Steph (angel4492) | 32369 comments Hiya, Team Caps! Thanks for volunteering to guide your team through a round of BookShelf Bingo!

Your job, should you choose to accept it, will require a few things:
1 ~ Be our go-to person should we have any questions about your team
2 ~ Organize your teammate's weekly reads for each shelf/category so that the BSB Ninjas can quickly and easily verify and approve your stamp request(s)
2a ~ Create a master list in a post (preferably on the first page of your team's thread) and update it weekly or as often as necessary
2b ~ Post your team's stats on the Captain's Log prior to requesting a stamp
3 ~ Encourage and motivate your team (you may also ask to borrow Judithe's whip whenever necessary)
4 ~ Post regularly to ensure your team is communicating and on track each week
4a ~ Send them a PM and friendly poke if they haven't posted at least once a week, noted their book choice, and/or appear to have dropped out of webspace
5 ~ Send us a PM (Steph or Sandra) should you need us for any reason throughout the game

Just wanted to confirm: Sarah, is Brutal Prince in any of the required shelves? I understand the book has to be in one of the shelf and food on cover.. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Lis | 4015 comments Not gonna lie this is kind of a tough one. Been scrolling through lots of books Does a woman with blood and puncture marks on her neck with a vampire lurking over her shoulder count as food? Lol.

message 20: by Vi (new)

Vi | 933 comments Yeah, I think the paranormal mystery will have them. Otherwise, it's mostly scrolling through lots and lots of books. And they mostly won't have cupcakes or fruits on their cover.

For free space, I'll be reading Building From Ashes (Elemental World #1) by Elizabeth Hunter - it's on SOS bookshelf.

message 21: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25772 comments I looked at the first 10 book page lists and its clear its a contemporary mafia forced marriage trope. Not even a hint of pnr or uf.

So sorry Sarah, that book doesn't qualify.

All books read for the challenge must come from the 5 shelves listed and have the category on the cover also.

 R24 Shelves
(1) Urban fantasy
(2) Paranormal Romance
(3) Sci-Fi Romance
(4) Paranormal Mystery
(5) Supernatural Thriller

The list & links can be found on the Shelf Announcements thread, links include GR, SOS Bookshelves & Amazon.

If a book is on amazon & not on GR, post it in the discussion thread & I'll add it to the database.

Lis | 4015 comments So I discovered that GR has shelves for books with food on the cover. Same for apples, cupcakes, pizza etc. I scrolled down looking for series that sounded PNR UF-ish. Then checked to see if it had the right genre listed.

This might help: /list/show/5...

Garden Spells (Waverley Family, #1) by Sarah Addison Allen

Title/Author:
Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen
Series: Waverley Family #1
Date Read: 10/21/2023
Shelf: Shelf #1: Nat'l Food Day - with apple on cover
How it fits: Apples on the cover AND shelved 50 times on the ŷ “urban-fantasy shelf
Pages: 304
Rating: ★★★★

Review: Really enjoyed this first book in this series. It centers on a feisty apple tree in a magical garden and house owned for generations by the Waverley family. Older sister, Claire has stayed in Bascom NC, in the family home using her mystical plants and talents to make dishes and treats for her catering business. Her long lost sister Sydney returns with her daughter Bay, running from Bay's abusive father to the home she ran away from many years earlier. The good: small town vibe with deep history of families and characters. Loved cousin Evanelle who distributes random items to people because she had a "feeling" that it will be needed in the near future. The town folk just think the Waverley women are eccentric and don't always treat them well. It takes the sisters a while to warm up to each other, and allow others into their lives because they are so guarded. The not so good: didn't care for Sydney's ex boyfriend from high school, very shallow and needed to get over himself. His mother in law was a piece of work. I listened to this in audio and pleasantly surprised that it was narrated by one of my favs, Susan Erickson (from JD Robb, In Death series). Its a very short series, but will definitely read the next book.

Doesn’t it look like a stack of pancakes? The artwork is like a simplified print. Or is it something completely different than what I’m thinking?? Lol

The Return by Rachel Harrison

Title/Author: The Return by Rachel Harrison
Date Read: 10.22.23
Shelf: Free Space
Shelf Location: SOS Bookshelf
Pages: 296
Rating: ★★★☆
Review:

I really liked Such Sharp Teeth by Rachel Harrison. I think my expectations were a little too high for this book. There were some creepy/unsettling moments, but mostly it was kind of boring. I wasn't that invested in the characters, and two out of the four friends mostly blended together to me. However, it was a quick read, and while it wasn't the best I didn't hate reading it.
