Baltimore riots about 5/7 years ago.

So it was a rather timely read too for me.

message 198: by Chava (new)

Chava | 528 comments okay, finished another audiobook :) Added to the spreadsheet!

message 199: by Nanci (new)

message 200: by Robynne (last edited Feb 06, 2020 05:41AM) (new)

Robynne Lozier OK Like Judith said Lacks has a lot of science in it - but it is still good!!

So I took a break from reading Lacks and devoured a re-read - Treasure of Khan - a Dirk Pitt Novel by Clive Cussler. I would really like this one to go in the Skip Slot in Hand One since the main character is named Pitt.

Henrietta Lacks is a great book, but one does need breaks from it. I will continue it today. Thanks.
