Classics for Beginners discussion
Introductions

I am a recent convert to Penguin Classics.. my first book I am reading is Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice.. their Drop Caps special edition.."
Marc, I've always wondered what a man would think of Pride and Prejudice, since it is so female-centric, so I would love to hear what you think of it. I love Penguin Classics, too, have several of those little orange books on my (real life) shelves! Are you new to classics in general? Classics and literary fiction are my favourite genres, so if you would like to chat about them, feel free to send me a PM or friend request.

Idan, The Hobbit is a great place to start, I am a huge Tolkien fan, especially of The Lord of the Rings, have you read that yet?

Me too! I enjoyed reading both
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. I think J.R.R. Tolkien was very detailed and original in imagining the entire Middle-Earth universe and even until now very few authors can match him in world building. :)

Welcome Beth!

Thank you! :)

Hi. I'm Darlene from Nevada, USA. I plan to read at least one classic per month as I read in alphabetical order the books in my personal library over the next 24 months. I'm already 2 months in and started on the Cs for March. Looking forward to reading your discussions of books I've previously read and enjoying the dialogue.

My name is Suzan, I'm 22 years old and I'm from the Netherlands. I am a student of English Language and Culture, hopefully graduating this year (currently writing my dissertation which is killing me). Also hoping to be doing a Master's degree in English next. Needless to say, I love reading, and recently I've really been into classics, but honestly, I'd read anything (except for most YA fantasy - I've recently discovered that I've outgrown that genre).

Would love to discover more books through this group.. Happy reading!!
Hey all, name's Rabindranauth. Nice to meet you all! I'm an eclectic reader, I rarely stick to one genre. I bounce all over the place, everything from fantasy to thrillers to classics. Looking forward to discussing books!

Welcome, Sandy. I haven't heard of any special edition. I'm reading my old book from college.

Welcome, Sandy. I haven't heard of any special edition. I'm reading my old book from college.

I'm Lisa and I'm 22 and from Belgium.
Currently I've read around a dozen classics and have loads more I want to get through. Seems like a lot of people have chosen Jane Eyre to be their favourite classic, and I must say I'm one of them, but it has to share it's place with Agnes Grey !

I am Victoria from Melbourne Australia :) My favourite classics are Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and Shakespeare's Macbeth. I also like two modern classics which are 1984 by Orwell and The Waves by Virginia Woolf!
So excited to discuss and make friends :)

I'm Georgina and I love to read any classic with beautiful writing and themes that make you think/have a philosophy. I think this is why I love Tender is the night by Fitzgerald so much. My other favourite classics are The Great Gatsby ,Oliver Twist and Les Miserables; That's always a cool one to say you've read!

Also, I've had a copy of The Bell Jar for forever and I'm excited to read it!

Hi Charlotte!! It's nice to meet you. My favorite books by Nabokov are Lolita

Your welcome! I hope you like some of them and please feel free to message me and tell me what you think of Lolita!

I read anything that comes my way. This includes a number of classics, too. Boring and outdated? I think not! :D
Looking forward to reading more and meeting people.
