Classics for Beginners discussion
Introductions

I'm from Wiltshire in UK and somewhat a newbie to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.
I've not been reading too long, (that sounds weird. I can read but not books.) but recently have been inspired by a few books and have by my standards started reading quite a lot. I have saved up a few books that I have always wanted to read, which I am glad to see that a few are in the list of books that you would class as classics.
I'm looking for some further inspiration as to add to the books and genres that I am currently reading.
I'm currently reading Lolita, A Picture of Dorian Grey and 1984.

Hi Darran, welcome to the group! Feel free to look around, we are currently nominating books for the August group read, if there's a book you would like to read with the group, you can still cast your nomination until tomorrow. After that the poll will be open for voting. And there's a next opportunity for nominations next month :-) Also, if you would like to find co-readers for a book you can present it as a possible buddy read. Also we currently read two books: The Woman in White and Tropic of Cancer. You're welcome to join those two ongoing discussions.
Happy reading!

Welcome, Loretta, great to have you with us! We're currently voting which books to read for our October group read and our tri-monthly read starting in October, so feel free to join the polls. Also, look around for more inspiration, buddy reads or older group reads. And if you have any questions, just ask. Happy reading!

Welcome Michelle. We are currently reading The Stranger by Albert Camus. It is short and easy to read, which might make it an enjoyable way to resume your interest in the classics.

My goal is to finish all of Jane Austen books (as I have only read two) and I want to finish Anne Brontë book (as I have read her sister's books and they were awesome)!
This year my goal is to read minimum 15 classic books. :)

Thanks for joining us. I am reading several French Canadian authors. I loved The Tin Flute by Gabrielle Roy.

The group will have a time to nominate books for an upcoming month. After about 10 days, all the books nominated are voted on in a poll. The winner is the book that gets the most votes. If the winning book has over 500 pages, it will be read over a two month period. Beginning on March 1, those interested will be reading The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo. We will have discussion threads for different sections of the book, so the readers can make comments as they read. If you want to see how it is done, you can look at the threads set up for the current book, An American Tragedy. I will link you to the first discussion page: /topic/show/...

Hi Arlene! Glad to be here

I love to read motivational, historical and classical books. I was just wandering through the site and thought leaving a comment here.
Good day everyone! :)

Welcome, Patricia!
Many people get started reading classics after reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. That was the case with me. Then I read Barchester Towers by Anthony Trollope was hooked.

We read some shorter ones during the last months, which you might like. For example in February we read The Metamorphosis and some time before that The Little Prince.
One of my personal all time favourites and, I think, quite easy to read ones is To kill a Mockingbird. It was first published in 1960, so the language isn't old-fashioned. It's narrated from the point of view of a girl, which makes it even easier to read and the story is fascinating.
