Marc, I've always wondered what a man would think of Pride and Prejudice, since it is so female-centric, so I would love to hear what you think of it. I love Penguin Classics, too, have several of those little orange books on my (real life) shelves! Are you new to classics in general? Classics and literary fiction are my favourite genres, so if you would like to chat about them, feel free to send me a PM or friend request.

Idan, The Hobbit is a great place to start, I am a huge Tolkien fan, especially of The Lord of the Rings, have you read that yet?

Beth Hello. I am so glad I found this group. In 2014 I hope to catch up on many classics.

Me too! I enjoyed reading both
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I think J.R.R. Tolkien was very detailed and original in imagining the entire Middle-Earth universe and even until now very few authors can match him in world building. :)

message 1321: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi. I'm Darlene from Nevada, USA. I plan to read at least one classic per month as I read in alphabetical order the books in my personal library over the next 24 months. I'm already 2 months in and started on the Cs for March. Looking forward to reading your discussions of books I've previously read and enjoying the dialogue.

message 1322: by Neda (new)

Neda hi... I enjoy English language and particularly its literature... drowning in the world's literature with data variety of different cultures is really wonderful... :-)

message 1323: by Suzan (new)

Suzan (Suus Leest) (suzann1219) Hay everyone!
My name is Suzan, I'm 22 years old and I'm from the Netherlands. I am a student of English Language and Culture, hopefully graduating this year (currently writing my dissertation which is killing me). Also hoping to be doing a Master's degree in English next. Needless to say, I love reading, and recently I've really been into classics, but honestly, I'd read anything (except for most YA fantasy - I've recently discovered that I've outgrown that genre).

message 1324: by Polyne (new)

Polyne Кaramagi (polinushka) | 0 comments Hi everyone. My name is Polina; I am a mother of four and extremely busy, but I make sure I find time to read. I was born in Russia but grew up in Tanzania: English is my 3rd language. I love to read; yes, I love to escape because reality annoys me! I recently started reading English books, and I just fell in love with books: if I am not reading, I am listening to one- books are drugs! Since I started reading, I have improved in my English writing and vocabulary a great deal.

message 1325: by Harsha (new)

Harsha Varma (masternamer) Hi everyone!! My name is Harsha, I'm 21 and am from India. I love reading and find reading the classics extremely gratifying and memorable. Currently, I'm fascinated with Russian literature and am having the greatest time reading Dostoyevsky.

Would love to discover more books through this group.. Happy reading!!

Hey all, name's Rabindranauth. Nice to meet you all! I'm an eclectic reader, I rarely stick to one genre. I bounce all over the place, everything from fantasy to thrillers to classics. Looking forward to discussing books!

Lisa's book adventures (lisasbookadventures) | 4 comments hey everyone !
I'm Lisa and I'm 22 and from Belgium.
Currently I've read around a dozen classics and have loads more I want to get through. Seems like a lot of people have chosen Jane Eyre to be their favourite classic, and I must say I'm one of them, but it has to share it's place with Agnes Grey !

message 1331: by andreavictoria (new)

Charlotte (caelestial) | 27 comments Hello everyone. My name is Charlie and I'm a 17 year old soon-to-be senior in high school. A lot of the time I end up not reading books I've marked "currently reading" and instead drift to another book. I'm not sure why. Maybe commitment scares me? My favorite book is The Great Gatsby and we can't be friends if you hate it (just kidding, sort of). I'm always up for meeting new friends! c:

Also, I've had a copy of The Bell Jar for forever and I'm excited to read it!
