Nicolle, what did you think of The Secret Life of Bees? My sister recommended it to me a few years ago and I personally thought it was amazing! Lilly is a wonderful character. Did you watch the movie they came out with a few years ago?

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't know that The Secret Life of Bees was a book...the movie was fantastic....now I must read the book!!! Man another on my TBR list...sigh!!!!

message 11: by Breanna (new)

Breanna McDowell (bre_mcdowell89) | 10 comments Teri, you'll love the book too! I don't know about you, but I always think the books are soooo much better than the movies!

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

But of course they are....I don't like watching a movie after I read a book because I am way too disappointed in the movie...my husband HATES when I read a book first because I pick the movie apart and then he doesn't enjoy it either!! lol

I loved the book! I thought the characters werw adorable and the whole book really captured the effect of racial discrimination in a realistic and believable way. Many upsetting parts though. I have also watched the film and thought the choice of actors was brilliant, though of course not as good as the book.

message 15: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Both of them are favourites of mine. I advise you to keep going on The Book Thief even if you don't really like the first half of the book. I wasn't so keen and nearly gave up but carried on for some reason and I am so glad I did as it is such an incredible novel!
The Hunger Games is addictive, so you should make sure you have the sequels at hand. I still haven't read MockingJay and am desperate to read it!

message 16: by Angie (new)

Well I have started so many books and not finished them so my next five reads are going to be the books that I started that I never finished!!!

Don Quixote
Jane Eyre
Juliet
One Day
The Hobbit

Not Necessarily in this order, but these for sure!!
I hope to be done these before the end of the year, but no promises!!!! I just don't like to not finish what I start

message 29: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Have read all those except Juliet and Don Q, and I can say they are all pretty fantastic books!

message 30: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) Villette is on the back burner right now. I feel better now that I'm past the half way mark. I'll get back to it when I've finished Jar City.
I've started Our Mutual Friend & Bleak House with another group that is doing a comparative read of these 2 Dickens books. I will be taking my time with these.
Let's see ... you want 5 ... The Manchurian Candidate is one of my remaining TBR challenge books for the year so I'm going to try to finish it after Jar City.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Nicolle u need to read Don Q....It is supper funny and entertaining

message 32: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Is it?! What exactly is it about? It sounds like it will be a huge book full of scary big words!

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

It's kind of tricky to read, but I have also posted a link to Cliffs notes that is for Don.....It is about a guy who loves to read and takes it to the next level...that is all I am going to say!!!

message 38: by Martha (last edited Dec 05, 2011 10:00AM) (new)

Martha (marthas48) I was just looking at the plans for the rest of this month. I've changed a bit.

I'm still reading 2 Dickens, but it's Bleak House and listening to A Christmas Carol. I'm reading a few for the A-Z challenge that I think I can finish (won't finish the other one, so will work on those books in 2012).
The Other a reread ... hope I enjoy it as much as I did before
Quench The Lamp This one's sweet.
The Xibalba Murders not really liking this one much. Probably won't read any more by this author.
