Robynne Lozier I will be happy to read 2 clive cussler books - for characters - Kurt and Pitt - for 2 of the Skips we have left - these are rereads and are easy for me to do. Is that OK?

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Finished Chloe Brown.

Judith wrote: "Thank Melanie! This is on my tbr and I was going to ask you about it after you finished."

It ended up being a 5 star read for me, I loved everything about it. So I highly recommend picking it up. Plus, now it could be used as a reverse if you get to it during the challenge.

message 253: by Robynne (last edited Feb 11, 2020 06:39PM) (new)

Robynne Lozier OK I just finished another cozy mystery - this one was quite the let down actually. I could only give it 3 stars.

Peril at the Pink Lotus (Jane Carter Historical Cozy Mysteries 1) by Alice Simpson

Peril at the Pink Lotus by Alice Simpson
1 - 1st in series
A - Author - Simpson
C - Florence
C - Helene
C - Pauline

If you'd like to that's fine!

I went ahead and grabbed it shortly after I read your post. I'll hold it for March since we only have 1 Reverse left for Feb. And a couple options for it will be completed soon.

Yay for a book to look forward to for March!

Nanci | 1864 comments I picked up my copy of Chloe Brown at the library today!

Sarah⭐ The Ultimate Book Hoarder (sarabellatrixx) | 69 comments Hi, I think someone deleted the book that I read (Truly Devious) in the spreadsheet because I can't find it anywhere.

message 259: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Nope, I logged it!

I just hid a bunch of rows so people didn’t have to scroll past so many of the read books

I only just recently started this series, but was very impressed with the first book. Looking forward to continuing with it.

Thanks! Things have been pretty hectic (hence lack of reading time) but I pretty much finished the entirety of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie in one sitting! Hope things are well with you.

She's always a page turner and has such fun, well-developed characters.

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Well, I just logged our last 7 card for Feb. All of the color/WD4 cards are checked off as well.

And we have 68 of the 98 cards already filled out, we are doing great!

Again, be on the look out for the mini-challenge for Feb. I'm guessing those details will be out in the next day or so.

Nanci | 1864 comments Melanie wrote: "Nanci wrote: "I picked up my copy of Chloe Brown at the library today!"

She sounds like a fun author! I'm going to wait to start it until tomorrow in hopes they'll post the mini challenge and it will fit one of the tasks.

Nanci | 1864 comments Hey team!
We are blowing this first round out of the water! Way to go!

I've told Judith, but just to let you all know too, I may not be on the thread much Feb 15-26. We are going on an 11 day cruise to the Panama Canal! So excited! It's a long time on a cruise ship, but we're going with another couple who are also very active, so our excursions off the ship should help keep me sane. I will be reading, but not sure about the wifi on the ship, so I may not be able to access the SS very well.
Carry on and keep up the great reading!

message 271: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments And I just checked off the last Reverse card!

message 272: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments The mini challenge is out!

I’ll post the details later tonight and will get a tracking sheet for that up.

Books can be started at any time during the challenge but cannot be finished before feb 14th to count for the mini challenge.

And for the newbies to the game, the same book can be used for the main challenge and mini challenge.

message 273: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Oh, this looks like a fun mini.

I do have one question. We have less cards remaining than there are spots in the mini challenge. Can we read additional books for only the mini? Or are we stuck not completing the mini because we're "ahead" on our cards?

message 274: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Nope, we can just keep on reading and some books just won’t be used for the UNO hands

message 275: by Judith (last edited Feb 13, 2020 05:14PM) (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments My top posts will be updated with this information and the countdowns for easy reference. A sign-up/tracking sheet for the mini is up with our book log.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Judith wrote: "Nope, we can just keep on reading and some books just won’t be used for the UNO hands"

Ok, great!

I started looking at the books I have left on the spreadsheet to check how they would fit the mini. Do you want us to just pick a task and claim it?

After the 4 I have on the sheet, I will have more flexibility to pick up whatever to cover tasks. Just need to finish those 3 ARCs and a 5th in series I've been anticipating before my month will open up. This weekend is a 3 days weekend for me with the holiday, so I'll have plenty of time to read.

message 277: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Yep, start claiming tasks. I picked some already for books I've started already and one I'm about to.

After those I'm going to have more flexibility as well.

One thing I want to emphasize is we have A LOT of leeway to be creative to cover the word. So please feel free to come at the word sideways in terms of 'fitting the task'.

message 278: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments I signed up for 3 of the spots on the mini challenge. My one book, Illumination Night, works for a ton of words, so if we need to use it for a different word, let me know. Sorry it does not work for the hard food words. Those are going to be our tough ones!

message 279: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Yes and no for the tough words. We don’t have to actually find them in text or on the cover, we could find the color of the fruit. Or use some other creative way to ‘find them.

