Hi everyone! Thanks for the warm welcome :)

I've been going over the rules and goals and I think I'm caught up, but I'm not sure where to start.

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Hi, Wren!

You'll want to start with creating a shelf for this game and linking it in here - you'll put all of the books you read on there so the captains can use it to verify the books you finish. I sent you a friend request so I can see your shelf since your profile is set to private. :)

Our current goals are:

Read a book that starts with the letter K - Brittney
Read a book with a giraffe - Teresa
Read a book with a turtle - Emily or Annika or Kate

Read a book where the page numbers add to 4 (i.e. 345 pages = 3+4+5 = 12) - Silje
Read a book with a horse on the cover
Read a book where the same consonant appears in the title at least 8 times - Kate

All goals are updated in post 5 of this thread since they can get lost in the chatter, so you can check there any time for the latest goals we need to finish!

The only one we don't have someone working on right now is the horse on the cover one since it just came up a couple hours ago. But basically we fill in goals as quickly as possible so if you finish something else that works first we'll use it.

All books count either way - if they don't fit a goal they will still add to attack points, so whenever you finish a book just post in here and let us know so we can get it added.

I'm checking with the mods to see if you just start adding books now that you've joined, or if you're able to use other books you've read since the game or this round started. I will let you know on that. :)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Hey all! has been posted! I'll add a link for this in post #5 with our goals.

message 554: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Denise! That's so helpful, I was afraid of throwing off the team by just jumping in. The only thing I don't know how to do is linking my self.

message 555: by [deleted user] (new)

I can start working a book with a horse on the cover.

message 556: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments I got it! You don't have a million shelves so it was easy to find, LOL. (For future reference if you want to link something, use <*a href="http://www.goodreads.com">my link text<*/a> but take the * out, your URL goes in place of the http://www.goodreads.com and then put whatever description you want instead of "My link text". You can find this if you click on the "Some html is ok" link right above the comment box. If you're using the app instead of a computer, don't worry about linking at all as it's a huge pain. :))

Mods said that you can use any books finished during this round, which started August 16th (or evening of August 15th depending on your time zone). That looks like The Burning Sky, Spirit Bound, Last Sacrifice, Imaginary Girls, and The Selection, I think? So you'll want to add those to your gladiator shelf when you have a chance, and I'll get them on the spreadsheet tonight as well. Anything finished during the round can be used for goals during that round so we'll probably fit at least a few of them in somewhere before the countdown ends.

At this point the book finished date is what counts, so if you start a book now and don't finish it before the end of the round, it will count for the next one. Goals roll over as well, so whatever we don't get through will still be there for round 3.

Also, I'm SO glad you have a horse on a cover, lol! I was hoping someone would because I definitely do NOT. ;)

message 557: by Brittney (new)

Brittney | 655 comments Great work on the spreadsheet Denise!!!

message 558: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1599 comments Finished The boy with a painful tattoo. Giraffes at the Zoo @ 99%

message 559: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Thanks, Brittney! Still have to get all of the old books on there tomorrow but it should be easy to keep up to date after that!

Teresa, awesome!!! Another goal down! Will post a new one soon...

message 560: by Denise (last edited Aug 26, 2015 09:16PM) (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Next goal: Read a book with a zombie

I'm not sure if Archangel's Kiss works for this - they aren't CALLED zombies but there are dead people who are brought back to life, and they're basically zombies and eat human flesh, etc. If we don't have another one that would work for this one I can ask the mods if mine would work!

message 561: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I think you should ask the mods about thar one. I'm out on zombies. Do have a couple with horses on cover though if we need it. :)

message 562: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Okay, I'll ask them. May as well use a finished book if possible. ;)

message 563: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Yes we still have a lot of books not used for goals that soon will be scrapped so it's better to use them when we can.

message 564: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Definitely! We've managed to use quite a few today (Yay!) but with Wren's books we're going to have well over 30 books not used yet. Let's see how many we can use in the last few days of the round! ;)

message 565: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Let's hope we get some good goals to cover quickly then :)

message 566: by Emily (new)

Emily Kelsall (emilythebooknerd) | 1388 comments I finished Magic Breaks. Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels, #7) by Ilona Andrews 302 pgs.
For the turtle goal:
“The colossal tortoise stared at me with dinner-plate-sized irises and opened its gargantuan mouth."
Unfortunately, I don't know what page it's on because I'm reading an iBooks copy that doesn't have real page numbers, and I couldn't get google books to tell me the page, sorry! (By my calculations, it should be about page 90 if you have to put a page number.)

message 567: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Yay, Emily! :D

I put in 90 as an approximate page number, if we're questioned I'll just let them know you read an iBooks copy and don't have an exact one. Should be fine.

