Paul Hollis | 303 comments yea, this is a great group. I like the vibe here and the books reccomended have been varied and interesting.

message 52: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) | 1684 comments Yes, we're all unstable. And if we get off topic for awhile, so what of it. We always come back around to the topic at hand.

Dustin I been trying to catch up with my other groups, that's why i haven't joined yet. I haven't been on the other DK's group either, thought I'd just follow you. If that's OK? Damn I just got started & I got to go.

message 53: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Thanks for the compliment, Paul. Lots of special people here make this a good group.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 143 comments I put Koontz in a class of his own - only some of his books can be classified as Horror. I need this group to cover a wide-range of authors. I have joined a lot of groups because some have a specific interest and others cover a broad spectrum, but I know joining too many groups gets pointless. I've only been on GR about 6 months & I have added and ditched several lousy groups but there are some I plan to stay in long-term. Anyway I do like this group and I need to look around some more so I'll go do that :-)

message 55: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I've joined and left many, too. Some aren't too active and others are just a repeat of HA and other groups I'm in. Some are way too big, too. I don't like those too much.

I agree, but I'm glad there are so many groups on GR so I can find just the right ones :-) There are some really lame ones out there though. I think this one is pretty big - one of the largest groups I'm in actually.

message 57: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments The lamest ones IMO are all those role playing groups. And the lame "I hate" groups or fans of Taco Bell or some other restaurant. But maybe I'm just a big grouch.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 143 comments I just checked the groups I've joined - I guess I have 4 groups that are actually bigger that AF.

message 59: by Tressa (last edited Dec 31, 2009 03:01PM) (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I was in a women's group at one time but it was just too big and I didn't enjoy it. I did get to "talk" to Andrew Davidson, author of the fantastic The Gargoyle in his thread.

message 60: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments yeah I'm in 3 groups and think that's where I'll stay.
the other 2 are TheNextBestBookClub which is huge and reads general fiction which is good for me to broaden my horizons and get out of my usual genres. the other is the Science Fiction/Fantasy club. They have good suggestions but rarely post

message 61: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I have a general fiction group, too. It's called Novel Ideas and it's 99.9% women and it's by invitation only.

I wouldn't have one thing to say in a science fiction/fantasy group.

Again, I find myself agreeing with you :-)

message 63: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments Yeah, TNBBC is like 90% women as well. I recently returned to reading scifi after not reading for 20 years. Mostly read thrillers/horror.

message 64: by William (new)

William (acknud) | 0 comments Paul wrote: "Yeah, TNBBC is like 90% women as well. I recently returned to reading scifi after not reading for 20 years. Mostly read thrillers/horror."

Men can't and don't read!

message 65: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I bet more women read than men. Maybe real men don't read. Reminds me of that stupid book in the eighties: Real Men Don't Eat Quiche.

William (acknud) | 0 comments Tressa wrote: " Reminds me of that stupid book in the eighties: Real Men Don't Eat Quiche."

Or:

Real Ponies Don't Go Oink!

message 67: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I don't even know what that means.

message 68: by William (new)

William (acknud) | 0 comments Tressa wrote: "I don't even know what that means."

It was an intoxicated response.

message 69: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Let me guess. Beer?

message 70: by Jason (new)

Jason | 176 comments Tressa wrote: "Let me guess. Beer?"

One can only hope ;)

message 71: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments LOL...Real men don't read love it!!

message 72: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I wish I had a buzz. I know, Jason. With William you just never know.

message 73: by Paul (new)

Paul | 122 comments Suppose I can't be a real man then, I read every day.

sigh

Mind, I tend to read with a beer in hand... Perhaps there's hope for me yet?

message 74: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I suppose if you hold a book in one hand and a beer in the other, then you're a real man. Or hold a book and push a lawnmower. Or hold a book while taking out a bag of trash. Wait a minute. That one would never happen.

message 75: by Paul (new)

Paul | 122 comments Hehehe!

message 76: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments You know it's true! Why are bags of trash invisible to men?

message 77: by Paul (new)

Paul | 122 comments What bags?

message 78: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments The stinking ones by the back door.

message 79: by Paul (new)

Paul | 122 comments I wondered where that smell was coming from...

Hmmm, bags of trash, eh? That's a new concept for me. I'll have to work on that.

Are they perhaps like these magic eye pictures? Can you only see them from a certain angle, or if you relax your eyes just so?

message 80: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments It's a worldwide phenomena, Phil. We women just can't get to the root of the problem. All we can do is yell about it.

message 81: by Paul (new)

Paul | 122 comments Who's Phil?

You talkin' to me? Huh :)

message 82: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Why do I keep getting the men here mixed up?

message 83: by Paul (new)

Paul | 122 comments Too much multi-tasking, Tressa. That's all I can think of. After all, I'm sure you were taking out the trash at the time...

message 84: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Somebody's got to.

message 85: by Paul (new)

Paul Hollis | 303 comments Happy New Year everbody!!
It's gonna be a lazy day spending time at home with my cats who are recovering from the fireworks last night!

message 86: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Lazy day here, too.

message 87: by Paul (new)

Paul | 122 comments Yes, I haven't really done all that much today. Back to the full swing of work on Monday.

Doh!

message 88: by William (new)

William (acknud) | 0 comments Tressa wrote: "The stinking ones by the back door."

Why is it that women can take the bags out of the container, sit them by the back door but can never bring themselves to open the back door and set them outside?

message 89: by William (new)

William (acknud) | 0 comments Tressa wrote: "Why do I keep getting the men here mixed up?"

Damn Tressa...How many men do you have in your life? Are you a Floozy?

message 90: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Why is it that women can take the bags out of the container, sit them by the back door but can never bring themselves to open the back door and set them outside?

Because we're so tired from doing EVERYTHING else in the house and we don't want to take over the ONE job you have inside the house.

William, only have one man in my life. I swear. All I have time for.

message 91: by Chris (new)

Chris (flahorrorwriter) | 2844 comments Welcome, Dustin...we ARE better than the other lame-ass GR Horror Group (just kidding!!!) because Tressa and I make it so...well, a few others help too! ;)

message 92: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) | 251 comments I'm pretty sure it's "one hand in the undershorts and the other holding the remote" for the ultimate male pose. :)

message 93: by Paul (new)

Paul | 122 comments I really must stop this damn webcam from broadcasting all the time...

Sorry- what was that?

message 94: by Chris (new)

Chris (flahorrorwriter) | 2844 comments Boy, has this place REALLY gone downhill in my absence....sheesh....disgusting, TRULY disgusting! :P

This is the most horror active, I'm part of another Horror group and although they are a great bunch of people (those that are active), they mainly talk about and exchange music.

message 96: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) | 1684 comments I LOVE this group!! Yes we're all unstable!!!!

Women do half the job for you men, damn do we have to do it all? We tie up the trash the least you can do is take it out side.

Women RULE, men DROOL!!!!

message 97: by William (new)

William (acknud) | 0 comments Lori wrote: " Women RULE, men DROOL!!!! "

We drool over women!

message 98: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) | 1684 comments Well father!! Now do drool over them or OVER them?

Speak for yourself, I was raised differently, lazy men who don't do their part around the house need not be grouped with those that actually help with the duties of the family. Besides, if they don't do that much isn't that because you guys are bad trainers?

message 100: by Lori (new)

Lori (barfield) | 1684 comments No we are not bad trainers, you guys are bad listeners. And I was trying to side with the other women, I don't have that problem. My honey fixed breakfast, did the dishes, and took out the trash today. Thank you very much.

And don't you dare take any of this personally Jerrod. :)