We are so used to have strict rules for this stuff that having a lot of freedom and creativity is almost harder. Lol

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Chava, whenever you get a chance can you add it to your shelf and mark it as read?

I hope you are having a good time with family for the wedding!

Oh my. I didn't know it could be that flexy, bendy! That's great!

I decided to read Get a Life, Chloe Brown and hope to finish it today before my flight. Hysterical!

message 284: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments Yep, I used The Goldfinch for starfruit because the yellow of the bird's feathers is pretty close to the color of the actual fruit color.

The mods decided after some things getting a wee bit out of control with rule adherence in other challenges (umm tower teams over in NBRC) that this was just going to be fun and relaxed and let people be really creative.

message 285: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments I've been thinking some about the recipe bonus piece of the mini challenge.

Since we are Team Astronaut Pie, I was thinking about finding a pie recipe and then modifying it by swiping in astronaut related things. Like astronaut ice cream, Tang, etc and then some celestial type ingredients.

It's not like we actually have to bake and eat the thing. LOL

Does this sound like a good plan? Open to any and all ideas.

message 286: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 1864 comments Chloe Brown also works for a lot of words in text, so again let me know if we need to switch!
I'm done claiming for the mini for now. I'm just not sure I'll be reading as much as normal while traveling.

Great idea, Judith! Thanks for doing the recipe for us! Thinking a little outside the box, it could be a moon pie cookie! Those are delicious in real life and could have astronaut ice cream on top!

Do you think my book Illumination Night by Alice Hoffman cover color could be considered "cornflower" blue to work for cornflour?

message 290: by Robynne (new)

Robynne Lozier Do we need to create a seperate shelf for this mini challenge or do we just use our main UNO shelf?

Also how do the numbers work?
Just the number of pages?
EXACT number of pages?

I was thinking that the food related cozy mysteries might be helpful for this - they have tons of food, some have recipes and they are relatively short.

Sorry I took a day off from reading because I was getting a little burned out...

I'm glad you took a bit of a break! I was a bit worried about you burning yourself out and we still have two months+ to go.

Nope, you can keep the same shelf for everything for the entire challenge (all months, all mini challenges). The special shelf is more to make it easier for Nanci and I to check that your books are marked as read with appropriate dates.

The 3 digit numbers I think are best handled with page numbers. Yes, the exact number. I have found a book that is 120 pages and the book I plan on listening to next happens to be exactly 300 pages.

So that just leaves 270 for the 3 digit numbers.

the other numbers can be publication date related. Let's say you are looking for the number 6. Some options:
-Published on June 17, 2018 (June = 6)
-Published on Jan 6, 2020 (day = 6)
-Published on Mar 7, 2006 (last to digits of year = 06)

Does that add some clarification? Keep the questions coming if you have them

message 292: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments for numbers, series number also works.

So if something is 1, 2, 3, 6, 12, or 24 in series they can also work for those numbers.

message 293: by Robynne (new)

Robynne Lozier Also I have finished The Phaorah's Secret by Clive Cussler and Graham Brown - a Novel from the NUMA Files - which I want to be used for the last skip in Hand 13 but it's not listed on ŷ. Can someone please add it because I have no idea how to do that? I would have expected goodreads to be up to date? Here are the details.
G.P.Putnam & Sons - 2015 - copyright by Sandecker RLLP - ISBN - 978-0-698-19126-6

Skip - Title - Pharoahs Secret, Characters- Kurt, Sandecker, Trout

If you need anything else, Please let me know.

I can still read, but it may be slower.

My family transportation issue just got worse - phone call a few minutes ago to say vehicle cannot be repaired and we now need to acquire a new one which will take weeks!! Buying food online for delivery is EXPENSIVE!!!

Thanks

Robynne

I found this on GR: The Pharaoh's Secret

That seems to be the book you are talking about. If not, I can put in a request to the GR librarians and get the books added.

message 295: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Here is the book Robynne. Is this the right one?
/book/show/2...

It was already on GR, I found it by the ISBN number. I've been having a lot of issues with GR search lately and searching by ISBN has been the only way I can find stuff sometimes.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Woops, cross-posted with you Judith.

But as an FYI, I am a librarian so if anyone on the team runs into a book not being on here in the future, I can add it.

message 297: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1874 comments As for how much you read, you have already gone above and beyond what we expected. Read as much or as little as you chose too. All of your contributions are much welcomed, but don't feel pressure to do more than is practical.

I am sorry about all of your troubles and wish we could do something to help aside to provide verbal support and an outlet for you.
