Bold Strokes Books LGBT Palm Springs Festival

The annual BSB Palm Springs bash is fast approaching. Held in the beautiful desert resort of Palm Springs, California, the event is a four-day extravaganza of author readings, Q&As, signings, discussions, casual get-togethers, and general shenanigans! It all kicks off on February 28th, and I’ll be going along to read from Desolation Point, frighten the hell out of folk by wearing shorts, and confound them by speaking in an impenetrable northern-English accent. Can’t bloody wait :-)

Loads more de...

Wrestling with the Unknown Unknowns

My favourite comment left in the margins during the editing of my upcoming novel, Desolation Point, was a slightly exasperated: “I know we’re in Sarah’s POV and she thinks British, but don’t you people ever wear pants? To which there could only be one answer: “Yes, all the time. Right under our trousers.

Ah, the joys of writing a novel with a bilingual point of view

Sarah, as you might have guessed, is the Brit in the story. She has a “rucksack not a “backpack, craves Cadbury’s chocolate,...

New Blog for UK Lesfic

A week or so ago, indie author and I were chatting about this and that UK authors, UK meet ups for UK authors, the sadly missed York Lesbian Arts Festival and somehow (I’m currently laying the blame on afolieàdeux,) came up with the idea of creating a blog where people can keep track of the authors writing lesbian fiction over here in the UK (and Ireland!)

We went and did it as well. The blog is now alive and kicking and looking rather fine to boot. If anyon...

Poetic Licence (Or: the point at which you have to Make Stuff Up)

It takes me a while to write a story. Some days, it takes me a while to do anything—wake up, drag my lazy arse out of bed, crack my back into something resembling the shape it should be—but I’m a notoriously slow writer. Part of this is a consequence of my day job; it’s hard to be coherent when I’m flicking from night shifts to day shifts and back again. But a large part of it is down to my innate fear of getting things wrong, which leads me to research, more research and then an addi...

The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

The lovely Indie writer (Pennance, After Mrs Robinson) has tagged me for the 26th week of The Next Big Thing Blog Hop. The idea is to hop from blog to blog to discover exciting books we might not have heard about or that are still works in progress. Each author will answer the same ten questions, then list authors who will answer the questions on their blogs next Wednesday.

What is the working title of your book?
Well, what was a working title is now an official title: Desolation P...

Mountain Musings

I’m sitting writing this blog on a sun-drenched chalet balcony in Switzerland. We’ve been here for the past week, deep in the Bernese Oberland and surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountains in Europe. There’s not a cloud in the sky today, but yesterday thick mist covered the valley and fresh snow fell on the peaks. Being hardy, determined types, we went out walking regardless. As we hiked through a forest where visibility had been reduced to a matter of feet, I was reminded exactly...

Oh oh oh, an interview!

And it’s an interview where you can actually hear me talk and everything :-)

The lovely ladies over at had a chat with me last night and the podcast is already up for download or just listening along to, at this . We spoke quite a bit about Snowbound, fan fic, Desolation Point, whether I would lose “Butch Points for crying over a bee sting, and why I continue to write terrible weather into my stories when it seems to influence what our actual weather will be like. It was a...

Second novel news

I found out this week that Bold Strokes Books have picked up my second novel for publication sometime in Spring, 2013 :-)

Tentatively titled Desolation Point (hopefully it’ll stay as that, the title’s grown on me!) the novel is set in the USA this time around and features two women Alex and Sarah getting into a whole load of trouble in the North Cascades. With a British/American pairing, bad guys running rampant, a storm closing in, and plenty of Kendal Mint Cake, this one was a hell of a lo...
