Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments Hello Everyone!

I’m Judith, your captain for the next 3 months on an apparent galactic food adventure. I’m curious to see where this theme goes, I’m sure the mods have stuff up their sleeves.

Anyone new to UNO this year? This game is one of my favorites and is fairly straightforward. But if you’ve never played, things can get confusing. Please ask any questions you may have

Tomorrow I’ll set up posts with links to rules, tracking, cards, etc.

Chava | 528 comments Hey everyone!!!

I am so excited for this challenge. I have done UNO a few years now and absolutely love it.
I live in Melbourne, Australia, so I'll likely be asleep when most of you post. I'll be 2 weeks in London, UK for a family wedding from 12-26 of Feb and might not be able to post as often (and likely only from my phone).

message 12: by Amber M. (new)

Amber M. McCarter (mommyultd) | 32 comments Greetings!

Looking forward to this. I haven't played this particular challenge before, but have no doubt it will be a blast. I sort of took some time off from team challenges, and missed it sooo much. Very eager to get back into community reading!

Thanks for getting things organized, Judith :)

Robynne Lozier Can I jump the gun and claim a colour cover?

Throne of Jade by Naomi Novik for the 9 green in the 14th hand? Mostly green cover. N for author name

Thanks.

message 15: by Chava (last edited Jan 21, 2020 09:29PM) (new)

Chava | 528 comments oh can we fill out already? I have 2 that I would like to claim :)
I've requested access. If I can't, that's fine too btw

message 16: by Robynne (new)

Robynne Lozier Just claim the colour cover you can in this thread - the captains will fill in the spread sheets.

Remember the numbers & letters also have to be match as well. - not just any colour cover.

1 blue - the blue has to have a title or author name starting with O

5 green - the green cover has to start with F

7 red - the red cover has to start with V

2 blue - blue has to start with T

1 yellow - yellow has to start with O

3 red - red has to start with H

And I claim the 9 green.

Robynne Lozier I have Ink & Bone (Rachel Caine) for 1 (Book 1 in series) in Hand 1 and Zero Hour (Clive Cussler) for 0 in Hand 2. Both will be rereads but its been ages since I last read them.

message 19: by Chava (new)

Chava | 528 comments I have the following

0 in hand 6: The Inn (stand-alone)

Skip in hand 1: Lost by James Patterson (author starting with P)

4 in hand 2 or 6 in hand 11: You Don't Know Me by Sara Foster (author's name starts with S and F)

message 20: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments I'm excited this team has people so ready to start the game! It's much more fun that way.

I have populated my top posts with a bunch of information and links for reference if people need them. I'll be updating that as needed or in the case of the card completion, almost daily.

How I have done things in the past that seems to work well is only have people 'assigned' to the color and WD4 cards and then Nanci and I place the others. We tend to fill some of the harder to find cards first and leave the easier ones (like 1's, 0's, 2's) towards then end of the month in case we end up in a scramble.

Also, it is not uncommon for books to get moved around throughout the month as books get read that work for fewer cards. Knowing all the cards a given book works for is helpful to allow Nanci and I to do that.

I have a tracking sheet set up: . The link to this is also in my important link top post so you can easily find and don't have to hunt for this post.

You can add books you are planning to read now (and just fill in the date read once you finish the book), add them once they are read, or if you aren't comfortable with using the spreadsheet you can simply post in this thread when you are finished the book and Nanci and I will take care of the rest.

If you put everything in the spreadsheet yourself, we don't need a completion post. I find it to be a duplicative effort for people to do both the spreadsheet and a completion post. And want things to be as easy as possible (and therefore fun!) for people.

But I also know not everyone either likes spreadsheets or they can have issues accessing the spreadsheet (especially if only on their phone). So do what works for you and Nanci and I will make sure you books get logged.

Chava, I went ahead and put these on the tracking sheet so people can see some examples of how to fill out the information. Your books might work for other cards as well, I only used the info in the post.

Thanks for providing some examples for me ;)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Hello everyone! I'm Melanie and I'm looking forward to the challenge starting. Out of all of the team challenges I've been in, UNO is definitely one of my favorites.

After several back to back challenges I took a break from reading mostly in December and January, so I'm excited to get back in the swing of things.

Here is my UNO shelf.

Remember that things like book setting, character names, series numbers, or number in title also work. There are a lot of options and most books end up working for at least a couple cards.

Both spreadsheets (our official spreadsheet and the tracking) have a list of what works for each card as a reference.

When I try to open the tracking sheet, it says I need to request access. Is that the way it's supposed to be setup? If it is, I'll submit the request but I wanted to check first.

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Wow, just looked at our cards and we definitely got hit with lots of color covers between the cards and WD4s. I have books that work for most of the cards we have (the only one I don't have is 5 Green), so I'll let others claim what that want and go from there.

My options, let me know if you think any aren't enough of the color.