Read a book where a character's first name starts with the letter B

message 568: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments 90 sounds about right, it's in that area at least :)

message 569: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Is that the one you were going to use for that goal? Lol I kind of wondered since you brought up tortoise earlier and we're doing the BR this week. :P

Also, no B names in the Team Commodus, checking Gabrielle now. I can only see what's listed on the book page or in the blurb though so if there's a more minor character let us know. :)

message 570: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Nevermind, found one! ;)

message 571: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Just found one too :)

message 572: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments *grumbles* Waiting for the refresh is killing me. I want to watch my Torchwood episode in the other room! LOL.

message 573: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Read a book with the word tumble in the text

message 574: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments *goes off to start the computer*

message 575: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1599 comments Astounding has Tumbled, will that count?

message 576: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1599 comments Brokenhearted has tumble as well

message 577: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Yeah it would! The Burning Sky has it as well, so I think I'm going to use that one so we get at least one of Wren's books in for a goal this round. :)

message 578: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1599 comments :)

message 579: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1599 comments Night all!

message 580: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Night Teresa :)

message 581: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Well we know we have lots of options if it comes up again!

Night Teresa!

message 582: by Annika (last edited Aug 26, 2015 10:42PM) (new)

Annika | 1744 comments And now we wait again.. =P

message 583: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Read a book with an animal on the cover

I feel like we should have one for this SOMEWHERE haha. Even if it's just a bird or something...

message 584: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I can help checking the Gabrielle sheet :)

message 585: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments No need, Trophy Hunt works! Second one I clicked on, yay. LOL.

message 586: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments Wings has a butterfly on the cover

message 587: by Denise (last edited Aug 26, 2015 10:51PM) (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Read a book that is book 2 in a series

Archangel's Kiss would work but I'm still waiting to hear on zombie for that one...

EDIT: Duh, The Elite. I put that on the sheet like 10 minutes ago. You'd think I would remember. :P

message 588: by Annika (new)

Annika | 1744 comments As they say: The memory is good, but shortlived... ;)

message 589: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments My memory is awful, lol. ;)

Read a book with a green cover

message 590: by Denise (new)

Denise (kitsune816) | 1647 comments Aaah I'm on the laptop and these tabs are soo slow in opening. I don't think there are any really green books, though I'm not sure if Catch My Breath may count? I think it's the greenest we currently have. Maybe post in the main question thread asking if it can be used? I need to get going for the night and you'd probably get an answer well before I'm able to get back online in the morning. :)

message 591: by Silje (new)

Silje (sikna) | 1402 comments Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3) by Sarah J. Maas works if we can't use any of the books we already have, but I'm barerly halfway through it.

message 592: by Annika (last edited Aug 27, 2015 01:33AM) (new)

Annika | 1744 comments I finished Magic Breaks; 357 pages.
Doesn't work for any open goals but it will be good for; turtle, lion, "an arm and a leg", "piece f cake", I author, various shifters, white/lion/weapon on cover - and probably a few more :)

message 593: by Nidhi (last edited Aug 27, 2015 03:42AM) (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments Welcome Wren!

The new tab would really help. Thanks Silje and Denise! Your work is commendable on updating goals and spreadsheets simultaneously.

I started reading Ruby Red (Precious Stone Trilogy, #1) by Kerstin Gier by Kerstin Gier today morning. For my time travel goal in other challenge.

Also the MC sees and talks to ghosts and has name Gwyneth.

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments My book Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor had a character named Brimstone. The second round is near completion now... Wow! so many books are unused. I hope we get some nice goals!

Oh I see you already used it for the same goal. why I am so slow...? *sigh*

message 595: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments Also when I am sleeping everyone is active, and when I am active everyone is sleeping! I hate time difference! :/

message 596: by Brittney (new)

Brittney | 655 comments Nidhi wrote: "Also when I am sleeping everyone is active, and when I am active everyone is sleeping! I hate time difference! :/"

Yeah that can be a bummer!!

message 597: by Emily (new)

Emily Finished:

Tricks
Tricks (Tricks, #1) by Ellen Hopkins
Author: Ellen Hopkins
Pages: 627 *unfortunately it's a novel in verse and only has a word count of 77,642, so still only 0.5 attack points.
Goal: None.

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments Boston Kate wrote: "Finished:

Oh, that's not fair Kate! So many pages and to still be considered below 500 sucks!

message 599: by Emily (new)

Emily Yeah. I had to checked with the mods when I first started reading it, since they said no poetry. I've got a few more of her books that I'm going to read, and they're all the same situation. Oh well. It would be nice to get the extra points, but I do understand why they go by word count since I can read a 500+ page verse novel a lot faster than a 500+ page prose novel.

message 600: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Bhatt | 151 comments agreed!