1 Blue
Death Below Stairs (Kat Holloway Mysteries, #1) by Jennifer Ashley For Love of the Duke (The Heart of a Duke, #1) by Christi Caldwell The Earl Next Door (First Comes Love, #1) by Amelia Grey Truly Devious (Truly Devious #1) by Maureen Johnson Forever Your Earl (The Wicked Quills of London, #1) by Eva Leigh Hold Your Breath (Search and Rescue, #1) by Katie Ruggle Hidden (Deep Ops, #1) by Rebecca Zanetti Cover Your Eyes (Morgans of Nashville, #1) by Mary Burton Playing House (Uptown, #1) by Ruby Lang

7 Red
The Lady's Guard (Sinful Brides, #3) by Christi Caldwell Vicious (Villains, #1) by V.E. Schwab Silver Silence (Psy-Changeling Trinity, #1; Psy-Changeling, #16) by Nalini Singh

2 Blue
The Earl Next Door (First Comes Love, #1) by Amelia Grey Truly Devious (Truly Devious #1) by Maureen Johnson The Trouble with Christmas (Credence, Colorado #2) by Amy Andrews The Unlikely Lady (Playful Brides, #3) by Valerie Bowman The Duke Buys a Bride (The Rogue Files, #3) by Sophie Jordan Brazen Virtue (D.C. Detectives, #2) by Nora Roberts The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager The Hollow of Fear (Lady Sherlock, #3) by Sherry Thomas The Angels' Share (The Bourbon Kings, #2) by J.R. Ward Killer Choice by Tom Hunt The Disappearing by Lori Roy The Last Woman in the Forest by Diane Les Becquets The Night Before by Wendy Walker A Scandal By Any Other Name (A Tale of Two Sisters, #2) by Kimberly Bell

1 Yellow
50 Ways to Ruin a Rake (Rakes and Rogues, #1) by Jade Lee Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder (Hannah Swensen, #1) by Joanne Fluke

3 Red
The Lady's Guard (Sinful Brides, #3) by Christi Caldwell Hero in the Highlands (No Ordinary Hero, #1) by Suzanne Enoch Ravishing in Red (The Rarest Blooms, #1) by Madeline Hunter Hard Way (Jon Reznick, #4) by J.B. Turner The Beast of Beswick (Everleigh Sisters, #1) by Amalie Howard

message 30: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments I think any of those are fine color-wise.

But it would be great if you read either The Lady's Guard or Vicious for 7 Red.

I've read both and there is also a Reverse and a Draw 2 card in the Hand 6 with 7 Red. So if you read one of those, we can use it for all three cards.

message 31: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments Also, I feel like every green cover book I have works for everything BUT card 5.

LOL

Ok, I'll pick up The Lady's Guard for the 7 Red. I love it when books are easily found to fit those Draw 2 spots.

Haha, yep. My greens work for practically every other card but the one we need.

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments Worst case scenario, I re-read Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews. It's been a long time since I read that series. And, it's Ilona Andrews so it's always worth another go :)

message 35: by Melanie (last edited Jan 22, 2020 06:48AM) (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 296 comments Hmm, would you say Magic Bites is green enough?

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews

I've been wanting to reread it for a few years so I can finally read the rest of the series (only read the first 4 books). In person, the top 2/3 is tinted green which you can kind of see online, but I'm not sure it's enough as the cover doesn't really scream green to me.

message 36: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments There is a lot of brown going on there too. It doesn't say green to me either.

But, we do need 7 reverses and 9 5's so if you want to, I'd say read it (I've read the whole series). Also that series has a ton of characters so it's a great series for this game.

I did find Dial P For Poison (Movie Club Mysteries, #1) by Zara Keane on my nook which takes place in Ireland.

message 37: by Robynne (last edited Jan 22, 2020 07:40AM) (new)

Robynne Lozier I was thinking how about if we list the books we have that fit into one or more of the hands?

I have a book called Qualify by Vera Nazarian that would fit a 7 or a 9 card - and I really want to read it. It would also fit a 1 card since it is the first in a series.

Qualify (The Atlantis Grail, #1) by Vera Nazarian

Colour is mostly black for space with some blue and yellow - but not 50%.

YAAAY I figured out how to add a book!!

message 38: by Robynne (new)

Robynne Lozier Ok I get it now. I am filling in the tracking spreadsheet with all the books that I have that fill the requirements. I can do that!!

Then you guys (Captains) can choose which book we can do for each hand.

message 39: by Robynne (last edited Jan 22, 2020 08:10AM) (new)

Robynne Lozier I think I have a 1 blue - An absolutely remarkable thing by Hank green - the sequel comes out in July 2020 so this is the 1st in a series and it is mostly a blue cover!!

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing (An Absolutely Remarkable Thing, #1) by Hank Green

And I have not read it yet!!

Judith (brownie72011) | 1873 comments The Great Library Series is a really good series! I finished the last book a few months ago. Was satisfied with the conclusion. At first I was annoyed the series was extended to 5 books instead of 3, but I was happily wrong about there being more story to tell.
